Mari was at war with herself. She enjoyed the attention Carlos offered and even the compliments that came from his lips. She felt prettier and more attractive in ways she hadn’t in a while. Slightly more embarrassed and feeling her face continue to heat up, Mari clasped her hands together and giggled nervously. “I am lost and maybe I had one too many drinks earlier.” She graciously filled his glass, warmth flooding her, but not from his attention, more from her own amusement and yes embarrassment. She noticed Zé in the distance but he didn’t come closer and for a second Mari’s smile faltered. Was it because she was talking to Carlos? Carlos who kept moving closer. Carlos whose lips brushed her cheek and caused her to shiver. She bit her lip, eyes falling to her feet as she tried to recover. Slowly she lifted her head, teeth still tugging at her bottom lip as brown eyes opened wider to take him in. Why was someone so handsome and rich and obviously more capable of spending time with those who were attending the party and not working the party, showering her with so much attention. “Marissa but my friends call me Mari.” She filled his glass again. Studying his lips as they formed words. Was the party boring or was she boring him. “I’m sorry you’re bored.” Her eyes searched the crowd for Zé but she couldn’t find him. “Maybe…Maybe… Zé could show you around. He’s good at finding fun.”

The closer the other got to her, the more nervous she became. She liked the attention more than she realized but something felt off about it and she couldn’t put her finger on it. Shrugging a little at his question, Mari became aware of just how close he was. How their bodies were pressed together and people were beginning to stare and whisper. She took a step back, tripping on her own feet and nearly falling but managing to catch herself as she gripped the bar. “I don’t think this party is supposed to be fun for me.” Eyes shifting a little and returning to his face, “I’m enjoying talking to you.”

It might be that Carlos was oblivious of others or he just didn’t care but he surely didn’t notice the way the young woman took one step away from him. He was persistent and advanced, keeping the smile on his lips and this time, even reaching out to touch the strand of hair on the side of the maid’s face. “If I wanted Zé to show me fun, I would’ve dragged him out of this party already,” he shrugged his shoulders. “Marissa, huh? Pretty name. Not as pretty as you though,” hand slid down the woman’s back, stopping just above where her ass curved. “I can’t even imagine how boring this is for you,” he shook his head without taking his eyes off of her. “Serving drinks and food to these rich assholes,” his eyes squinted, finishing the new drink she’d poured him. “Are you?”

It was a tiny sign he was looking for, the woman admitting she enjoyed his company. “I’m enjoying yours, too... You’re very pretty.”
