BECAUSE IT MAKES THEMATIC SENSE. Perseus means "Destroyer" and Solace is "Comfort in times of distress." Aka a healer. The opposite of a destroyer. Percy turns into someone who comes off as "dark and broody" enough to scare away strangers off the streets. Will is like literal sunshine. Percy has all of the traits and powers of a main character fighting on the front lines while Will is very much a background character. Percy is a city kid and Will is a country kid. Percy is very close to his mortal mother, stays with her every summer and Will for whatever reason is a year-round camper instead of returning home.

Will Solace is in a lot of ways represents someone just as moral and good yet opposite of Percy.

Percy at the end of his big adventure, his personal prophecy, he chose to not accept godhood and stay human.

We don't really know what Will has planned for his future- we've never seen his POV before. We don't know if he wants to be a doctor or wants to go to college or anything. The most he's said is he wants to travel with Nico. Nico has expressed no desire to have a job and go to college. (And he has like a 5th grade education so even graduating high school might not be his priority yknow)

It could very well be in character for Will to be someone who would almost readily accept immortality- especially if doing so helped Nico or the other campers. ~~Like maybe it upgrades his healing capabilities~~ It would make sense in the way he's been consistently portrayed as sort of an opposite to Percy.
