this pride month, I want to inquire why bruno is the main half of bruabba who's portrayed as transmasc, and challenge the standard criteria for headcanoning a character as transmasc or transfem. this isn't targeting anyone, so hold your horses

now, I fully understand why *leone* is popularly headcanoned as transfem! he started out with short hair, and in the present he has long hair and a more fem appearance. pretty solid!

so... why is bruno made to be the one who's transmasc to be leone's t4t counterpart? obviously the answer is that it's just a headcanon and trans headcanons don't need to be supported with really niche evidence or any evidence at all in order to exist, because they should just be able to exist. But.

i want to question why (in this super specific context) the character who fandom likes to headcanon as motherly, doting and gentle is headcanoned as a trans man. is shorter, skinnier, curvier, has a softer voice. (these things are not disqualifying for a trans man and i do not want them to be. I'm just pointing out how these traits can be used by people other than that individual to subtly serve transandrophobia.)

from what I've seen, a lot of the transfem leone literatures are really well made! they delve into her childhood and her typically masculine dream job, and how she changed after the incident and upon joining passione. but transmasc bruno's stories seem to be kind of.. empty. nothing beyond his realization that he's a guy, nothing that considers how he grew up, after which he's just Default Bruno, or a passing mention of him needing to do his shot or something about his cycle. the character who has a more thorough backstory doesn't have it utilized for his gender exploration. he's just an afterthought.
