What's it like living your best life and seeing all this relationship mess with everyone else?
"I know, I'm such an unproblematic queen right now. I am loving all this drama, though. It's like replaced soap operas for me. Val and I talk about it over our night caps all the time. Some juicy goss going down these days. Spicy spicy."

The lips against her neck only solidifies the feelings Val was becoming aware of in her chest. The gesture is so entirely Ember. Valerii's lashes remain tightly closed for a long moment as she drinks in the kiss. Her hand falls to the back of Ember's neck and her fingers massage the areas. "I've always loved your nose." The corner of her lip turned upward. "Reminds me of a cute little bunny." She'd always wanted one, but Val had imagined it having more fur and less human-like features than the woman in front of her.
Her focus returns to Ember's long hair and lathering a floral shampoo into it. "I think you should stay with me for a little while." Because it felt just the smallest bit safer to have Ember hidden here out of sight and out of mind in case Sada decided to finish the Wexley line once and for all. It didn't feel like she should be alone right now anyway. "--Or Ziggy and Beau, if that's better." Valerii included the second option to give Ember an out if her offer was too much ( if ember decided to stop pretending valerii was the right person to support her right now ).
She gently scratches her nails against Ember's scalp and meets her gaze for a moment. "I don't know if things are going to get better any time soon." There was a very real possibility that her father's death was just the beginning of Sada's reign of terror.
Scrunching up that same nose when it's mentioned, Ember basks in the warmth that was blooming in her chest as if the heat from the water was seeping inside her, radiating from Val to herself. She wasn't so alone, and she did have someone who cared. Val had come and lifted her from the abyss, or at least started the process. This strong, beautiful woman, looking at her like that... it softened the sharp edges if her guilt just enough to stop the bleed inside.
"What?" The Request catches her so off guard that the words take a second to truly register and Ember is left starting at her lover with affectionate surprise. "With you?" Shaking her head to stifle the idea that she'd rather stay anywhere but here, with her. Beau and Ziggy had enough to deal with and really, this was where she wanted to be.
"I know." There's conviction in her words enough to make it clear she did know and expect that the worst was yet to come. "We can grab Hugs and some of my things later... I'm not going anywhere. I want to be here... with you." Lifting her head enough to connect their gaze, Ember smiles softly at her brunette counter part, brushing some of the wet hair from off her forehead.
"I think I almost forgot how to feel... but you make my heart beat again. You-... you make it flutter."
"Oh man, you're a mess."
No shit, Sherlock. Knox wasn't even sure what to think about her other than that she was drunk and her making zero sense made perfect sense. He sighed. What kind of soap opera had he and Petronella dragged themselves into?
Surprisingly, this drunk and broken soul wasn't a bad source of information. Many people had died, probably her friends and family judging by the way she described that. It had to be something recent, something unexpected, maybe it even had something to do with the female version of Auron.
What else could this embodiment of sadness tell him if he showed some empathy?
"No, don't be sorry. Sit down-," he patted the seat next to him, "-and let's talk. No one should be alone when their heart is broken, right?"
Lowering down to join him, Ember sighed as she plopped into the open sweat with a little huff and a 'thank you' under her breath, eyes looking over at this new person. This one of them that had come and invaded their home. He seemed nice enough despite his lack of style, but that didn't mean she really wanted to open up to him, no matter what her little outburst had made it seem like.
"More than broken... it's more like dead in my chest. I just wish things could go back to the way they were a week ago." Who would have thought that she'd be missing a time earlier in the apocalypse, rather than before it at all.
"You're one of Sada's people, aren't you?"
He was thankful for Ember taking the joint away from him and a supportive hand on his back, that one hit was probably enough nor did he really want another in the moment. But Ember looked so happy about it, the excitement spilling over though he wished it was infectious enough to influence him. But sudden reminder as he coughed that he had been infected, the delayed response making it harder to even determine if it was truly the vaccine given to him. Val was sure of it, and so Ashton didn't bring up that worry to Ember, but he can't hide the puncture wound on his neck. The hit was starting to weight him down like a blanket though, with not even the capacity to let the anxiety creep in right now, drowning out his worries, and only being able to focus on one thing at a time, and right now it's the conversation at hand.
"Most people aren't supposed to know the work that we do. When not at war, we're usually working to prevent wars," Ashton explained, while having been deployed on all phases from preventing, to in war zones, to post rebuilding efforts, none of them were easier than the other. He slowly narrowed his gaze, mind slowing down as he caught up with her words, "is that what you guys are calling me? Star Man?" Could've picked a better name but amusing all the same. "I try... not to talk about my past." Only a handful of people really knew anything about his time in the marines. He almost snorted at Ember's following question, "as far as I know, no. But I wasn't there." Giving her an opening to speculate though he was pretty sure of the answer. A chuckle rumbled lightly as he pointedly added on, as if knowing her next question, "and yes, the moon landing was real." He would've kicked Ember out of his class if she was a student of his and asked him that. "And what do you think?"
"Prevent wars. That's pretty cool, though. Like super important stuff." Had she ever done anything important? There was that one time she'd distracted that European dictator in like Genovia or something so he could be assassinated, but that had mostly been an accident, and it had mean that she could get home. Of course it'd also meant that there had been no need for a civil war there, but that hadn't really been her concern at the time.
"I mean I don't know about everyone but it's definitely what I call you." Grin lazy but amused, she refused to speak on his condition, knowing neither of them was much in the shape for hard or painful conversations. That was for another time, when they both were stronger, when the world was maybe not so scary anymore.
"Of course the moon landing was real, I think that would be so hard to fake. I never really thought about any of that stuff before now. The only one that ever really stuck with me was the birds being drones one, mostly because it's so funny." Giggles bubbling up, there was very little attempt from her to stem them. "You ever hear that one? That birds aren't real?"
