‘ don’t tell anybody i said this, but marrying rich is your best career option. if you don’t, you’ll probably have a lot of days that look like mine. you haven’t had coffee yet? oh, you poor thing. how are you even standing upright? ’

“first day back joys,” robin’s tone may have come off as a bit too excited, but it was her attempt at a joke. “i’m always in need of espresso so i would love to join you. what made you have to be the person to help in the gift shop. aren’t you too important for that or something?”

‘ it’s a long story. i’m the one everybody calls when something goes wrong. it’s like, i didn’t take this job to babysit a bunch of overgrown toddlers. i don’t even know how some of the employees afford to live here. remind me again why it isn’t acceptable to bully your coworkers out of town? ’

‘ i would hope that you could. anybody with basic comprehension skills should be able to. i had to tell this woman that striped sweatshirts and polka dot tank tops aren’t meant to be stacked together, like, six times. too wild? do i even want to know what that means? ’

“god, tell me about it. i had to drag a crying four year old and a screaming six year old to school and had to somehow wake up two bratty teenage girls for their first day of senior year that just so happen to sleep like hibernating bears. it may only be early afternoon, but i’m going to need something stronger than an espresso.”

‘ i don’t think i could deal with that many children. one is enough to make me contemplate spiking my dinner with arsenic from time to time. you’re truly a saint. i’m always in the mood for something a bit stronger. i’ve got a bottle of russo-baltique in my glove compartment. i won’t tell anybody if you don’t. ’
