You know what I’ve noticed is kind of adorable about the photos on the farm? How everyone else seems a bit camera shy and Dina is just straight up beaming in most of the photos lol :)

And Ellie seems to have a habit of wearing her photos out while Joel’s and Dina’s are nearly pristine (Seriously how did Dina keeps her and her sister’s photo so clean? Joel’s is at least 20 yo too :0)

I saw this concept art and read that it’s supposed to be Dina’s room—and I can’t remember if I read that these were all photos suspended in her room, or if I assumed they were photos—either way, coupled with the fact that she’s featured so prominently in a lot of the photos throughout the game, I have a head canon that Dina is obsessed with taking pictures—especially as a teenager. It’s how she copes with her losses—by celebrating the people and moments she has now, and making sure they’re preserved, that they can be talked about in the future.

It goes back to that fundamental difference between Ellie and Dina—Ellie thinks pretending people didn’t exist will make her feel better, while Dina wants to talk and share and continue letting people be a part of her life even after they’re gone.

So in my head canon teenage Dina is constantly going OKAY EVERYONE SMILE and Ellie always groans and says something like OMG AGAIN? And Dina’s like I SAID SMILE WILLIAMS.

@caitsyoi has it—they’re phones! Man, I could not figure that out but that’s super cool, too—I would have loved to see Dina be even more techy? I wonder what all the phones were supposed to be for though??? Music? Pictures? Angry Birds? I just imagine Dina being this like dealer who scavenges phones and trades them to Jackson teens, and then the kids are trading them amongst themselves like baseball cards according to music/game taste. Like “I’ll trade someone Dolly Parton for a little Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac? Anybody got a little Rhinannon???”

#i have a headcanon post floating around about this#but i think eugene was in the library for a reason#collecting old tech and just compiling parts of humanity for the future generations#and he has a whole fuck ton of blank cds cassettes as well as film and he was working on getting cameras working#because ellie said there are probably people making movies and he would want jackson to be able to preserve that history#like the first people who had cameras just filming everything they could because holy shit i can record this train!#but any way he gives a bunch of film to dina and fixes up her camera when he sees dinas photo of her and talia#and he makes sure she has a place to develop old film so she can have the memories she never allowed herself to have
