Netflix should have included Ferrant at Pavetta’s Betrothal because Kerack is right next to Cintra and that’s the tea.
Who the fuck is Ferrant de Lettenhove and also a summary of Season of Storms. (I made this for @hollowedpie, but like, it’s good information and it got way longer than I was anticipating so I’m posting it here).
As I’ve said, there’s not much that’s said about Ferrant in the canon, and Season of Storms is kind of a mess in terms of plot. Someone on Reddit summarized it best: “Geralt heads into a place where he gets framed for a crime, his swords get taken, shacks up with three sorceress, gets beaten up by some smelly women, eats a lot of food, and takes on a contract that ends up being vastly more complicated than it first appears.”
So for a quick summary of Season of Storms (with minimal spoilers):
Geralt goes to Kerack and honestly? I don’t remember why. It is is one of the tiny Northern Kingdoms that’s so unimportant its literally just one town.
He gets framed for a crime, jailed, attacked in jail (by guys who were paid to provoke him into a fight), then gets out on bond (we later find out it was Coral who paid his bond).
While on bond he goes to get his swords back only to discover that they had been taken from the official lockup that had been holding them.
In the middle of fighting the guards who were supposed to be protecting his swords (they attacked him), Dandelion shows up with his cousin Ferrant in tow
Ferrant is the Royal Instigator (aka Investigator) of Kerack and he’s the one investigating the swords
Some more stuff happens. Geralt bangs a sorceress named Coral. Wizards are doing Bad Shit and trying to blame Geralt. Geralt’s trial is pending. The loyal monarchy is having a succession crisis. All Geralt wants is his fucking swords back.
Eventually it comes out that the local was the one to create trumped up charges against Geralt, using Ferrant to forge documents
Coral was also involved in this. So she arranged for him to be jailed and also arranged for him to be bailed out. And he still fucked her.
Geralt’s attack in jail may or may not have been because of Ferrant. It’s either Ferrant or Coral who paid the men to provoke Geralt, but Sapko never says.
My blog canon: Ferrant arranged the attack not realizing it was Dandelion’s friend.
Lots more stuff happens. Really, this book is a fucking narrative disaster. Dandelion buys a fake sword for Geralt (who is still just trying to get his fucking swords back).
There’s a royal wedding. Dandelion is captured and threatened by some guys who want to use Geralt (I don’t even remember what for). Geralt saves him. Ferrant shows up and is like ‘we better tell the king that there’s guys trying to assassinate him’
The king gets killed. Ferrant is accused of being involved in the plot. He tells Geralt to take Dandelion and run when the king is about to torture him (Ferrant) for information.
This is the last we see of Ferrant, and his fate in canon is unknown.
My blog canon: Ferrant survived his torture, although he was expecting Geralt to rescue him, and eventually went back to his job working for the guy that tortured him like the moron he is.
In the background of all this, Yennefer casually buys Geralt’s swords when the thieves auctioned them off and mailed them to him.
On Dandelion and Ferrant’s relationship:
Dandelion apparently stops in to visit Ferrant from time to time “as you would a relative” and he seems to live with Ferrant during these visits (this is never outright stated, but it’s hinted).
Dandelion says that Ferrant is “the son of my father’s brother” and then says nothing else about their family.
Ferrant will only refer to Dandelion as “Julian” although he is fully aware of his aliases.
The cousins are very fond of one another:
Ferrant willingly gave himself up to torture to allow Geralt a chance to escape with Dandelion.
Geralt makes it very plain that he's only nice to Ferrant out of respect for what he means to Dandelion.
Dandelion thinks very highly of Ferrant and his investigative abilities and his “army of narcs, spies, and informants”
I’m about to post a huge meta post - mostly because the discord chat reminding me of some stuff - and like, I want to be clear: Ferrant is not evil. He is truly amoral and neutral. He does what he’s told, good, bad, or ugly.
bad idea starters.

Will I make icons? Who knows. Either way, like this for a starter from Ferrant de Lettenhove, the Royal Investigator of Kerack and resident problem child.

What does a mun have to do to write a thread with Jaskier where he comes to Ferrant for companionship after Geralt’s death?

He’s visiting Beauclair on official business - and it’s much more pleasant than the business he’s usually involved in - when he spots a familar face in the crowd. Although tempted to turn and walk away, there’s something he must discuss with the man. No, its not his torment - he can bring that up at a later date - it’s something far more pressing.
“Five years,” he says by way of introduction, assuming Geralt will recognize him. “You faked your death for five years, Lord Rivia.” A pause, then “Do you know what that did to my cousin?”
Angouleme
Angoulême understands exactly what he asks, even if his pronunciations are less than desired, and she’s more than adequate now in Common, but he doesn’t need to know this. Not now, not ever. To the girl’s credit, she looks nothing SHORT of innocent while blinking owlish hazel eyes. “ Fuck ! ” Oh, she knows what THIS means as well, but she’s dedicated. Uncle Geralt is going to give her lots of sweets.
Ferrant resists the urge to start swearing himself. Of course Julian’s bastard - the longer he spends with her, the more he’s certain she must belong to his cousin - would know how to swear. Very well, two can play at this game. “Would you like to visit the prison with me?” he asks. He has an informant he needs to meet, and, well, Angouleme is either going to enjoy the trip or be traumatized.

“Julian,” he says, “I’ve asked you not to make so much noise.” He’s trying to focus, as it were, and his cousin is still plucking his lute and yammering on. Ordinarily he doesn’t mind - he finds Julian’s voice to be rather pleasant - but he owes reports and hasn’t the time.
