Remus was slowly waking up. The familiar ache in his joints was duller today, but still present. The moon hadn’t been bad at all, he didn’t feel excruciating pain anywhere in his body, he felt like none of his bones broke and didn’t register any open wounds. Overall, a nice moon.
The strange thing about that morning was the warm, plushy and furry cushion his head was on. It was so comfortable, Remus didn’t open his eyes, he just snaked his hand through all that good smelling fur, snuggling his face in it as well.
Around him he could hear some muffled giggles, and he furrowed his brows, but still didn’t feel like opening his eyes: he was too comfortable.
Then, something wet was lapping at his face, and he opened his eyes just to stare into Padfoot’s big black snout.
“Ew, Padfoot, why would you do that? That’s disgusting!”
Finally he registered where he was: the Shrieking Shack was enlightened by the first sunrays, and he was snuggled up on Padfoot’s gigantic form, using him as a pillow on the floor. His body was covered by a heavy blanket, and Prongs and Wormtail were looking at him from the bed.
“Good morning sleeping beauty! How are you feeling?”
James was energetic as always, but Remus noticed that he stifled his enthusiasm for his sake, he mentally thanked him.
“I’m fine, nothing broken and no open wounds, so…”
He was still petting Padfoot, who hadn’t transformed back, choosing to accept the cuddles given by his boyfriend.
“Sorry you had to sleep on the floor, mate. We tried to get you on the bed, but… hum…”
Wormtail was trailing off, and decidedly not looking at him in the eyes.
“What? What did I do? Did I hurt any of you?”
Remus was starting to get paranoid, but James calmed him.
“None of that, Moony, calm down. You just didn’t want to leave Padfoot’s side, that’s all. When you transformed back, we put a blanket on you and let you sleep for a bit.” Prongs’ grin never left his face, and Remus felt like there was something they were not telling him.
He looked at his boyfriend, who responded with a friendly bark and a lick on the tip of Remus’ nose, before turning back into Sirius and enveloping him in a hug.
“Good morning, darling. Merlin, it’s bloody cold in here! How did you make it all these past winters without us to keep you warm?”
Remus just shrugged, ignoring the snicker coming from the bed behind him. What the hell were they not telling him?
“Well, lads, me and Wormy are off. We’ll leave you two lovebirds alone, so that Remus can have some privacy. Speaking of: you might wanna pick that blanket up, mate.”
Remus scrambled to pick his blanket up and cover himself better, he hadn’t noticed it slipping off that much, while James and Peter fled from the shack, still bloody laughing.
“Ok. What happened? Why are they laughing like maniacs?”
Moony asked his boyfriend, who was passing him his clean clothes that he placed in a drawer the night prior.
“Ah, that. It’s nothing, don’t worry. Moony was just a bit… affectionate, last night.”
Remus picked up what Sirius was implying, and felt the urge to bury himself. Instead, he just buried his face in his hands, hiding his embarrassment.
“Oh Merlin, please tell me I didn’t.”
Sirius laughed at his boyfriend, and just hugged him, forgetting the clothes for a moment.
“It’s nothing, Moony. I found ìt quite flattering, actually. Even in wolf shape, you still can’t resist my charm. It’s admirable, truly.”
Sirius barked a laugh and just started leaving kisses all over Remus’ face, trying to cheer him up.
“Oh, come on. Don’t kill yourself over it. Dress up instead, you’re gonna get frostbites in this bloody cold.”
Remus shoved him away, still too embarrassed, and started dressing up (he was actually very cold). Once he was done, he laid down on the bed, and Sirius joined him. Remus would have had to wait for Madame Pomfrey to come fetch him.
“Sirius, you should go, Madame Pomfrey will be here any minute now.”
“I’ll just turn into Padfoot, she’ll figure a big black dog broke inside this morning, don’t worry about it.”
But Remus couldn’t really put two coherent thoughts together: he was already drifting back off to sleep. Sirius looked lovingly at him, kissed him on the tip of his nose, and turned back into a dog, curling up beside him, offering a soft pillow to rest on.
