âNo, Emma. There is not someone else.â  Severus pushed his hair out of his face, irritated at the conversation.  âYou have to do what you must to follow the expectations of your family.â Â
âBut if it were up to me, I would find someone a little more competent than Regulus Black to marry. Â You do realize these pureblood marriages tend to last a long time, right?â Â
âIt doesnât make sense. Â The last thing anyone needs right now is the frivolous distraction of planning a wedding. Â And as much as they say the war will be over in a year, I would beg to differ.â Â Severus idly toyed with the sleeve of his shirt, the mark hiding just behind the light fabric. Â He trusted Emma, but not enough to reveal the extent to which he was involved with the war himself. Â That information he was keeping close to his chest, so to speak. Â His face darkened at the thought of the purebloods dying out. Â That wouldnât bode well for Severus.
âBoth sides of this infernal war are too foolhardy to realize the concequence of their actions. Â One side is too arrogant to believe they can loose, the other too foolhardy to realize rushing head-first into danger will result in their death.â Â
âAnd yet there is no sense in debating this. Neither Regulus nor I have the ability to stop this from happening. Regardless of our own feelings this wedding and engagement is happening. You need to understand that this is just as much a part of this war as the fighting. We are but pawns to them, they need to show unity and what better way to do that than to marry the children of two wealthy families. It creates a bond and more support. Itâs politics, they donât see it as anything else. Even if we are their children. The fact that they didnât sell me off sooner is truly a miracle.â

âI donât. I think youâre a little girl with an over-inflated ego.â
âWhat is an act of revolution then?â he asked, his voice as steely as his grip. His gaze was hard and intense as he glared down at the girl â for she was a girl, that was the only way to describe her. Or a chihuahua â that was what her anger, her posturing, reminded him of.
âThe world doesnât change because of pretty words. It changes because of force and force is just another synonym for violence,â he spat. âAnd change is worth for more than a life. If you wish to âbe naive, fine â letâs see how the works out for you in the end.â
âYou can have a revolution of intelligence! Enlightenment. If people knew how to actually use their words then we wouldnât need the senseless violence. If we are so much better then why canât we rise above the violence. Being brutes makes us no better than muggles with their senseless wars!â
Fire and Ice//Lucinda and Emma
Lucinda had sensed that Emma was in a strange mood tonight. First the fight, then almost jinxing her and then the showerâŠ.She wanted to know what was going on with Emma, but she had asked as much as she dared. The rest was up to Emma to disclose when she was ready. Though Lucinda wasnât exactly patient. But now she was definitely distracted. She was still wondering what had gotten into Emma, but in an entirely different way.
Her lips parted under Emmaâs in surprise at her kissing her again, but also in pleasure. Because, while she wasnât entirely sure what was going on, she wasnât entirely sure she hated it either. In fact, she kinda liked it.  The heat from Emmaâs body, the taste of her lipsâŠ.Lucinda had kissed lots of people but this was different.
The words whispered from Emmaâs lips when she pulled away had Lucinda catching her breath. Because she knew what those words meant when said by a guy. Â But what did Emma mean? And what did Lucinda want her to mean? Was Emma just saying they should go back to her room, go to sleep, as they had so many times before? Lucinda somehow doubted it. And yet, that didnât bother her. It excited her. This was unknown and, whatever happened, Lucinda was sure that she and Emma would be able to work past itâif it needed working past at all.
âYeah, all right,â Lucinda said with a shy smile on her face, as casually as if Emma was asking if she wanted to watch a movie, or go shopping. But to show that Emma was not scaring her, not making her feel like she was doing anything she didnât want to, Lucinda slid her hand into Emmaâs and began leading them back down the hall to Emmaâs bedroom.
Nerves had filled her body as she sat and anticipated Lucindaâs answer. She didnât know if she had been too forward. If she had she could always disguise it as wanting to go to bed - couldnât she? Washer desire for fer friend too apparent to be hidden? This had really never happened before, she had never been so unsure in this type of situation. It was a new experience for her, an almost frightening one. Even her time with the twins had been less anxiety inducing. But that had been a drunken hook-up. This...this was her best friend.Â
Lucinda, her best friend from the day she had met her. The tiny little first year that had walked into the great hall looking fierce and scared at the same time. Emma had watched her, eyes curious, as the sorting hat shouted out âSlytherinâ. The girl had grinned widely and practically leapt to the table. Emma had immediately gravitated towards the girl and  sat Lucinda next to her. The two immediately bonded and could not be separated after.Â
But things were different now, their Hogwarts days were behind them. Things were different for them now. That was clear.Â
âIf you want me to stop...âEmma stepped into Lucindaâs personal space and pressed her against the wall. Her hands reaching up to cup either side of Lucindaâs face. The kiss far deeper and less chaste than before. Emmaâs heart raced.

âMindless thuggery would be a bar brawl or fighting over drugs â this is change. Revolution. But a naive little girl like you wouldnât understand,â he said, his fingers clasping around her wrist, holding it tightly between his fingers. He reached up and brushed a lock of her hair out of her face â it was not a kind act, not even comparable to a mockery of a loving act. âYouâre pitiable. I donât think I was ever as innocent as you.â
Emma glared and pulled her hand back, the movement probably not even noticeable in his steel grip. âCall me whatever you want but violence isnât an act of revolution. It puts peopleâs lives in danger. It makes casualties of people who donât want to be involved!â she wanted to get right in his face but was too short, the most she manged was to get on her toes and as close to in his face as she could. âAnd I would rather be naive than a brute!â
âAnd do you expect anything else of me, Vanity?â He eyed her, hunched over from reaching beneath the bar to put the glass away. âI do find joy in ruining moods, yes.â
âOh and I so hoped you have matured out of that.â Emma laughed and finally sat down right at the bar. Even if Evan didnât want her there he was stuck with her. âHow have you not gotten fired? Arenât bartenders supposed to be charismatic and charming?â
âis there someone else?â
Severus scowled. Â The pureblood way of doing things was absolutely ludicrus at times. Â A wedding in the middle of a war was just asking for trouble. Â Especially when one member of the marrying party was the brother of a prat and a member of the Dark Lordâs army. Â Emma was right. Â Chances were they werenât all going to make it through this war.
âThatâs all the more reason not to rush into hurried agreements.â Â Severus ran a frustrated hand through his hair. Â âI just donât understand why your parents insist you enter into such a ridiculous agreement, knowing full well thereâs a chance both or either of you wonât survive into the next year.â Â
âWell that is really the kicker isnât it. As a pureblood girl, if Iâm not married off Iâm of no use. Iâm as good as dead to them. Do you think purebloods have daughters to fawn over? Well I guess Emmelineâs parents do. Purebloods have daughters to unite families and gain them more power. If we canât do anything to improve upon the family well then we are useless. That is why they want to rush to marry me off.â Emma shrugged, she had accepted this truth long ago. She wanted to fight it of course but now wasnât the time. There was too much that had happened for her to justify trying to run away at this point. She had caught herself in the spiderweb.Â
âNot to mention that they donât really understand how many of us arenât going to survive. They have the utmost faith that their side will win. They donât really think about the fact that they arenât the ones fighting the war. Who knows maybe by the end of the war there will be no pureblood men left and I can be free to just play quidditch until I die.â Emma gave a short laugh but knew that it wasnât genuine. She didnât want them all to die. So many of them were her friends. People she cared about being sacrificed for such a pointless war.Â
Fire and Ice//Lucinda and Emma
Emma was asking if this was okay, if them kissing was okay. Lucinda didnât know what to tell her. She hardly knew what to think. She only somewhat knew what she felt. She knew that the sensation of Emmaâs lips against her own felt good, that their bodies pressed together felt right. But she had hardly ever imagined this happening, had never thought it actually would. Â It caught her by surprise.
Lucindaâs eyes searched Emmaâs searching for an explanation, but finding only desire. It made Lucindaâs knees grow a little weak and her cheeks flush. Â
âIt wasâit was nice,â she whispered. Her eyes darted down to stare at Emmaâs lips again. Her hand reaching up to push Emmaâs hair behind her ear, and to return to cup her cheek. A smile spread across her face, hesitant and shy.
Lucindaâs smile and movements were all the motivation that Emma needed. She stepped forward and then pulled Lucinda to her and kissed her. She didnât want to think anymore in that moment. If she did she was sure that she would chicken out and try to talk her way out of it. Emma wanted this, she wanted to kiss Lucinda and just be in that moment. She had been feeling it since the beginning of the night and she wasnât going to let it pass. For this moment Emma was going to let herself be impulsive.Â
âDo you...do you wanna go back to my room?â Emma asked, pulling away after a moment. She was slightly breathless, her face maybe a little too close to Lucindaâs. Her body felt heated from the kiss. Her head spinning. She wanted nothing more than to keep kissing Lucinda but she wanted to know that the other girl still wanted his. She would never force herself on anyone.
OOC- opinion on chipotle?
He nodded, and said, âYep, I was right.â Evan went back to cleaning a glass half-assed. âI thought I cared for a minute there,â he said, putting the glass down.
âYou are such an prat, Evan!â Emma rolled her eyes and then sat down at the bar. âDo you always have to attempt bring someoneâs mood down? Or is that just on special occasions?â
Dear Cygnus, I hope everything is well with you. I have been meaning to owl you sooner but things have been a little hectic. I wanted to notify you before you saw it announced as this was something we discussed. My parents have sent a proposal for Regulus Black to marry me. He and I are friends and have decided to both accept it as it buys us both some time and freedom, it was really our best option. I wanted to inform you first because I regard you highly and appreciate your advice. ~EV
Emma,
My fears have come true, then. This is staggering news and I am oddly shaken. Every young person I seem to speak with is being arranged and the thought makes me sick. But you knew that already, I suppose, from our last discussion.
Regulus Black, eh? Not a horrid suitor, considering youâve had no choice in the matter. It could be far worse and I would never want that for you. I am happy thereâs an agreement between you both but not thrilled by any means. You both deserve freedom.
C.B.
PS. That room is still open if you would like to run away, Regulus can join as well. Go to America or France, or anywhere that is not here. I beg you.
Emma,
Running away would, perhaps, be a tad dramatic. I will at least admit that. But I thought you would be fighting against these filthy traditions, not accepting them. I completely understand that it is formality, and there are a lot worse situations in the world, but I guess I dreamed of revolution. The youth are supposed to be changing everything, yet everyone I speak with has just let it happen. Again.
C.B.
Cygnus,
I want to fight them but what choice do I have? If it wasnât Regulus, my friend, then I would be married off to another boy. Perhaps this time a boy who wouldnât give me a choice. My parents wouldnât stop until I proved useful to them. Youâve seen how nasty things can get when girls refuse a marriage. I want more than anything for this to be a bad dream, to still have my freedom but I am in a precarious position. If I openly defy my parents who is to say I will not be labeled a traitor? I do not wish for you to have this image of me, to think me weak. I am simply trying to employ self preservation until I can figure out a better more long term solution.Â

âis there someone else?â
Severus stopped just short of running straight into Emma, a scowl on his face. Â He crossed his arms and tapped his foot. Â The pureblood way of doing things was archaic, and annoying to be sure. Â Emma was quite capable on her own, and there was no reason her parentâs shouldnât celebrate that. Â Â
âAre you quite done?â Â Severus didnât have the energy or desire to argue with Emma. Â âI just think it foolish that your parents even find it necessary to wed you now. Â They could at least wait until the end of the war; thereâs no guarantee that any of us will survive it. Â Once weâve won, there will be plenty of time for those who are left to have children to their heartâs content.â Â
âAnd please, donât bring up that prat again. Â The thought of you having him as a disgraced brother-in-law is enough to make me sick.â Â
âDonât you get it? This is the best time for a wedding! In their minds this shows the unity among purebloods.â Emma rolled her eyes and then fell back into step with Severus. She knew that he wouldnât quite understand. These were expectations that had been set for her from the day she was born.
âPlus, we arenât going to get married next month. They are going to wait for Regulus to graduate. Which give us both times to figure out what the hell to do. Either we get married, we find other people that we actually want to marry or...we die. This war isnât going to end with no casualties.â there was no point in skirting around it. Emma knew that at the end of this war many of her friend would be dead.Â
âNot the usual tone of the Hogs Head,â he said, rolling his eyes. âI would never ask such a question, but Iâve got nothing better to do. Why are we in such a good mood?â
âJust am! Its a nice night. And despite the shit week Iâve been having today hasnât been so bad.âÂ
âOh please. Iâm adorable. How could you not want to buy me a drink?â
âBecause Iâm the bartender, and youâre clearly very intoxicated.â
âOh come off it Rosier. I am not intoxicated. Iâm jut in a good mood. Is that not allowed?â
Bruised || Open
Emmeline rolled her eyes a bit when Emma said her flat wasnât decorated. They both knew that neither of them cared much for how their homes were decorated. âCome now Emma, you know I donât care how your flat appears. All that matters is you and maybe some take out.â She smiled before winking at Emma.
âI know all about you and the Bats, love. Everyone that even remotely follows Quidditch knows that Emma Vanity is playing a sport unconventional for someone of her status.â She grinned at her friend wondering why Emma was being so distant- had they really drifted that far from one another? âCome on I want to hear about the things you canât tell your parents. Like⊠how many boys and girls have to been with or are you still holding on tightly to your virginity?â
Her eyebrows raised a bit and she tilted her head. âYou can cook now? Oh this I have to see. Youâre going to have to cook for me now love.â
Emma laughed and blushed. She was aware of how much publicity her job would get but it still caught her off guard when people mentioned it. Even friends of hers. It had truly mortified her parents when they had found out. Emma would never admit it but that part was actually quite gratifying. Her mother had even looked close to fainting and had wanted to argue with her but in the end they had given up. They knew nothing would stop Emma from playing.Â
âIâve uh...âher cheeks turned pink at the thought of telling Emmeline about her sex life âIâm no longer a virgin but...there really isnât anyone...special.âÂ
While still embarrassed Emma subconsciously didnât want Emmeline to think she was unavailable. It was silly, her crush from school still held so firmly. She had always been surprised that Emmeline had taken an interest in prudish little Emma. In a way Emma was still prudish, despite having lost her virginity and being more adventurous. As she looked at Emmeline she couldnât imagine telling her of her experiences. The thought made her want to burn up on the spot.Â
âis there someone else?â
Severus sighed, frustrated.  âHeâs just⊠heâs so young.  Always trying to tag along with the older students.â  He had never really liked the way Regulus always seemed to be around Severus and his other friends.  He had worked hard to achieve the friendships that he had, which made it all the more frustrating that Reg didnât seem to have to try.  Not to mention his connection to both Bellatrix and Black. Â
âI donât know who else you would marry, Emma. I just⊠everyone seems to be rushing into things.â He crossed his arms, looking down at the ground.  âThere are plots brewing, sides to be chosen, and youâre worried about who youâre betrothed to?â Â
Emma gave an exasperated sigh. She walked a little ahead of Severus and then turned and stopped right in front of him. She put her hands on her hips and looked the dark haired boy directly in the eye.Â
âFirst of all, Regulus isnât that much younger. Second, most of those people knew him from all the stupid pure blood parties our familyâs hold. Thirdâ she she raised her voice slightly âand most importantly! Do not make it seem like I have much of a choice in this. If I hadnât chosen Regulus it would have been someone else who I didnât have a say in. You forget that pure blood girls are treated more as property than anything. If I had a choice in this I wouldnât be engaged at all but unfortunately for me unless I go the Sirius Black route then there isnât much of a choice there.â
