Vince watched her with a smirk. "Oh? Hey, that's the challenge," he laughed, playing with the ball in his hands. "Well, summer just kicked off and I'm feeling generous. Besides, the tiki bar looks very fancy this year," he grinned. "I can't complain!" he said, playfully tossing the ball towards her. "Or we can just see how long it takes before the ball gets lost somewhere on the beach or ends up in the water,"

"Can't say I disagree," she chimed in, toeing off her sandals next to her things before jogging backwards down in the direction of an emptier stretch of beach. "Hear they've got new drinks this year — kinda dying to give 'em a try." Both arms came up as the ball came in her direction, hands poised to tip the ball back in his direction. "We could, only if you're afraid that I'm going to smoke you." Emerson's lips gave weight to the playful, challenging grin dying to surface.

"Oh, you take such good care of me. Now, I have to find an Etsy witch of my own to make sure at the very least your birthday that's coming up is the BEST one yet," they start to properly pack up their things with a swiftness as making both Dolly and Em wait at this point would be criminal. Her words were correct, they were too alike for their own good, Ivy grateful that they were magnets who did not repel each other. Grateful even more than after everything they'd been through, they could still walk side by side -- open to the journey itself. When the loss of all that Ivy had gone through threatened to take them under, they saw Emerson, having gone through things that would've made them crumble. Emerson made them brave, in return, they stayed brave.

Walk Ivy does through the door, "oh so this is a rescue mission. We actually need that Etsy witch to curse Mr. Wallace's ass out of Merrock's bounds. We could get some salt, too. Maybe even holy water because he sounds like an Emotional Energy & Fry Vampire. Which as we know is the most DANGEROUS thing." They wave at the actual receptionist who'd been a bystander to their conversation, having headphones in ear, waving back both at Ivy and Emerson. "Vinegar is kind of a miracle substance, isn't it? You know who invented it? Or has Big Vinegar been around since the Dark Ages?"

It's whenever she's with Ivy that she even notices she has an uneven smile, teeth just barely ranging in their size — it's always evident in any pictures they take, the way that Ivy makes her smile. Feel pounds lighter, far beyond a planet with a force of gravity could ever have a grip on. "'Course it's a rescue mission. Any time Wallace is unleashed on the public, we're reduced to civil servants." Her fingers flick up in a similar wave to the receptionist, the two of them stepping back out into a balmy evening.

One of her hands comes up to press fingers into her own temple, the slow circle of a massage aiding them for only seconds before throwing the driver's side door open. "No," she quickly shoots down. "We cannot spiral down this rabbit hole. First it's 'who invented vinegar' and then, we'll end up in New Brunswick because we got too heated about who decided letters should go next to each other in certain words. Vinegar was... just there. At least for our intents and purposes." She slides into the car, waiting for the shut of the door and click of seatbelt before she backs out of the parking lot. "Real question is," she continues with a small laugh. "How are either one of us meant to get our hands on holy water? I'm pretty sure if I stepped in any sort of religious building, I'd go up in flames before both feet crossed the threshold."

WHERE: Carnival

WHEN: July, 2025

While not really one for most carnival rides, Nari would always make an exception for the carousel. (Besides, what could go wrong?) She found herself taking the tickets from the booth as they were held out for her with a friendly smile, turning to head towards the line... and nearly bumping into the person heading in the same way. Letting out a laugh, she reached out to steady them -- or possibly herself -- before offering an apologetic smile. "You in a hurry for the carousel, too, I take it?"

"That obvious?" Emerson asked, color flushing into her cheeks the slightest bit. Her hand had risen to clutch Nari right back, a joint effort of stabilizing themselves in whatever beeline each of them had established and gotten tangled in. With the gentlest of squeezes, she released her arm, Emerson letting her hand fall back by her side as she fell into step. "Maybe it's a little selfish, but if you don't time it right, all the kids get the good ones and leave you stuck with the immobile ones — or worse, the ones that make all the screeching noises. Swear one year I saw sparks."

"Is anything in the cloud ever really deleted?" Nicki mused. He squinted up at her, with a lopsided smirk on his face. What good was it having friends if you couldn't tease them a little. At most anything he captured would be spread among their social circle for a good laugh. He dug his toes into the sand, shaking his head at her fatalism. "Sorry to break this to you sweets - I've seen a seven-year-old shred some waves. But I guess I'm up for a challenge." He gestured at her to have a seat on her board. "Let's start with your head since it seems like it might need the most work," he gave her another smirk. "What are you afraid of?"

"That's cold. Cold." Her eyes, despite their narrow squint, gave way to the mirthful glimmer in them. In her book the pictures were always worth the good laugh, especially when the memory tied to it was one worth recounting. Emerson huffed in the slightest of pouts at that, shoulders slouching. "Even the seven year olds? You sure they're not like... given an advantage with an automatic surf board or something?" She followed suit of the gesture, dropping down unceremoniously onto the board and crossing her legs. That question was certainly a loaded one. "Not sure," she found herself humming, staring into the small divots into the sand that her footprints had made. "I mean, I lifeguarded for how many summers? I know these waters, I know how to swim. If a shark comes up to me, I'm gonna attempt the befriending process before freaking out. My balance isn't that shit I don't think. I guess it's the whole perfect storm of factors that keep me upright on that board for more than a millisecond that I'm having skepticism about."

"I think you could choose something a little less extreme than 'helicopter' as your alternate option," she replied as she tilted her head towards Emerson. Jasmine looked back up at the ride, letting out a deep exhale to calm the nerves she had just from looking at the thing. "Nah, I'm perfectly fine with the view from down here." She shook her head and fully put her focus on Emerson. "Feels a lot safer than getting on something that gets taken apart and put back together every few days."

"Touché," Emerson conceded, the sentiment echoed in the acknowledging tip of her own head in Jasmine's direction. "The whole easy assemble-dissemble thing swings both ways, I guess — on one hand, they do it enough that they know how to do it right, but the other hand..." She trailed off, letting the unsaid fill the space between them. Her lips tightened a bit, pushing up the edges into a smile. "Is there anything else here that passes the safety test?"

The place was certainly busy, which Stelly had been expecting -- people in Merrock liked to eat. On a normal, average day, absolutely. But on a day where you could get something different, something special? Even more so. Finally, they were down to two orders, Stelly's and Emerson's, and it only took Stelly getting to their table, sitting down, and stabbing the form into the loaded fries ... to realize that they were not their fries, narrowing their eyes a little bit and sitting back in the seat. "Shoot," they mumbled, before recognizing the other person waiting and feeling a little relief. "Emerson," they called out, already making their way back to the counter, "are these yours, by any chance?"

It seemed like the real case of the missing fries — granted, & Chips was at the highest capacity she'd seen it since last year's French Fry Day, but the star of the show randomly disappearing on her? Emerson stood near the counter, back resting against the wall as to not be in the way of the dozens of others getting their orders. She'd say something in a minute, she reckoned with herself. She knew what it was like to be running a busy counter, on a busy day; she empathized, she did, but god, she was starving. Right about the time she'd pulled herself off the wall, gearing up to say something, a voice caught her attention. Stelly coming up towards her with her beloved fries. "Ding ding ding — got yourself a winner, Carter." She smiled at Stelly cheekily, teasing lilt in her voice. "Although, if you wanted to trade places for a day and be me, 'ya coulda just asked."

WHERE: The Swim Beach in the food trucks WHO: Hadi and your character WHEN: Mid-afternoon or any time that works @merrock

Hadi had been putting a lot of work into the pastry he was debuting at the corner tent. They didn't have a food truck set up yet for Cherry Amour but there was no waiting around so far as he was concerned. The intention was to have it be red, white and blue stripes but there was a problem with it being hot despite being in the shade. He was really focused and not wanting to look away from the swirl of icing he put atop the mini cupcake. "Go ahead and have a look around," Hadi said when a shadow fell across his way. "I've got more than just this done, but if you want one of these it'll be a bit of a wait." Hadi gave an apologetic smile because he couldn't turn his attention away yet.

"Oh, I dunno, I think I'm invested now in this lil' guy. Would just feel blasphemous if I went with something else." She pushed her sunglasses up off the bridge of her nose and onto her head, some of the wispy flyaways swept away with them. As much good food promised, there was always room for something sweet. Especially when that something sweet had buttercream frosting. "How long you been out here?" Emerson asked, eyes tracking Hadi's methodically perfect swirl of icing on top of the cupcake.

"Okay, who's up for a game of volleyball?" Vince asked, tossing the ball up in the air and catching it with a smile. He glanced over at the other person across from him. Getting a little competitive was going to be fun--and it wasn't sunset yet, but it was still light out enough for them to keep playing in the sand. He had attempted to go surfing that morning and still probably had his hair sticking up all over. "We could toss the ball, hitting it back and forth, then grab some drinks after?" he offered. "Or... if you wanna get more competitive, actually setting up the net and play for points. Loser has to buy drinks."

Unfortunately for Emerson — and anyone who'd ever threatened her with a good time — she didn't know how to back down from a challenge. Those few little words were akin to gunpowder in a keg, sparking up with just the slightest bit of friction. "Oh, c'mon," she laughed, motioning for the ball. "First option is for people who know they're gonna lose. Unless your wallet really is just dying to see some action over at the bar?" Both her eyebrows lifted in invitation, the eager smile on her face letting Vince know exactly where she stood.

Briseis had begged and pleaded with both Brodi and Radley to be here. Radley gave in easily, anything for his girl, Brodi needed convincing. Radley promised him a new pair of brand-named shoes. (Please don't let it be Jordans...)

So here he was, sitting under an umbrella with a yeti full of beer and more in the cooler. The warm sand felt good on his aching feet, the texture somewhat soothing and nostalgic as he played unofficial lifeguard for the twins and the friends they made.

The soft crashing of the waves kissing the beach had him relaxed in his beach chair, his eyes covered by rayban sunglasses, making him look more stoic and grumpy than usual.

He had been day dreaming, lost in thought that he hadn't even realized someone had walked up to him and they were talking. Shit. "Uh, yeah, go ahead, you could have one." He said, gesturing to his cooler.

"Bun— fuck, Bunny," Emerson swore under her breath, trying to keep up with the black-and-white blur galloping ahead of her and straining to go much faster than she and the leash could carry them. Her ulterior motives of wearing her dog out prior to the fireworks celebration was fully underway, and to her calves' chagrin, Bunny was hellbent on fulfilling that mission. The Australian Shepherd slowed, glancing back at Emerson as if to say you're the one who wanted this.

So much personality in one body. If she didn't love her dearly, the sass of a dog would be the end of her.

"You better sleep so good tonight, girl," she muttered as Bunny slowed to a trot, sniffing her way through the sand and wandering up to complete strangers who dared shoot her a smile ( or worse, those who ignored her ) — case in point, Radley underneath his umbrella.

She hadn't half realized that he was partially listening to her ramble on to her dog, something like an apologetic smile curling over her lips as blue eyes snapped up to him. "Ain't gotta part with one if you don't want to — although, seems like she's willing to take you up on the offer," she amended, in reference to the way Bunny had sidled right up next to him and her head tilted to the side, almost expectant in the way she waited for something. "The kids out here too?"

Nicki laughed, his toes digging into the sand. "And skip out on all the embarrassing photos I'm about to get-" he shook his head, "not a chance." He was naturally graceful with what his grandmother had deemed 'dancer's feet'. That paired with the confidence of a teenager had made learning to surf rather easy. He wasn't an expert, he'd never be great, but it was a sweet bit of fun during the hot months. "So tell me-" he plopped down on his own purple board, "what's the problem? Mental block? Balance?"

She couldn't help the roll of her eyes, a playful scoff brushing past her lips as she pointed her index finger at him. "Those pictures will be deleted faster than you've got time to say wipeout." Emerson lifted one of her feet, toes idly rubbing against the surface of the board. Really, something like this should've been in her wheelhouse, as much time as she'd spent down at the ocean during her younger years. It had been a near fight to keep her out of the ocean when they'd moved, and lifeguarding had only been a natural next step for her ( still one of the best jobs she'd ever had ) but surfing felt unattainable. "All of the above?" She shrugged. "Or maybe it's a proportion issue. Maybe I am always destined to be on the boogie board with my fellow seven year olds."

Jasmine held her gaze upwards at the Ferris wheel that towered over the carnival. Seeing it wearing its 'magical' twinkling lights in the dark didn't make the idea of riding it feel any less daunting. "Don't tell me you actually want to get on that thing," she said to the next person getting into the queue.

"I think want is a very, very strong word," Emerson admitted with a small laugh, her eyes trailing up the height of the Ferris wheel. "Want to get on something that's probably a little too old and rickety for its old good? Not exactly, but no other way to enjoy the view of everything than to suck it up and hop on. That, or get on a helicopter in the dark, and that sounds even worse." She glanced back over at Jaz. "You contemplating it?"

"A riveting time of payroll? Ugh, how did you know that that I just finished up the same thing," the grin on Ivy's lips matches Emerson's then, they easily get up from their post at reception ( as it was way past time to leave the dispensary anyways ) and leave their things behind the way that they were. "Let freedom and french fries RING! Do you want anything before we head out? I'm not gonna lie, I think we might need to skidaddle to the carnival before someone eats all the french fries. They really don't make 'em like this all year round and we have to get our fill."

"Oh, I didn't tell you? I hired an Etsy witch to help me give me a sixth sense for whenever you're in need of rescuing. Don't know if it worked or if it's just the fact we're too alike for our own good." Her grin isn't shadowed by the wave of her hand in dismissal. "Nah — still working my way through last week's fill up. Besides, Dolly's out front running with her A/C blaring."

Emerson suppresses a groan, fighting the urge to pinch the bridge of her nose. "That someone being Mr. Wallace," she draws out. "Since I'm closed for the night, I just know he's on the prowl taking advantage of some teenager working that stand, telling 'em that they still haven't brought out his fries even though they've given him three rounds already. He oughta know by now that only works on my newbies." Emerson stands by the door, nudging it open with her hip for Ivy. "I think it's the vinegar. Nothing screams carnival like vinegar fries."

"I've tried all the drinks on the menu and I can confidently say that the zombie with a pineapple twist is the best thing that's on the menu. Well, mostly on the menu. I had them add the pineapple. But it's a tiki bar - I feel like fruity drinks are the vibe, you know?" Chandler offered his unsolicited opinion to the person sitting next to him. He wasn't even drunk, having spent much of the day in the non-alcoholic part of the beach with his dog. But he did know his cocktails and have strong feelings about them. "Anyways, what about you? Do you have a favorite here?"

"All the drinks on the menu?" Emerson echoed somewhat dubiously, an eyebrow cocking in skepticism as she turned her body inwards to face Chandler. "Well if that's the case, I'm gonna need your expertise — am I going with the blue Hawaiian or the painkiller? I need to know which one's not gonna leave me laying despondently like a starfish on the sand in about an hour."
