New Art

Hey guys,

So I haven't been on here for a while (ok, ages and ages), but I am revisiting and revitalizing my web presence. This means I now have a twitter! yes, finally. I also have a new blog feature on my website, so thats nice. You can have a look at it here www.elysiondesigns.com

Anyways, here is a sketch that I have been working on for some printmaking I am doing at uni. I am thinking of laser cutting the design into perspex so I can make an intaglio print from it. I'll put pictures up as I go and let you all know!

I HATE WEB STUFF THINGS!!!!! Who even decided that it would be a good idea to do anything in a language that NOT A SINGLE PERSON learns from birth! I mean, how hard would it be to make HTML, CSS and PHP function based on normal english without all these weird rules and confines!

A spin on the traditional 'about me' image

I decided to add a more personal touch on the idea of having a self portrait in your 'about me' section. so I did a  . ..  yep. ILLUSTRATION!

I love illustrating!!! If I fail as a graphic designer, I think I can always fall back on this. Maybe I should look into doing kiddies books or something?

I sat down with a big cup of tea and some good music and begun to thrash out some ideas. Of course the first step is to make a few really rough sketches of how the page layout will look.

I begun by drawing up a few pages in this style, and looking at heaps of other people's portfolios. This is a great way to get inspiration, and to see what the current trends are doing, in order to make sure your work is up to date.

This, and a few hours on photoshop has started heading me in the right direction. I think I can now start a few sketches and illustartions and see what I can come up with.

Portfolio!

So I am going to document the journey of my portfolio as my first project on this tumblr.

I love art, and I love illustration, so of course these have been the key influences for the portfolio. I have been working on a special style recently based on a very 'art nouveau' style. This is a poster I did recently for a friends birthday, that expresses this approach.

I am going to start sketching soon, trying to formulate a consistency that I am not going to get board of! Thats partly what I am most worried about, a portfolio that doesn't reflect who I am as a designer and as a creative person.
