London also known as Londinium is the capital city of England & the United
Kingdom. Is the largest metropolitan city of United Kingdom. Located on the river Thames, London has a recorded history back to more than 2000 years old. Later on in the time of British Empire, London entered 20th century as the capital of the largest empire in the history, but with the new century, the wars (likely the World War I & II) brought more difficulty & challenges for them. During the World War I London experience its first aerial raid by Germany killing 700 people, but it was only a trailer for what was to come as a result of the two World Wars. During that time London experiences its first & largest explosion the Silver town explosion killing 73 & injuring 400.
During World War II London suffered heavy damage & great loss of lives, the worst hit being at the Docks land area. By the time of end of the war 30,000 people lost their life & 50,000 severely injured. Hundreds of thousand people were left homeless & infrastructure of millions dollars were lost.
Three year after the World War London had just started rebuilding itself slowly; however the festival of Britain in 1951 filled people with optimistic feeling & people start looking towards the future & not the past.
At the turn of 21st century, London hosted the much derived Millennium Dome at Greenwich to mark the new century. One of the largest observation wheels in the world, the "Millennium Wheel", or the London Eye, which was erected as a temporary structure, but soon became a fixture, and draws four million visitors a year.
London has changed over & over from its creation as Londinium by Romans to the Norman & medieval London, to the recreated Tudor London to the London in 19th century to now. The place has both the monuments from history to modern world place has modernised, people have modernised but the values are the same.
