Mackenzie gave her playful glare as she shoves her gently  “ Bugger off and leave me alone, I play more than just fancy games thank you very much!” He replied in a playful huff as he looks at her.

“Bugger off and leave me alone.” Elly mocked, unable to keep the slight Chelsea influence from coming out in her words. Great. Now she’d be stuck like that the rest of the day. Whenever she brought out the Chelsea accent she’d picked up from all the summer spent in London, it would take her more time than she’d like to admit to get rid of it. It was annoying. "Ugh, now look what you’ve made me do.” She sighed, pushing past him as she headed out the door of her apartment, continuing to walk down the hall towards the elevator, not waiting for him to catch up.

He lifted an eyebrow as he opens her door for her.  “ It sounds like some kids game like something I might get bored of after a while but if you really think I’ll like it then I will give it a go!” He replied smiling as he looked at her, he was happy to give it a go if she felt it would be worth it.

Elly didn’t really view it as just some kids game. It was pretty tough; and she figured it was something that could be enjoyed by anyone who was willing to give it a try when bored. “I didn’t say I’d think you’d like it. You just said whatever game you were playing was addictive; and I told you about this super addictive game I knew of... I dunno if you’d like it. It’s probably not flashy enough for you, Ken Ken.”

Blix let the other enter the password into her computer but watched her closer. With some things she had learned you had to be careful. “Long passwords are good though. Less likely to get hacked honestly.” She said scooting closer and nodding, “Nice to meet you. I’m Blix and you are forever known as a life saver.” 

Elly didn’t initially plan on making a long login password for her computer. When she first got a laptop, her password had simply been her favorite superhero (Batman) followed by her birthday (0101). But she changed it after getting the idea to make her password the first letter of every single SDCC costume she’d ever worn. Years she didn’t go, she used a period in place of a letter. Plus the cool thing about doing this, she updated it annually. It kept her password fresh, even if it was getting pretty long considering she had fifteen years of conventions to fall back on, dating back to eight year old her wearing a store bought Batgirl dress. “Blix... Don’t think I’ll be forgetting that one any time soon. Cool name.” She nodded. It was definitely one she hadn’t ever heard before. But she liked it.

Lena rolled her eyes at Elly as she faked her contemplation and thought process, and shook her head at the dramatics. “Sounds perfect to me.” She smiled. It was true, Lena did help Elly out as much as she could, but that wasn’t something she felt she needed something back with in return. But Lena wasn’t going to refuse free self-defense classes from her one of her close friend. “How have you been?” She asked, wanting to get the topic away from the situation that just happened.

"I’ve been pretty good, all things considered.” Elly answered, withholding half of the truth for now. She was still struggling to fully come to terms with everything, even if it had been a few months since first learning her lung function was now in the yellow. It wasn’t something easy for her to process, especially when she kept having days she felt like shit (not that she’d ever tell anyone that). But everything else in her life was going well. And that’s what mattered. That’s what she was trying to focus on. “Starting to think about my Halloween costume now that it’s September. I feel like come September 1st, I can officially start talking Halloween without getting weird looks.”

“Really and what is the game about?” He asked as he looked at her while starting to make his way out of the house with her. “ I am always looking for new games to play so if I think it sounds good I may check it out

“So there’s a bunch of colored circles of assorted sizes on the screen. You control this little white circle; and you gotta, like, eat the smaller circles without hitting the bigger ones.... I know it sounds kinda lame; but I found it through Bored Button and was hooked.” Elly shrugged. It had been great at killing time during her last hospital stay. Bored Button had helped her find random things to keep her occupied when she was tired of reading comics or playing her DS or Switch.

Lena nodded when Elly declined her offer, but shrugged nonetheless. Without her friend, she hated to admit that she didn’t know what she would have done. The push hadn’t gotten him far, and it didn’t boost Lena’s confidence. “Then.. how about you utilize your skills and teach me how to.. you know, do what you did in case it happens again?” She questioned, looking over towards her. She felt odd asking it, but she didn’t exactly want to stay away from the bar just because of this one little incident.

Elly feigned like she had to think things over. For a long moment, she was quiet, just starting at Lena with a look of deep contemplation on her face. Finally, she spoke up. “Eh, I suppose it’s the least I could do. I mean, you let me come to you with all my random ass medical questions. Perks of having a nurse friend... Free self defense classes should be perks of having a blackbelt friend. Just let me know when you’re free; and we can start with the basics.” She was 100% game to teach any of her friends how to defend themselves. No one, regardless of gender, should feel helpless or scared. They should have the tools to fight for themselves. Plus, it always felt pretty badass slamming the face of some douchey perv into a table then watching them run off like a scared puppy.

Mackenzie got up and looked at her  “ Okay okay I am coming  Jesus” He teased as he fakes announce. “ But for what it’s worth it is a very good game and very addictive!”

“You wanna talk about addictive games? Go online and look up the polka dot game. I ended up playing that for, like, a week straight last time I was stuck in the hospital.” Elly shared. She hadn’t played that game since; but she remembered it being one she had a hard time stopping. She just wanted to break 100; but it was so difficult.

“Not that I really care but it’s for a debate over dinner tonight and I want to win. Thank you for the insight,” Corrina was rather subtly competitive in nature and certainly would not go down without a fight whether she knew something rather well or not. “Well Disney should just suck it, we can’t be money hungry all the time,” she simply stated as she looked through the magazine display by the front desk. In her opinion, money and greed always ended disastrously at some point in time. “Anyways, what’s new with you lady? When are you gonna open up your own shop?” She knew Elly had always dreamed of opening her own academy similar to the environment of American Ninja Warriors, but because of her setbacks it seemed like that dream was fading away. However, Corrina fully believed that people were able and should be able to give their all despite life’s curveballs. 

“What’s new with me?” Whenever someone asked Elly that question, she felt like it was always at a time in her life where she either had a lot going on or nothing at all. Right now, it was a weird transition period between the two. “Well I was up in North Carolina about a month ago to film a movie one of my dad’s friends is directing.” She began to share. “Got more than a five minute scene in this one; and I’m alive by the time the credits roll.” Growing up, she’d always had small roles in all her dad’s movies; but he had a tendency to kill off her character. “So I kinda took a break from Red Arrow Archery to focus on maybe getting back into acting. Still wanna open the archery school, though. Pretty sure I found a solid location halfway between here and Atlanta.” She finished, opting to organize the little keychains by the cash register as she spoke. “What about you? I feel like it’s been ages since we’ve caught up; so of course we’re gonna have to properly catch up when I’m not in the middle of a shift.”

Sitting down on the sofa he made himself comfortable and just as he really got into his game she came back  “ In a moment” He replied as he focuses on passing the level in best fiends.

Elly watched in silence for a moment as Mackenzie played his game. Shaking her head, she finally spoke up. “And here I thought you told me not to keep you waiting... And now here you are, keeping me waiting.” She tapped her foot, hands on her hips; though it was clear she wasn’t serious.

Now that it was September, the weather was cooling off a bit. And while Elly was more a fan of summer than any other season, she didn’t mind the coolness. It meant she could still go for runs outside on the days she woke up late without it being too hot or humid. Though while she was out for her run today, she noticed a woman get up from one of the park benches and start to walk away. And once the woman had walked away, she noticed a book still sat on the bench. Jogging towards the bench, she picked up the book before scanning the vicinity for the woman who had just left. She figured it belonged to her; so she might as well try and return it. Spotting her, she started towards her. “Hey!” She called out once she neared the other. “This book yours?”

“You can’t keep Mr Ken Doll waiting!” He teased as he looked at her kicking her bum playfully as she walks past him, once she was out of sight he sat down and started playing some game oh his phone he had really gotten into it.

“Go listen to that ‘Barbie Girl’ song or something.” Elly stated as she slammed the door behind her in order to change into her running clothes. Just over ten minutes later, she reemerged. Like she thought, it’d only taken a few minutes to change; so she’d been scrolling through her phone just to keep Mackenzie waiting longer. “You ready?”

Lena watched intently as the guy shook himself off and walked away slowly, clearly realising his advances weren’t working, or even worth it. Elly could beat him up in a second in his intoxicated state, and he knew it. Besides, it must have been embarrassing for his friends to see him getting beaten by El. “I– uh.. yeah, I think I am.” She frowned. She’d have to take some self-defence classes or something. Not that this type of thing happened often, but just in case it happened again. “Yeah. Thank you, I owe you one. Big time. Want a drink?”

Elly held up the mocktail she’d been holding with the hand not used to take care of the douchebag. “I’m good; but thanks.” She smiled, politely turning down Lena’s offer. “You really don’t owe me anything... I got four blackbelts; and I like when they come in handy. Might as well utilize my skills for good, right?” She really didn’t feel like standing up for her friend warranted any sort of reward. She would’ve done it for anyone. It was just in her protective nature.

Funny, now.. sure– yeah it kinda, is.’‘  A hand purposely goes up to ruffle her hair only because he hears the sarcasm, only grunting in response to her words. Once catching the pillow, he lets out a dramatic sigh and tosses it back in her direction. 

‘‘Y’totally killed the fluff in it. Now c’mon, seein’ as y’destroyed the fluff you use it now. Also, wouldn’t call myself lazy.. just really didn’t– feel.. gettin’ up right now, y’would’ve destroyed more pillows if I left.’‘ 

“Eh. Cute, funny... You’re both; so deal with it.” Elly rolled her eyes as she caught the pillow Micah threw back her way. “If it’s that big a deal I killed the fluff, I’ll buy a new pillow. Simple as that.” She commented before trying to refluff the pillow. It worked partially; but she’d punched the crap out of it pretty good.

“You’re multifaceted,” Palmer settled on, giving the machine a good natured kick.  He rarely found himself with change, and his dollars were always too crumpled for the machines to take them without him running them over the side three or four times.  “I’ve been trying to convince the guy who owns this that we need to host a twenty one plus night like once a month - imagine all the money we’d make,”

A twenty one plus night at the arcade... That was actually a pretty great idea. Despite owning pretty much every game console and having a collection of hundreds of games, Elly frequented Ready Player One just for the experience and nostalgia factor. But there were lots of times the place was filled with younger kids who didn’t fully appreciate the games. They treated it more like an arcade on the boardwalk rather than a retro arcade in a small town. “Y’know, that’s not a terrible idea. I think it’d go over really well. Might need a little something extra to go with it and draw in that desired crowd; but it’s got hella potential.”
