President Obama after Oregon shooting: “Our thoughts and prayers are not enough.”

Hours after today’s massacre in Oregon, President Obama took the podium for the 15th time after a mass shooting. Sounding stern and appearing frustrated, Obama challenged Americans to respond more forcefully to this shooting. His full, impassioned statement is one every American needs to hear.

Roseburg is only an hour or so from where I grew up. I know people who live there and who have gone to UCC. I’ve never been this close to a mass shooting before, I’m afraid when they release the names of the victims I’ll know one of them. I’m scared one of them will be someone from my high school, my summer camp, someone grew up down the street from me. It’s terrifying and overwhelmingly senseless.

This can’t go on. This can’t become routine.
