Fireproof Faith

I have faith, but not in what you'd guess. My faith knows this isn't my first or last life. My faith knows this life's lessons will appear and appear again and again, until I learn. My faith knows there is no such thing as a coincidence. My faith knows all religions are a way to God. My faith knows the buffets of spirituality is wanting and plentiful. My faith knows that my parents, my spouse, my maybe children planned this life long ago. My faith knows people are innately good, but forget this fact. My faith knows people can change, and they are never truly gone. My faith is fireproof a hearth stoked and remembered, but never too hot or catching - I don't believe in preaching, beyond this poem at least.

Reborn in Hot Baths

It was a hard week.

I cope with a lobster bath

and steaming my old bones,

so a new skeleton emerges

to tackle another a week.

Luck of a Ladybug

Skinned knees,

invisible friends,

four leaf clovers,

buttercup butterflies,

and ladybugs made nature

synonymous with magic....

for a few years anyways.

Skin

A chaffing shackle to my vastness of being, a container to my soul's hunger. A judgment that Garcia is my married name, and not my birthright before vows. An organ to be controlled by mother and husband to be pure and unblemished. A crusade of expression to explore with adornments silver and ink - unafraid. A consideration of care bring new life and memories in gifts from beyond the grave.

A book of possibilities from Sci-Fi and Fantasy sleeves to geriatric pregnancy or post-mortem donations and future scars showcasing (mis)adventures A maybe of nothing. A maybe of everything. A certainty of I am my own.

My heart hangs heavy with all those who don't get the point of life: Be kind.

Ancient Conversations

Sometimes I forget the ancient conversations I've had with my body. Not about its brokenness obesity, or misalignment, but of the one where we first met. Where we chatted about this particular life's journey and what this body would help me - me, me - my soul - learn this time around. That all the imperfections and difficulties and injuries are part of my soul's growth: planned purpose pursued.

I am the villain, The Dark Empath, with surgical precision I could unmake you.

I see your faults, insecurities and fears in your stance words and surety.

You are lucky I choose to use my powers for good, instead of turning you inside out and reading you to filth.

But your aura is burnt into my eyes and I know your soul's muddy colors.

All the things you try to hide. How easily I could push on pressure points to create chaos and you would have no idea. Those who are kindest most empathetic; often see both the light and dark. Again, you are a lucky - I choose to focus only on the light. For now...

Bon Appetite

What if in the future there is no more meat to eat? Instead of embracing plants, Big Corporations with no green style, decided to ethically grow human meat. "Nutrients delivered and dined." Just don't think too hard about it. Until One offers "revenge," but this "dish is best served warm," advertising: "Eat your Enemies!" "Send us some DNA, We'll send you dinner!" "Hannibal the Cannibal had the right idea, it's perfect "...with a side of fava beans and nice Chianti."

Carrie 2.0

A high school nerd: Honors, AP, Theater, Key Club, NHS, Sierra Club, Academic Decathlon, Volunteer Gay Straight Alliance President, so on and so on. How then, am I nominated for Homecoming Queen? A Queen for the Outcasts and Nerds? Homecoming Court and Duties are odd. My counterparts - the court falls fervent for royalty. I just want to go back to class. Tours, photos, staging..... The cheerleaders all know one another but I am not one of them: Wispy hair, no makeup, yellow teeth, the biggest one, thrift clothes, clown feet.

They look, as Janis Ian said best, PLASTIC - i.e., PERFECT. I look more like Morticia Addams were stung by a bee with a dash of Delirium. They mock me in whispers and giggles. I cry to an English Teacher who calls them all "Bitches." It shocks me. In 4 years, I have never heard a teacher swore. This is the point of the story, I pull up my big girl panties. I grab the pig's blood. and I... Wake up from a memory, of what I should have done instead of being complacent. I did not win. There was no fire. No blood. No Telekinesis. There was a football field, Ferraris, and fretful femmes. I just played my part and moved on - realizing only after that maybe it wasn't a joke and my nomination was a symbol of hope. In the end, I think it was really an honor being nominated.

Too much?

I am too disorganized which makes my team sweat and stressed. I am too fat which makes my wife worried and concerned. I am too self-loathing which makes my therapist nervous and anxious. I am too giving which makes my friends annoyed and frustrated. I am too literal which makes my peers irate and irked. I am too verbose which makes followers bored and unmoved. I am too much which makes me stutter and stop.

In a blink, you can become your worst nightmare. Spouting lines you don't believe in, Because you have become part of the hive mind without know it.

The color is Blue

Blue is the color of the world

Of our small marble in the Milky Way collection

Of the mirrored depths of water and sky

Of blue geodes that resemble the Cookie Monster

Of rains that grow and destroy man and metropolis

Blue is the color of fairy tales

Of a bearded man addicted to beheading wives

Of sleeping beauty's colorful dress

Of fairies or wishing stars that bring life

Of birds that are really princes

Blue is the color of fear

Of choking that make you a chameleon

Of freezing cold that leads to Dinner Donner Parties

Of teasing sexual tension never released

Of two little lines on a stick that rewrite your story

Blue is the color of dreams

Of blueberries growing back neurons after a stroke

Of first place ribbons for pies, spelling or beauty

Of little check marks and influencer fame

Of the son to carry on the family name

Blue is the color of insidiousness

Of screen lights, digital joy for bodily harm

Of ICEy sirens that bring (dis)order and (dis)honor

Of blue gloves administering Narcan for blue drugs

Of a father's favorite beer, Fosters.

Blue is the sixth color.

Sword and Shield

My wife describes me as a shield. A protector. The one that makes all feel safe. A supporter. A blocker. She doesn't mean it as an insult. Oh, but how this shield wishes to be a sword. Intimidating. Quick, threatening, scary A knight. Can I be a knight without a sword? Can I be truly a protector without a sword? -------- Then I think of Desmond Doss of Hacksaw Ridge, without a "sword" how much good can be done with only a shield.
