But this is Bucky we’re talking about. Bucky ‘I think what I did as the winter soldier is my fault’ Barnes. He’s going to do whatever he can to help atone for ‘his’ crimes. So I picture him sneaking muffin baskets and cookies on the doorsteps of the families of those he was forced to kill. And when they’ve been given more food than they could possibly eat, he goes to soup kitchens and works in the background, wears long sleeves and gloves and glasses and tries to stay unnoticed. Not just by those hunting him or who might be afraid of him, but he doesn’t want Steve to know because Steve would want to help. And this is something Bucky has to do alone, because he killed those people and he can’t have Steve trying to ease his guilt because he thinks he deserves to feel the way he does. He wants to feel the burden sometimes because he never wants to forget what he had become and what he can’t risk becoming again.
