A lot of people have pointed out this line implies that the previous Golden Guard had magic, unlike Hunter. At first, I wasn’t so sure. I thought that, perhaps, the previous Golden Guards didn’t have magic either but simply hid that fact. After all, they’re the clone of a human and/or being a Grimwalker renders them unable to use bile sac magic, so why would they have magic when Hunter wouldn’t?

But then I had the thought:

What if Belos didn't create Hunter with magic because the previous Golden Guard(s) used magic against him?

The use of predecessorS specifically from Darius makes me think ALL previous Golden Guards may have had magic of some form, and that it was only very recently that a Grimwalker was made without magic...

Perhaps because the last one managed to do something so disastrous, Belos saw it fit for them to have no magic anymore.

so, is the reason Belos could possess Hunter because Hunter is a Grimwalker (a reanimated dead thing, much like the bones/dead bodies Belos kept inhabiting)?

the more i think about Hunter’s introduction scene the more bonkers it is

first of all, his comment about none of them having powers? yeah, NONE of them had powers, himself included, which is ironic and funny

but also, he told them the Boiling Sea’s steam would give them third degree burns (basically killing them), BUT HE LITERALLY JUST ROSE FROM THE SEA HIMSELF AND DID NOT QUESTION WHY HE HAD NO BURNS?

No harm no foul but something rubs me the wrong way about the implications of a kid being "so psychopathic" that their guardian "had" to kill him... Guardians killing their mentally ill charges claiming they "had to" for one reason or another is a serious issue that should be considered more thoughtfully, nevermind Belos already using the excuse that he "had to" kill other golden guards in general, using the excuse of them being traitors. There are more compelling prompts for analyzing the effects of Belos' abuse producing unwelcome results other than treating people with psychopathy as inherently harmful.

I am aware! Not all psychopathic people are deranged heartless murderers. It's a mental health issue the same as ADHD or BPD. People who are psychopathic came in many varieties, the same as everyone else. That being said, psychopathy is still generally characterized and defined with violent behavior, which is what I was aiming for when using the word as a descriptor rather than implying the Grimwalker had psychopathism.

The "had to" is because it's Belos, and Belos always "has to" kill his charges because they're just never good enough for him. In this instance, it's because Belos is afraid of the Grimwalker, and that's his "has to" reasoning. The fact that this Grimwalker is genuinely dangerous and a serial killer is irrelevant to him - it's more so that it's not "in his control" so to speak.

In real life, people, especially guardians/parents, should not harm or kill their charges/kids even if they are displaying harmful behavior to others. Measures should be taken before that - therapy, professional help, instilling morality lessons in them, or, if it's an instance of something akin to serious harm/ill-intent, call the police or another agency. It should only been in self-defense that one harms, or kills, another. And rest assured Belos's was definitely not in self-defense. He's just as evil as the deranged Grimwalker, just in a different direction. I mean, he planned genocide and committed filicide repeatedly. Arguably, he's the more deranged one than the hypothetical unstable Grimwalker.

I'd also like to state that there have been instances of people who are very much deranged and unhelpable, no matter WHAT people do. Sometimes life is cruel and unfair that way, and it's sad to see people so cruel yet so unsavable.
