Work as usual, was hell. Though Taylor knew she couldn’t really complain. After all she got to work on cars all day, and make money, which fuelled her addictions, chicken nugget and otherwise, so she couldn’t complain. But, that didn’t mean that she was going to pass up a night out after a long day. And sure most people looked at night outs as something to do with friends but considering Taylor was more of the lone wolf type, friends were never really her style, especially when it came to going out. Most of the time she ended up leaving with a lady, and the last thing she needed was some friend getting in the way of her working her magic.
Scoping out a few places it didn’t take Taylor long to find a place, especially when said place was advertising that girls got in for free that night. Which meant high traffic of over eager dudes, but Taylor wasn’t too worried about them. Within the hour Taylor had talked up a few people, gotten a few drinks and had been spending her time with one girl in particular, and judging by the way the girl was practically gripping her bicep at every other word she said, Taylor knew she’d found her keeper for the night.
“You know, my apartment is just a few blocks away,”
Her gaze travelled from the eyes she definitely hadn’t been looking at all night, to the fingers that were currently playing with the bottom of her shirt, a slight smirk instantly settling over her lips. Sure, picking up girls in bars might be a cliche but hey it was a cliche for a reason and Taylor would never be opposed to hooking up with a girl from a bar, especially if said girl had incredible breasts, legs for days and was offering to bring her to her apartment, which usually meant she could get snack food out of it.
Though this time her gaze was taken away from her possible hook up for the night and to a group across the crowded bar. The typical rowdy assholes that Taylor tended to start bar fights with, though this time she noticed the assholes weren’t just being typical dudes, that there was a poor soul having to deal with them first hand.
“I..Yeah hang on babe,” taking the girl’s hands off of her Taylor stood up on her toes to glance over at the situation better. As her eyes settled on the girl near the bar she felt that slight twinge in her chest to go over there, blame her hero complex or whatever it was.
But without another word to her new companion Taylor made her way through the crowded bar, waiting a few feet away to actually try to listen in this time.
“Pretty little thing like you, I’m sure the three of us would be quite the treat”
Rolling her eyes Taylor had to admit, these dudes were the ones that gave actual gentlemen like herself bad reps. Glancing back at the situation she told herself not to over react, to just be chill. But the moment she had noticed one of the dudes grubby hands making a reach for her, Taylor’s feet were moving before her mind could catch up with the motion.
“Hey babe, sorry I took so long. You know what bartenders are like, they can talk up a storm….” Turning her gaze on the three men from her new spot next to the girl, Taylor narrowed her gaze. “Can I help you?”
“Who the fuck are you supposed to be?”
“Her girlfriend. So you know, better luck next time my man. She’s not interested in you,”
“Pfft, as if you’re her girlfriend. I think she can speak for herself and she sure as fuck did, didn’t you princess?”
Narrowing her gaze Taylor went from glaring at these assholes, to making sure she was the one thing between them and the girl at the bar.
“Look buddy, she already has a girlfriend. She clearly has no interest in being with you, so fuck off. Alright?”
Now, Taylor would be the first to admit that yeah, most times she was the one starting bar fights, after all they were fun who wouldn’t want to. But this time, surprisingly, it was all the other party.
So when one of the guy’s buddies made some off handed comment about fucking both of them, some drunken slurred comment was more like it the fist that connected with the side of her face hit her before she even had a chance to try and make out with the other idiot was trying to say.
Sure, she could have just walked away. But that wasn’t really her style. She was a brawler by nature, so even if completely outnumbered she didn’t hesitate before taking her own swing at this guy. Outnumbered or not, she wasn’t going to let these three creepy stooges lay a hand on this girl.
A black eye, busted lip, bruised knuckles, and probably some bruised ribs later Taylor chuckled a little once she was ‘escorted’ (though basically just shoved) out of the bar. The guys who’d ganged up on her being tossed on to the pavement before scampering off once the threat of the cops came out.
Rolling her eyes she straightened out her jacket, patting around the pockets. “Fuck, seriously….” just as she went to turn back to catch one of the security guards. “Any chance I can get back in to grab my smokes?…Yeah didn’t think so.”
Considering the sheer fact that Ellie had a diagnosed anxiety disorder it was a small wonder she could be around the amount of people that tended to crowd into the local bars on their busiest days; dark eyes shifted across the almost innumerable faces as she sighed lowly into the rim of the glass pressed to her lips. How had she let Evelina talk her into this? Speaking of— her eyes shifted again, searching for her best friend in the crowd— no sign of her was forthcoming and it took everything in her not to groan aloud. “For fuck’s sake, Eve,” She exhaled sharply, downing the rest of the whiskey in her glass before she gestured towards the bar tender and offered as polite a grin as she possibly could for another drink.
One more drink, she thought absently, one more drink and she would go home and curl up with Law and Order reruns until she passed out in bed. It wasn’t dissimilar to most of her nights and she felt a brief pang of regret that she wasn’t better at picking people up in these situations.
The loneliness was perpetual and well, for the first time in a long while, Ellie was tired of her own self-imposed isolation.
She’d kept mostly to herself throughout the night as it was, fielding the advances of the eager men and well, boys, frankly, who’d tried to garner her attention. Of course, that had led to more than a few bold propositions from men absolutely positive they could ‘turn her’ if she’d agree to a night in bed with them— she’d never openly thrown up on someone she wasn’t interested in but she’d wondered as the night went on whether tonight would break that streak.
Halfway through her last drink she watched three men crowd around her with broad grins on their faces; she met their smiles with a gentle expression in response, “H-hello, can I h-help you?”
The broadest looking one, she assumed he was the instigator of their little trio, smiled broadly and began, very badly ( in her estimation ) to hit on her. It took Ellie all of three seconds to choke back a laugh and hold up her hand to interrupt their advances even as the looks on their faces made her stomach churn deeply, “I’m g-gonna stop you th-there, love. I’m gay, and I’m t-tired. I’ll b-be finishing this and then I’m on my w-way, so. You’re not likely to get l-lucky here; not with me, anyway.” She made half a move to shift off of her barstool and as the three of them crowded around her she felt a sharp spring of panic rocket through her.
She was infinitely smaller than the three of them and sure, she could fight if she had to, but she doubted her chances three drinks into her night against men at least twice her size. She nearly jumped out of her skin as another woman approached them and her knees wobbled as a soft calm spread over her at the realization that she was essentially being rescued. Of course, the relief lasted all of three seconds when the fight erupted around her and she was only vaguely conscious of the bouncers tossing her impromptu hero out before she was gathering her things and pushing her way outside.
She fumbled in her pockets for her cigarettes and held the pack towards the blonde with a bashful grin, “H-here, you can b-bum one. Least I c-could do, right?” Her eyes wandered over the other woman as her brows furrowed, “Christ, th-they got a few good licks in d-didn’t they? A-are you okay? Alright, a-actually, that feels like a stupid q-question, don’t answer that. I—” She paused abruptly, pressing a cigarette between her own lips to calm down, “I’m Ellie.”
