Clay faces painted white and ready to attach to bodies
Drawing and painting progress check: More zine pages! Ready to be scanned. Plus the completed 22 page spread of book 1 clipped together at the end. Almost done with all three books, then I'll get them printed.
Sculpture progress check 3 Every individual part is sewn together, now I need to invert them, stuff the appendages and assemble them.
DRAWING AND PAINTING HALFWAY CHECK New zine pages.... I'm a little behind but mostly because I've been working on my other 20 hours so the equilibrium will be set back equal soon... Also I don't have a lot of other schoolwork. Colours will be digital paint (fast n cheap) This makes a total of 17 pages which is a good amount for halfway I think.
SCULPTURE PROGRESS CHECK 2:
As shown above I have cut out all of the patterns from the fabric that I have purchased and begun to sew them together into little creatures. I hope that nothing goes wrong as I don’t have any backup fabric. i also intend to finish the porcelain faces soon but I keep forgetting to get the clay... I’m not too worried though
SCULPTURE PRINT FRESS
DRAWING AND PAINTING CHECK 1 I scanned all of these in on the school scanner but I forgot my USB drive so I'll upload better pictures tomorrow. Everything without color is going to be colored digitally or remain as lineart. I'm almost done with the February part of the zine. The theme is pink and relationships.
1. Briefly describe your project.
I want to make a zine, one small book a month, with autobiographical/ personal narrative work and other things like how-tos and recipes. It would be mostly illustrations with some multimedia like collage and embroidered work.
2. What is your starting point/source material? (What are you thinking about? What are you interested in? What sparked your interest?)
It’s sort of like a snapshot of the last couple of months of my time at Northside. I’ve been keeping a journal and I like the idea of having a journal that is somewhat public? Putting yourself out there hoping someone else will relate and maybe they’ll feel better too.
3. What painting or drawing style is best suited for your project? Why?
I think that I’ll be using a variety of painting and drawing styles, mostly just what comes naturally to me because a lot of it will be catharsis but also experimenting with different styles and techniques for fun because the thing tying everything together is that it’s about me.
4. What mood are you trying to create in your artwork? How will you create it (what color, material, technique, and compositional choices will reflect this mood?)
I want to reflect how I’m feeling at the time that I make it! I’ve been feeling very cool colours, very cool pink and purple and deep blue. Teenage years are kind of dark but vivid, or they’re faded and pale like memories and I want to reflect that in colour choice.
5. How could your project be more of a question than an answer? Or how is your current idea more of a question than an answer?
Because it’s sort of a personal project nothing is spelled out exactly… As in I am not willing to discuss specific problems or ordeals that my friends or I have gone through, even if it’s pertinent because having privacy is powerful. But cathartic artwork can hint at problems, and I think it’s more interesting that way anyway.
6. How could your project be more subtle? Or what project would just barely change or reinterpret your starting point?
Originally I was going to do a bunch of autobiographical comics about la Brewer vie quotidian but then I decided that although that might be fun for me no one really cares… So I changed my project to be more varied and subtle in terms of its autobiographical elements.
7. Pick two of the following to explore-- How could your project be: sillier, more critical, more celebratory, more serious, more mysterious, more boring, more fun, less fun, or more abstract?
More critical: I wanted to steer clear of any political affiliation in this zine just because I wanted it to be fun, but because a lot of my work is probably going to be about women I could incorporate a feminist angle to some of it.
More mysterious: I tend to rely on text pretty heavily in my work to convey meaning when it involved personal narrative, so I could try to avoid use of text or cut out use of text entirely to make things more open to interpretation.
CALENDAR:
I aim to create one book per month remaining of the school year, compiling the pages on the first of the month proceeding so:
march 1: COMPILE ALL PAGES FOR FEBRUARY BOOK
march 9: print test zine for february pages
march 30: COMPILE ALL PAGES FOR MARCH BOOK
april 1: print zines for march... it's ok if they're a different style or material than february
april 27th: COMPILE ALL PAGES FOR APRIL BOOK
may 1: print zines for april
may 15: COMPILE ALL PAGES FOR MAY BOOK
finished models! just need another coat of paint.
Completed first dream sequence for my animation
Redone maquettes in paper clay and a sad little cracked mushroom guy. Sculpting in marblex is easier but paperclay won't crack so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Storyboards part 2
So i finished a bunch of storyboards!! But they're taking a real long time. I feel like if i have a couple more days i can finish them. I'm not really liking the way that the first couple boards look so i'm thinking I'll redo them. I want to put these all together in an animatic with voices and sound!!
Storyboards pt 1
The clay on my last armatures cracked so I made new ones plus redesigned three of the characters and did the layouts for their paintings
sculpture
PROGRESS CHECK 2: first set of storyboards
I want there to be an element of mystery in all of them, short clippings that don't make sense.
the other concepts:
You are walking down a long hallway, a baby is crying in a crib at the end of the hallway, the hallway is soothing light lavender.
You are creeping through the woods. You make out the shape of a group of people. They are wearing metallic KKK hoods, they shoot you in the chest.
You are swimming in the ocean, there is a huge brick wall just out of site.
Burying an elephant shrew in a tiny tiny graveyard.
You are watching a little girl, she is wearing a victorian schoolgirl dress, she is running through the woods, there are helicopters overhead.
Look into the sky, the clouds are amassed in a spherical clump, no matter from what side you’re looking
PROGRESS CHECK 2: here's a lil taster animatic
