Trying a long shot to see if I can find help here. I'm Briar. An Elder Enby who's disabled with migraines and vertigo, trying to survive homelessness in a state where that's illegal. And also trying to keep my father safe who's 70 and disabled from a stroke. Added to it is the holiday this week, our van deciding it wanted to die, and navigating everything else happening right now. Hey everyone, I know this week has already been hell for me, but I've been informed that my girlfreind Nyssa is now over $1500 in debt, among other things. She has only a couple days to pay off this debt. I have no idea if this going to fucking work because quite frankly, that's a fucking insane ammount of money but I'd feel worse if I didn't do something. If anyone can donate or boost, it'll mean a lot but I don't exactly have high hopes of this working.

I've just posted a primer on raising money if you don't normally raise money. This post is a reprint from the Dreamwidth post linked above.

I see a lot of fundraising pitches every week, and as someone who also works in fundraising, I see a lot of information about giving cross my desk each day.

Sometimes I see a pitch on YouCaring or GoFundMe or other fundraising sites, or even just in a tumblr post, and I wince, because I know that the pitch isn’t as effective as it could be, but also that now is not the time to give the person a lesson in fundraising technique.

Some of the problem is that we are a community of storytellers, and some of it is that when you’re trying to raise money after a disaster in your life, you’re just not feeling super coherent. A lot of it, I think, is inexperience. Not just inexperience in raising funds, but inexperience in the kind of thing I deal with every Sunday night when I assemble Radio Free Monday: reading a ton of fundraising efforts and trying to discern the goal and needs of each.

Because of all this, I wanted to bang together a guide to asking for money for people who don’t usually ask for money. This isn’t meant to be any kind of professional essay on the art of fundraising and it’s not really meant for organizations, but I hope that it may be helpful to individuals and small orgs who have an immediate need and maybe need a voice of reason and order in a life that has suddenly become unreasonable and chaotic.

So here we go.

Wish I posted on here more before posting this but here I am. 43, disabled, homeless and living in a hotel with my father. Doing everything myself. Money's needed to stay here by thursday 11am, food money's running out quickly at the same time, so to say anxiety is winning is an understatement. Anything helps <3

EXTREMELY URGENT REQUEST: EUROPEAN FUNDRAISER HOST NEEDED BEFORE JULY 10th

The family whose fundraiser I have adopted, Ahmed, Maram, and their three children, created their GFM without a bank account attached. Their account is in euro, which means I cannot attach my own, and I do not know any trusted individuals who would be able to attach theirs — I am coming to you with a desperate plea for help. I need someone in Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium. Portugal, Austria, Luxembourg, or Finland who I can trust will not rip off this family/steal their money who would be able to host their campaign or attach their details to it and transfer the money to them.

I need to find someone before July 10th, or else they will lose all of their evacuation and support funds.

I can attest to their legitimacy, and they have been vetted by @el-shab-hussein.

This is a struggling, 9-times displaced Palestinian family with a starving 10-month-old baby, a 4 year old, and a 2 year old. They have been waiting with more patience than I can express to raise funds, and they are so close to having enough to evacuate once the border opens. I would hate to see them crushed by losing all of the funds in such a dire, horrific situation.
