             ”They got away. Killed two half-blood families before we got there. Almost had them, too, but one of ‘em managed to land a Cruciatus on Emmeline and apperated.”

"But I'm fine" Emmeline hastily added onto Alice's recount of how the mission had gone down. "We also managed to get one talking, but he had no account of where Benjy is." Emmeline couldn't help but feel as if it were her fault they got away-after all, if she hadn't been hit by the Unforgivable then they could have sent a spell at the Death Eater.

As soon as the door was opened, before there was even a chance, practically a tsunami of people bombarded the two.

Emmeline was slightly flustered; the amount of people certainly was overwhelming, especially as anytime she had spent with her own family had always...

Suddenly overwhelmed became an understatement, as Emmeline was led into a room with over double the amount of people who greeted them at the door. Although she never had been good at meeting people, the room still had such a bright sense to it that it wasn't such a bad thing, having so many names to remember (and Doc narrowing down the names helped further more.)

When Doc mentioned what she should address them all as, it seemed slightly strange-especially when he mentioned calling people mum and dad. Emmeline wasn't sure as to why, so she didn't question it, but it all seemed slightly surreal that she would be accepted to call members of family who weren't her own what might be deemed as personal names.

Her head turned to each person Caradoc was speaking about, acknowledging what he was saying, still slightly amazed at just how big the Dearborn family was turning out to be. Emm swiftly moved out the way as a child came running through, smiling as his hair was ruffled. "I think I've got it" she laughed slightly, hoping her tendency to forget wouldn't pop up today.

  "You’ll love it, I swear. It’s just a bit overwhelming at first," he smiled. Doc wrapped an arm around Emm’s shoulder and knocked. They waited barely a second before the door was swung open wide, and they were crushed by several arms hugging all at once. Deidre and Juno wiggled their way to the front, jumping up on Doc and Emm as they showered the pair with kisses.  "Are you Emmeline?" "So you’re his girlfriend?" "You’re the one he loooooooves!” Before they could do much in response, though, Doc’s mother wrapped him tightly in her arms, before she turned to Emmeline and planted a hearty kiss on her cheek.

"I’m Ashlynn, but you can call me mum, dearie!" she drawled, ushering the mass inside. 

Doc pulled Emmeline close enough to whisper in her ear. “Don’t let them freak you out.”

Emmeline was slightly flustered; the amount of people certainly was overwhelming, especially as anytime she had spent with her own family had always been quaint (never more than seven people), but she was glad to say the least to be meeting Doc's family, especially at how nice they all seemed.

She smiled as who she assumed were Doc's younger sisters, laughing as they began to speak. "I am, yeah" She said in answer to their first two questions, before laughing once more at the smaller ones little proclamation at the end.

Before Emmeline could reply to that last outburst, a woman had walked their way and (after hugging Caradoc) a kiss was planted on her cheek by her. Emmeline hadn't met any of Doc's family before, but smiled at his mother, about to say something in reply, but before she could they were walking into the house, and Ashlynn was well ahead of them.

"They're so nice" Emm whispered back, now the slight daze of meeting people had died down.

"We must have some Jewish people staying for awhile.. maybe they’re in hiding…" he mused, walking towards the door of his parents’ house. "Are you ready for the barrage of people and things and food?" he grinned, hesitating before knocking.

Emmeline walked behind him, stopping once on the doorstep beside Doc. "I guess so?" She laughed lightly, not sure whether she should be wary or not with the way he described it.

"Are you seeing this? We have a menora now?

Chrismukkah? I guess it just adds to the seasonal spirit

"I knew you were friends with me for a reason." Marlene joked, winking at her friend before sliding over a bottle to her new drinking buddy.

Emmeline grinned, taking the drink in one hand. "Why thank you, Marls. We'll call it getting into the Christmas spirit, eh?"

Valerie had been in the back of her shop, panting as she moved her new shipment of potion vials and ingredients to their proper places. It might have been easier to just levitate the boxes to where she wanted but it was a slow work day and moving the boxes the Muggle way helped to pass the time. Valerie’s shop was a different kind of shop. She sold ready-made potions, saving time on busy wives who couldn’t find the time or bother purchasing the rather expensive ingredients to make it themselves. So, Valerie did it for them and so far things had been going well. She had passed out flyers all along the cobble stoned street and her shop even offered for customers to order potions she didn’t have on the shelves. She looked up from her check list as the bell on her counter rang. She hoped it was another customer and not the angry Apothecary owner. He had already been to stop by a few times to tell Valerie she was to shut down her business. “Be right there!” Valerie dusted herself off and took her dark brown hair out of the messy bun she had tossed it up in. She ran her fingers through her hair and walked out to greet whoever had entered her shop.

Whilst walking through the Wizarding part of town, having decided to take the longer route home from work instead of apparating-to waste time more than anything- Emmeline noticed a flyer for a potion shop. She didn't normally pay much attention to advertisements, but this one caught her eye-merely because the shop was something that was useful to her. It wasn't that Emmline was lazy, per say, but she just didn't have the time to make her own potions anymore; and dreamless-sleep potion and invigoration draught was something that not only did she heavily rely on, but was also running low on.

Turning around, she changed directions so she was walking back up the direction she had come from, through Diagon Alley, until she reached the same shop that had been flaunted on the flyer. Emmeline opened the door, looking around the shelves as she walked towards the counter. For a moment the blonde thought that it was empty-that perhaps she had intruded when the quaint building was closed-but the thought vanished once she saw a brunette making her way over. She smiled at her, vaguely recognizing the face. "Hi. Urm, do you have any Dreamless Sleep Potion? Or Invigoration Draught?" She greeted the (what she assumed to be) shop owner warmly, and though she was in no rush, made no diversions from asking if either of the potions were in stock.

Mary stopped short, her eyes widening slightly, her breath hitching in her throat. "A-Aiden Mulciber? Y-yeah, he probably wouldn't have told you his name if he was going to do something."

"What is it?" The way Mary repeated the name with wide eyes was unnerving, and Emm couldn't help but wonder why she had such a reaction. "And yeah, exactly."

“That doesn’t sound good..” She frowned, her concern growing by the second. “Did he give you a name? Maybe we should tell the others..”

"He gave me a name-which makes him less of a threat, doesn't it? If he was dangerous, he wouldn't tell me who he was, unless of course, he was lying. Aiden Mulciber, said his name was. The one Alastor briefly mentioned, I think." Emmeline stopped talking. There was nothing behind the story besides her own paranoia, so she decided to drop it.

"Oh?" She arched an eyebrow questioningly, taking note of the sarcasm in her friend's voice, her concern clear as she spoke. "And did this lovely guy do anything to hurt you?"

"Oh, no" Emmeline shook her head, taking a sip of water before carrying on speaking. "I don't know. He was..unsettling. I'm not sure why, he just was. He asked my blood status, knew my name, and that, in my opinion, is just creepy." Emm shrugged, finishing her drink.

"How dull." She winked, folding up the paper and pushing it away, not wanting to read any more about attacks. The question made Mary tense up slightly, though she was quick to shrug it off. "Not much, I had to talk to St Mungo's about when I can start again but besides that, it's been a pretty boring day. And I kind of just showed my face and left, I wasn't really in the mood to be pitied all night." She lied smoothly, ignoring the guilt that formed in the pit of her stomach. "Did you have fun?"

"Mhm" She chuckled lightly, grateful for the headlines now being hidden. Emmeline arched an eyebrow slightly at Mary's slight hesitation at the question, though too brushed it aside, passing it off as just her imagination. "It was fun, yes. Though I didn't stay for long. Did run into a lovely guy on the way home though" She spoke the last part sarcastically, unsure as to why Aiden had scared her so much. No, no, not scared. Emmeline refused to admit she had been scared by the encounter, as nothing had happened, not really. Merely...startled.

Mary jumped at the sound of the door opening, her shoulders slumping slightly in relief as Emmeline made herself known. She flicked absentmindedly through the paper in front of her, focussing on the story centred around an attack on a building in London. "Suspected dark magic involved.. No major injuries.." Mary couldn't help but wonder if Aiden knew anything about it, but she immediately scolded herself for it. You can't start this already, it's only been a day, stop doubting him.

Emmeline walking into the kitchen broke Mary from her trance, and she smiled warmly at the blonde. "Good evening, have a good day?"

"It was alright. Nothing too interesting happened" She smiled, taking her water and sitting opposite Mary. Taking a look at the paper facing her friend, Emmeline chose not the read the title of the article. It was obvious what it would say-there would be another attack, another murder, another disappearance, something along those lines. "What about yours? I didn't say much of you at the ball. Get up to anything interesting?" the blonde inquired, completely unaware of the events that had happened to Mary during the Ministry's masquerade party.

Emmeline unlocked the door, fumbling with the keys in her hand, before opening it and stepping inside, and out of the cold. Shutting the door behind her, and seeing the lights on, Emm knew Mary was home, and called out a greeting so the brunette would know who it was who just walked in. 

Her face was flushed from the cold, having walked quicker than she usually would. Her run in with Aiden Mulciber had unnerved her, the mere presence of the man (whom many were sure was a Death Eater) was unpleasing, for a reason that Emmeline neither knew nor wanted to question. 

The blonde walked into the kitchen, where she could see Mary sitting at the table, and headed over to the sink to get a glass of water. "Hey" She said over her shoulder, as she poured some water from the tap into a glass.
