maddie-york:
There was very little of Maddie’s brain that was still thinking logically and luckily, or unluckily depending on how you looked at it, the small part that was, was quiet. Because even as she stumbled out of the taxi, giggling as she grabbed onto Emmett’s arms to steady him, that part of her brain knew she was in trouble. She knew that she’d stayed until the club closed because of him, that if she hadn’t have found him sitting there, she’d be tucked up in bed with her dog. Instead, he’d helped make her night into one of the best birthdays she’d had in a long tim and though she would be unlikely to remember any of it in the morning, she was truly grateful.
Nodding to his question, Maddie grabbed onto his hand as she made her way towards the front door of her building, knocking on the door a few times before laughing. “Wait, I have keys!” Giggling as she dropped his hand, reaching into her small clutch, she rummaged for her key before holding it up to him. “Magic keys.” Unlocking the door, Maddie stumbled as she pushed it open, giggling again as she turned back to him. In that moment, she didn’t think about the consequences or anything but him and just how much she wanted to kiss him at that moment. Standing in the doorway, Maddie reached for him, one arm sliding around his neck as she leaned in, her lips pressing against his without a moment’s hesitation.
As she accepted his offer, Emmett’s drunken haze couldn’t help the elated expression appearing upon his features. Even if only temporarily, this was real. His shitty night had done a complete 180 ever since running into her. Like it always seemed to any time he did, giving him the motivation he seemingly needed, since it and faith within himself only seemed to dwindle and dwindle lately. And as far as he could tell at the moment, they both were having a good time, and his stupid issues he had to deal with himself hadn’t ultimately ruined her birthday. Which was the most important thing. Leading her up to the pathway to her place the best he possible could ( hey, they both didn’t fall, right?! ), Emmett laughed at her key debacle. “They better be!” He exclaimed, holding his frame up against the door for the moment.
It suddenly occurred to him in a way how awkward this became. He should just…leave now, not embarras himself any more in front of her. But before he could simply tell her a goodnight, a happy birthday, new year, and be on his way, his eyes widened, finding Maddie instantly move closer, her lips pressing to his. Eyes closing after a moment, he couldn’t help kissing back, lips moving along hers to establish some rhythm, head tilting more inward, hands wrapping themselves at her waist.. For whether remembered or not, it was actually happening in the now. In the very early hours of the newest year.
