The quiet of morning, the sun beginning to rise, the only sounds echo from across the compound were muted taps of light footfall. Around the garden and into the yard where the dummies stood ramrod upright and waiting. Rolling her neck, jumping back and forth between her feet, Raiko finished up her final stretches. Not alone but only one listening would hear the subtle sounds of two.
Beside her, Vidhi is showing off her flexibility as she cantered back into a casual handstand, feet rolling through the sky neatly before landing. It was more often than not they’d meet without pre-arrangement. Just two friends who had a similar mind far too often. In mosts cases, it was definitely of benefit to know her best friend’s mind- helped cut a lot of time and people out of her circle. An easy understand indeed.
Taking up the polished bo, weighing the wood in her hands, it felt good. A bit stiff compared to the metal ones she preferred but this is merely to stay sharp. Vi waved around the boken a few times- seemed a touch too heavy for her liking but sorting out practice weapons would have to be managed later. Now, came the green flash. Without warning, one, two foot taps and she was borne across the space, closing the gap neatly. The boken whipping across just in time to have the dragoon glance away from her person. Truly a fencer to the core, she was so dainty in step, soft in smile it was easy to forget those dark days at the end of the war. It still felt so near yet eons ago as they enjoy a hard-earned peace.
A small grunt as Raiko braked, launching herself into the air to deliver a dive at the miqote. Vidhi must have seen this move several million times, dodging instinctively as the air above rippled towards her, lavender strands rustled by movement. Trading advances and parries, the two seemed to put forth full effort into besting one another, letting each others’ competitive natures have their chance. A grunt, hum slipped from the miqote’s delicate lips as she slipped the blade from feint into attack, Raiko barely rolling away. Taking a hearty dusting from the courtyard, crouched and unleashed, the viera charged reactively, not really reading much into the plays Vidhi had laid out.
Sipping a cup of tea from the balcony, Ildan leaned against the stone pillar of their home. Watching, reading the movements, the sloppy footwork and thoroughly enjoying the silence. For all of their laughter and jokes, the quiet they shared was most precious. To have air and love and stillness, not to be swayed by words, it was truly a peace worth fighting for.
