Hey everyone!  Again, I’ve failed in keeping up with my Tumblr.  Art has been slow so far this year, but I have been dabbling in nature art and plein air.  I do try to get out a sketch or two every chance I get.  I still don’t have internet--at least, not enough to claim I do, and internet usage is prohibited at my job.  Anyway, still need to post the rest of my daily sketches from last year.  I didn’t finish, even though I sketched up until midnight New Year’s Eve.  I’m really proud of the project, for what it’s worth, and will hopefully try it again sometime soon.  For anyone who would like to see more, I am most active on Instagram and occasionally Twitter for more personal items and rough sketches.  I’m also in the process of collecting what art I have done recently to update my DeviantArt page as well as this one.

Artsnacks Challenge, April 2017. Fun tools this month! Decided to use them on a little pic of the lovely characters Shiva and “Teacher” from the story “Siúil, a Rún; The Girl from the Other Side.” Only one volume in, but I’m completely invested already.

Watching Toonami a couple weeks ago really got me wanting to draw, so I doodled up some stuff. Might add some color later if I feel to it. Most of this was inked by dim lamplight during a power outage, haha. Goten vs Trunks was always a fun episode of DBZ. New Samurai Jack is really good so far… I missed that show. And RIP Bryce Pappenbrook’s crazy Italian accent. Farewell Caesar, beautiful bubble boy.

Long absence and ABC

Hello followers and new visitors just stopping in.  I want to apologize for being gone so long.  This year has been absolutely terrible for me in many ways, and pretty good in others.  I’m sorry if I had a message I wasn’t able to get to.  Internet has become harder than ever to get use of, and there have been a couple of projects that fell through because of it.  I’m going to try to manage my time better from here on, and try to keep posts up to date.  In the meantime, enjoy these collections of daily sketches from earlier this year.  I’m about two and a half months behind on it (collectively over various skipped days), so I’ll have to figure out how to post the rest. 

Also, I will be tabling at Anime Blast Chattanooga this year, which I’m really looking forward to.  I’m hoping to get at least a couple new things ready before then, and if anyone going has suggestions, I’ll gladly consider them.  Since I don’t have internet, I don’t have any clue as to what animes people are watching.  Guess I’ll stick with the classics and the Toonami lineups.  ;)  Thank all of you who have continued following me all along.  I appreciate it more than you know.

366 Daily Sketch Challenge.  Days 105-110.  I think this is where I started getting the hang of things and hit my stride.  Also where I started going way too detailed...  Details under read more.

105.   I was in a Payne's Gray mood, so all colors have it as the base.  This paper is eternally frustrating, not to mention small, but I keep doing what I can.  The clips I use to reduce buckling in turn leave creases on the pages.  Just can’t win.  Inked with gray 005 Copic Multiliner and colored with watercolor--lots of Payne’s Gray. 

106.  This one was whipped out pretty quickly, considering, but I rather like it.  Blue 005 Prismacolor pen.

107.  He appeared in a dream over half a lifetime ago. Outwardly, he appeared plain, wearing a baggy, black hoodie and an indifferent expression.  But his eyes were ice, and there was a depth explained only in brief flashes.  I fell in love with the idea of him, and created a world for him based on those flashes. He has not revisited my dreams since, but I have lived his entire life.  Perhaps he was my muse all along... (I know how emo he looks, but strangely, he pre-dated the whole emo thing by a few years.) Inked with a Sakura Graphic 1, and colored with mostly indigo watercolor.

108.  Frogs and toads are absolutely adorable.  That’s really all there is to say on the matter.  Inked with sepia Zig Mangaka Flexible and brown Sakura Brush pens, and toned with watercolor.  Dragonflies done with white gel pen.

109-110.  I seriously regret drawing this in this book.  I really like it, and there’s so much I could do with it if it were on better paper.  Fish people are hard, but fun, and you can just keep adding little details as you go.  Inked with blue 005 Prismacolor pen.

366 Daily Sketch Challenge.  Days 97-104.  This is skipping two days, because during that period, I was notified suddenly that my job was getting moved an hour away and that I would no longer be on salary.  I was so bummed that I couldn’t bring myself to draw, and later chose to leave them blank to signify that moment in time.  Otherwise, celebrated some 413 in here, plus got a bit more comfortable with watercolor.  More details under read more.

97-98.  Was feeling very uncreative and down, so just did some generic fantasy doodling.  It was also better before darkening the bg, but hey, lessons learned. Inked with various Kuretake brush pens.

99.  Found some dust mites lurking about.  :)  Inked with sepia Sakura Micron 005.

100.  “I guess you’re gonna have to decapitate me...”  Ah, the Striders.  Gonna miss their antics now that Homestuck is supposedly over....for now.  Watercolor.

101.  I started drawing a figure with their hand on their hip, and immediately thought of two OC's that tend to do that often. So here they are, looking done with whatever crap is going down around them.  Brihan Dianoche and Tayra Feleba. Inked with one of the Kuretake Bimoji fudes and a Zig Millennium.

102.  “Ataladora had taken in the human child when he was very young, and made him a part of her domain and a member of her clan.  She adored him, and taught him all that she could, pushing aside the realization that he would have to return to his world eventually...the very world that was destroying hers.”  My OC's Caden and Ataladora.  I've not drawn her in a decade, I think, and I screwed up her mouth, go figure.  Inked with 005 sepia Copic Multiliner.

103.  Oh, to be magical... Inked with purple 005 Micron and colored with two Derwent Inktense pencils and water.

104.   I wanted to have something small to celebrate the final 413, and this was all I could manage at the time.  So, here's the leaders of the Beta kids' and trolls' sessions, John Egbert and Karkat Vantas. Another attempt at basic watercolor, even though this paper is very thin and not meant for wet media.

366 Daily Sketch Challenge.  Days 87-94.  A lot of misses this section, except for the one in the middle.  Details under read more.

87.  It was Easter.  I had to draw a bunny.  He ended up a little psychotic-looking, but eh, what can you do?  Inked with a Sailor Mitsuo Aida.

88.  There are a couple bats that fly around my back yard every evening, and it's fun to watch them flicker through the branches. (And that should be a bug instead of a strawberry, but just go with it.) I can’t remember what that fude pen is called off the top of my head, but it does smudge easily.

89-90.  Finally drew the Yu Yu Hakusho boys!  I hate pompadours with a passion, and Kuwabara's face is hard to figure out. Also, I don’t know what went wrong with drawing Kurama’s face, but I HATE how this “turned out.”  Gotta draw him again sometime and do more justice.  Inked with Sakura brush pens, which, as I found out here, sometimes don’t have a good point, and therefore can’t achieve detail properly.

91-92.  “She often caught herself wondering why it had to be her.  She was nothing, came from nowhere, and knew very little.  Yet, all elements coalesced in the most unpredictable ways possible for the last person anyone could have guessed.  She was the only one in the -universe- who could even come close to reaching him. She didn't know what he wanted.   How could she?  He made her life, once so promising, and the lives of those close to her an actual hell, and even for him, the reasons were completely arbitrary. They were more alike than they thought. Those with power are the ones who do right.”  My OC’s Sara and Velorak.  I’m very fond of this one, and I was tempted to make it it’s own post, but decided not to break from the format.  Inked with purple 005 Micron.

93.  It’s a cat boy.  Not much to say about this one.  Toned with a Derwent Graphitint and some water.

94.  Ordinary girl finds mystical amulet that releases magical critter.  They go on adventures.  Choose Your Own Adventures.  And, like any self-respecting Choose Your Own Adventure, every choice ends in your doom, the downfall of mankind, and the destruction of all known civilization. --Inked with XS Pitt pen.

366 Daily Sketch Challenge.  Days 81-86.  Details under read more.

81.  I went through a really bad spot on my life through the end of last year and the first half of this year.  This day is a semi-representational self portrait of sorts.  Also, Health’s music is “to die for.”  :P  Inked with various-sized and toned brush pens.

82.  After the previous day’s darkness, I needed something much lighter, and went with a chibi Kenshin.  At this point, I realized my chibis were badly out of practice.  Inked with a Zig Mangaka fude pen and colored with watercolors and gouache.

83.  A deer boy, in some weird pose.  Antlers are my go-to when feeling stuck.  Or just when I want antlers...which is always.  Inked with 005 Zig Millennium pen.

84.  Some weird centicorn, and a LOT of tiny vines, which I will not be doing again anytime soon.  Inked with brown Sakura brush pen.

85-86.  “Below Sara, they were the most powerful defenders alive--both Garans, one blessed, one cursed.  They fought side by side, even though the enemy seemed insurmountable against even their power.  It had been long and overwhelming at times, and neither had noticed that Torbin had gone missing....”  My boys Elireth and Tobiryn. I didn't feel like drawing their wings, so I just scribbled in the indication of them.

366 Daily Sketch Challenge.  Days 73-80.  This was an empty week that had been bugging the hound out of me and kept me from posting any more progress.  I just last week filled it in, but now I’m so far behind on other parts, that the project has all but failed.  I’m currently preparing for an Artist Alley next month, so I’ve had to put it on hold again.  Details of these images under cut.

73-74.  Some simple chibis of one of my favorite mangas of all time: Saiyuki.  I’m so sad that Tokyopop went under, never to finish releasing the later series here in the states.  Nor do I have time to read scanlations, so I’m very behind on the story.  These were inked with a Stylo pen, which is like a poor man’s fountain pen.  It was a little tricky, and Gojyo and Hakkai were inked in my car, so they’re a little wonky.  And Sanzo’s huge head, lol.

75.  Was trying to do something quick, and doodled a face.  It started looking like some sort of hobbit, so I just ran with it.  Inked with a sepia Sakura brush pen, and simple watercolor tones of hematite burnt scarlet.

76.  “As she mourned the loss of a dear friend, they ordained her a ruler and made her swallow her grief.”  My OC Sara, although this admittedly turned out not looking much like her.  Inked with blue 005 Prismacolor pen.

77-78.  Hit a rough patch creatively, so just drew some of my OC's to keep going. They're always there for me. 😳  Thought about adding some splashes of color, but decided it would ruin it. I also didn't have time to do their hair, so just left it blank as a stylistic choice. Sorry for the glare.  My characters B'or'jeno Mer'din, Brihan Dianoche, Jenna Lexton, and Hawkinia Kross.

79-80.  Continuing the theme with more half-done OC’s:  Elireth Cathar, Tobiryn,  Col. Varnell, and Dr. Nate Mullins.

366 Daily Sketch Challenge.  Days 66-72.  I have nothing for the week after this, and I debating waiting to post more until I can catch up with those days...but who knows when that will be.  Details below read more.

66.  This is one of my favorites that I’ve done so far.  The posing is a little wonky (I honestly draw the sketches in my car during my lunch break, so it’s a bit hard to get very precise), but my hand wasn’t too shaky, so I managed some smooth lines!  I don’t know what possessed me to draw armor, but hey, I went for it.  Drawn with one of the Kuretake Bimoji pens and hair/horn details done with a Zig Millennium 005.

67-68.  I actually drew this one on St. Patrick’s Day (I’m always behind), so I wanted to do something green.  Was going to be a simple chibi fairy, but she ended up much bigger, semi-chibi, and with a lot more detail than intended.  She was fun, though.  Used new Olive Copic Multiliner for lines.  The color was a combination of a Pentel Metallic brush pen and a metallic Wink of Luna brush pen.  Instead of applying them directly, I made a blot on separate paper, and used a water brush to dilute it and brush in the details lightly.  This gave the drawing a metallic sheen without over-saturating it.

69.  A quick little drawing from my favorite game.  Doesn’t do it any justice being a quick drawing, but I’m always good with drawing Link.  Zig Millennium fineliner and a Pitt brush for the Triforce.

70.  An excerpt from the Adventure Time episode "Flute Spell." I thought this scene was handled incredibly well, and refreshing for not just a fantasy cartoon, but anything on TV recently.  Also, just wanted to draw Huntress Wizard and Finn’s glorious hair.  My hand was really shaky this day, so I just kept it loose.  Drawn simply with a Zig Millennium fineliner.

71.  Wanted to draw a hardcore but simple butt-whoopin’ chick.  Brand new purple Micron 005.  It needed a background, but this was not what I wanted.... Oh, well.

72.  I’m aware that pictures like this are a dime-a-dozen, and mine’s even cheaper because she doesn’t have multiple noses or mouths, too, but for some reason, it just felt like the right thing to draw.  Inked with one of the Kuretake Bimoji pens and the blue was a Liquitex paint marker I got from an ArtSnacks box, and it almost destroyed the paper.  orz.

366 Daily Sketch Challenge.  Days 59-65.  As always, details on subject and medium used below read more.

59:  One of the times I just let my pencil wander and see what happens.  Some magical being, perhaps a priestess of some sort.  Inked with Sepia Copic Multiliner and colored with Inktense pencils and water.

60.  I don’t draw big nasties very often, so I felt it was time for a creature.  He’s an orc who’s seen his fair share of battles, but he’s not really fond of fighting.  Shaded with Graphitint pencil and water.

61.  “It had taken a while for her to warm up to him. It was bad enough the Commander had practically adopted him, but he always seemed so pathetic.  However, he showed an intense interest in the workings of the ship, and she enjoyed having an apprentice (as it were) who actually seemed to care almost as much as she did.  Mar eventually proved his worth to Hawk, and his apprehension of her subsided.  His meekness and her fiery attitude still clashed at times, but there was a complete understanding, and she accepted him as not only a brother in arms, but as an actual brother, as well.”  My OC’s Marcoban and Hawk.  Inked with Zig Millennium and gray Copic Multiliner.

62.  My OC Torbin in his Quantran form (which I don’t draw nearly enough).  I’m rather fond of this one, though, I really rather fond of him, too.  Simple 0.5 mechanical pencil sketch.

63-64.  Another nature study using pictures I have taken as reference.  The composition is terrible, but the point was just to draw some mushrooms.  :)  Trying my hand a gouache again.  Since this one, I’ve gotten more colors, so I won’t have to mix as many colors on the spot next time.

65.  “The Saydig were terrifying creatures that seemed to appear overnight.  They appeared on many planets that had no previous record of them, but no one could figure out how a being with such limited intellectual capacity could achieve space travel.  Someone had to be planting them.  They were enormous, strong, and fast, centaur-like with six appendages, muscular, but lean. They were blind, but their heightened senses of smell and hearing made up for it. Some people who got close enough to study them noticed that they seemed to resemble a combination of other races in a disturbing way.”  ..I haven’t really put much design thought into these characters after all these years.  I need to get on that.  Inked with Akashiya ThinLine in Sumiiro and Copic Multiliner in Sepia, and shaded with Kuretake Fudebiyori pocket brush pen in light gray.
