Rambling On

All nurses should have 5 extra days a year in which to weep. Seriously. Just pick up the phone and say, “ Hello work. This is Ely RN and I am taking day 2 of my 5 allotments . I’m going to cry today.” Oh, I am well aware that we are not the only profession that needs mental health days. We are among the list of professionals who are most likely to require antidepressants and anti anxiolytics, have marital problems and commit suicide all while making the world feel better. You know like Policemen, Firefighters, Soldiers and Sailors. There are many. We as a nation have been conditioned to be consumers of everything BUT coping skills and to hold each other to standards they we can not dream to achieve. WAKE UP! We NEED each other. We need to hold hands, help little old ladies cross the street or help build a neighbors fence. Only then will the madness stop. Only then will prejudice and killing sprees of any kind become shocking again. I wanted more than anything to be shocked today. I wasn’t and that my friends is sad. If you run out of milk or eggs my door is always locked so you will have to ring the bell and wait for me to check my cameras but then, I will be more than happy to share mine.

I'm at that point in my life where I am desperately hanging on to my femininity. I'm all about the lotions and potions. I was not at all a girly girl growing up. I climbed trees and rode my bike to the lake to fish. I was nearly thirty years old when I realized that I was attractive. That's right. I never really considered it before then. I was too busy raising babies and being a coach to their ball teams. Needless to say, I was well into my fourth decade before I panicked at the sight of a wrinkle. I guess I thought time would never catch me. It did. The sagging. Oh the dreaded sagging from eyes to thighs I have it going on. I was never objectified. I do not have a need to attract the opposite or even the same sex. I do not feel less than. I like pretty things. I love pretty underclothes that do not get caught on the scales where my thighs use to be. Ooooooh a lace bralette with a wide enough back strap to contain my back and side fat. I love the feel and smell of girly products. I like my lashes to look as thick and soft as they did when I was twenty. Stop letting the world tell you that you are shallow or weak for wanting to hang on a little longer. Stop letting them define your sense of beauty. Being a woman is being whatever you want and doing things however you please. I choose to be a feminist by embracing, slathering, injecting, and squatting my way to sixty. I shall not go quietly into the night. I will not grow old gracefully but instead, kicking and screaming my way there. If you see me give me a wave. I'll be the one in thigh high boots.
