I have a secret. As much as I hate to admit it. I think... I think I like him. Duan Jia Xu.

Iām tired of people dismissing the depth and beauty of works because they donāt understand the cultural and historical context and are unwilling to delve deeper. Iāve heard the vocal confusion and dismissal of the short film Bao and the complaints that the Mahjong scene in Crazy Rich Asians was too long and too difficult to understand for people whoāve never played Mahjong. But I wonāt let this mentality negatively frame the reception of Your Name Engraved Herein. Iāve read too many interpretations of the movie that will influence how many people will watch it and hinder appreciation for it and I cannot sit idly by. So hereās why I appreciated and loved Your Name Engraved Herein and think that what other people interpreted as shortcomings are actually in fact strengths.Ā
In 2019, Taiwan approved same-sex marriage, marking a step of progress in Asia. Reviews of the film Your Name Engraved Herein view that this forward direction should be celebrated more throughout the film, believing that the heavy mood and painful scenes of bigotry hindered the potential of the film. Many have thought that the toxic values of the past dominated the filmās atmosphere, casting a somber mood and making it difficult to stomach. But I think these elements were essential in reminding us that not everyone had the opportunity to love openly and celebrate, and although Taiwan has made progress, what about those that grew up under a time where such rights were denied?Ā
I think the film is an intimate and beautiful homage to the people who lived through such a difficult time and had to fight for such rights--the directorās own experiences, the reference to activist Chi Chia-wei. Despite the tough topics and the painful bullying that we see, I think the film ends with beautiful light and hope.Ā

Crazy Rich Asians: Why I love It and the Mahjong Scene
Itās been two years, and Iām still in love with Crazy Rich Asians directed by Jon M. Chu less so for the plot but more so for all the deliberate and thoughtful work put into its production. I actually wanted to have a discussion with a few friends, but they said I was too passionate and just left so Iāve resorted back to tumblr for a source of all my feelings.

Derry Girls
I love Derry Girls so much but my family is refusing to watch it because I used to stand in front of the tv and try to read the subtitles with an Irish accent simultaneously. I absolutely adore the show and think season 2 did a phenomenal job of showing that James is a Derry Girl which was a super heart warming development. Iām not over the fact that it was Michelle who told him to stay. It was so emotional and even more impactful because she has been the most vocal about hazing him but itās also because sheās his cousin. She literally symbolizes FAMILY which the Derry Girls give to James. Honestly, the series is beautiful for its comedy but there are so many breathtaking moments of pure poetry: the foil between the kids and the parents in season 1 finale, Sister Michaelās somberness, deliberate and meaningful song choices. The dynamics within the friend group highlight the joy of youth but is also set against the backdrop of the turbulent times of the 90s in Northern Ireland. It pays a nod to nostalgia but also recognizes the growing pains of adolescence. Weāre kids enjoying the moment until history knocks on our front doors. When do presidential visits become more than reasons to skip school? And when does our world expand beyond our hometowns?Ā
Outlander is so good I canāt believe it took me this long to start watching it. Iām a slut for the Scottish countryside.
Iāve only seen one episode of Outlander but I have listened to the opening music 2,345,890 times

Bellamy is going to destroy Josephineās chip and Clarke will fall into his arms, bringing them both to the ground as he holds her. Everyone else standing in silence as Bellamyās hand holds her face waiting to see what happens. Clarke gently opens her eyes and she whispers āBellamyā with a crack in her voice. Bellamy will hold back his tears with a crooked grin and whisper with a shaking voice, āhey princessā and pulls her close to him with as they both cry softly, holding each other tight.
