Wow! What an amazing day!  Our class was able to get a tour of the entire Wrigley Field Stadium!  This was by far the best day of class.  The day started off by us having lunch at The Brickhouse. This was nice as the entire class was able to sit down together outside the classroom setting and socialize. Bonding experiences like this are always one to remember.  After lunch, we headed over to the stadium to embark on our very own personal tour of the stadium.  We were able to see the old visitor locker room, the news reporter box, and the dugout (see above pictures).  After this tour, we had an amazing opportunity to visit the business building of the cubs. This is where we meet Brad who works in Marketing for the Cubs. He was able to fill us in on the plans for the Wrigley Stadium.  To make it short, they plan on upgrading the facilities! They will be getting new stadium chairs, creating new lounges, and upgrading all of their suites.  The future for the Cubs are bright indeed!!

Day 4 of 5, Loyola Chicago

Though I wasn’t able to capture the best pictures, I still had an amazing time at Loyola Chicago! We had the amazing opportunity of speaking with Bill Behrns, Assistant Athletic Director of Communications. Bill’s talk with us was quite informal given they were in the final four for basketball this past year.  He was able to explain in detail his exact thoughts and emotions about the entire process.  He said that he was super excited to advance to the final four because it was completely unrealistic to consider that possible.  As for next year, he doesn’t want to be too hopeful that they will make it to the final four. He is more focused on the team and their progression, the teams sponsorships, and the teams college community.  

Since making it to the final four, Bill says that since the month of March, the teams Twitter page increased its followers by 21 thousand people, 4000 on social media, 1000 more website views, 1.64 billion of media add value, and 64 billion media impressions.

Day 3 of 5, University of Illinois at Chicago

Today was a great day!  If you have never been out to the UIC Campus, I suggest you go! It is beautiful!!

Today we ventured out to UIC to speak with Ryan, the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports, and Kyle,  the Assistant Athletic Director of Tickets and Fan Development!  This was an interesting talk as they are going through a few changes on campus.  Within in the last year a new Athletic Director has been placed on their campus.  The previous director had been there for 22 years so this was a big change for them.  Ryan and Kyle are currently trying to adjust from the way things use to be done to the way things are going to be.  They are both excited for this change as they feel they are helping to make the new changes.  

Ryan was asked, “What has been the biggest transformation since the change in leadership?” and his response was, “The largest transformation is focusing on preparing student athletes for post graduation fame. We want our graduates to be involved with sports not in while in college but after college as well. 

Kyle was asked about his favorite part of the change and his response was, “My favorite part of the new regime is having a leader who is willing and open to listen to new ideas.”  He went on to talk about how they now have theme nights at their games and it has lead to larger crowds and more participation.

Day 1 of 5, Amy Potter

Today we had the amazing opportunity to connect with Amy Potter of BMO Financial Group! Her outgoing personality along with determination and her willingness to be successful has lead Amy to having the dream job she has always wished for.  In the hour that our class met with her, I learned some pretty concrete things about what I need to be doing in order to be successful like her.  The two points that stood out to me most is that people in this 24/7 industry HAVE to make time for themselves and they HAVE to understand that the answer isn’t always going to be “yes.”  

In this industry, we are constantly moving.  We don’t work the standard Monday - Friday 9 - 5:30 job and for most of us, that is okay.  With that being said, so many of us are working weekends and holidays which causes us to miss weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and vacations.  While listening to Amy, I was reminded to make time for myself.  I can’t allow myself to get caught so caught up with work that I am forgetting to take “me time.”  

I also learned from Amy that while working in this industry, you are going to hear “no” and that’s okay.  Now, this is isn’t the type of “no” like “Can I go to the bathroom?” or “Can I take a lunch?” This is more of a “no” like “Can I have a promotion?” or “Can I go on this business trip?”  Sometimes we have to push ourselves in order to prove ourselves and you know what, IT IS OKAY TO KEEP ASKING!! Your employer may think that you aren’t ready to move on or to excel.  It is your job to put in that work in order for that employer to see that you are indeed ready.

As previously mentioned, I really enjoyed meeting with Amy.  I was able to look at the word “no” in a new light and I was also reminded to take some time for myself.

First Day @ Roosevelt University (Downtown)

Day 1 of 5 is what I would call the ice breaker day.  Everyone is nervous about the class and everyone is wondering if we are going to have a “cool” teacher or not. Fortunately, this class has turned out to be my favorite class so far this semester.
