“Ferris wheels are exciting. I like being up at the top and seeing the view over the town. But… you’re right that a mini coaster is more thrilling.” She sighed. “Let me guess… that one has a long line too. Tell me it moves just as quickly.”

“I suppose you have a fair point. Still, you can waste your first ride on the day on it. I bet you anything the Ferris wheel will be so much better once the sun starts to set. Especially cause then the sun won’t be in your eyes and the town will look so lovely all lit up. I feel like I’ve gotten off track, oh gosh. Still, you should definitely go on the coaster at some point. I’ll even ride with you if you get scared.” She joked. “Though, yeah---- most likely that line will take ages.”

“How is that the real question? Out of all questions that could be the real question why is that yours?”

“Because my question is important. Whereas yours is just.... for humor most likely. Unless that was the entire point.. and if so then feel free to ignore me, because I’m dull apparently, and I talk to much.”

“Maybe it isn’t my place to say anything, but from the look of some of these rides, it would not surprise me in the least if there’s a lawsuit by the end of the week.”

“Right? Although I’m sure everything is safe. I mean, our mayor wouldn’t actually put something out to the public where someone would actually get hurt. I think the illusion of being unstable and scary is what attracts people----- because its an adrenaline rush and all that.”

When she opened her mouth, he turned to her, with a slight smile.  “What is it about everyone here and food? Everyone seems to be more excited about the food, than they are about anything else.” James found himself more willing to have a drink, than to have just fattening foods all day. That would mess up his workout schedule, completely.

“Are you really going to stand here and tell me that you are not excited about deep fried hot dogs? Or cotton candy, or pizza covered completely in cheese? I honestly expected more of you.” She laughed. “Well, to be honest i’m more excited about the games with stuffed animals as prizes, that I am not good enough to win, mind you, rather then the food----- but the food is definitely a close second to me.”

don’t give away your heart

Emmeline always took care of herself. She learned from an early age that she could not depend on anyone else. Not her father. He abandoned her and her mother before she was even kicking. Not her mother. After her father left them struggling, her mother quickly fell into the all too familiar rut of drinking and failing to take care of her child’s basic needs. She was seven when her mother succumbed to the alcohol and left her turned out on the street. She got by begging and stealing until someone found her and delivered her to the local home for girls. She resisted it at first, but the mistress quickly took a special interest in her. She liked her tenacity and her fight and she quickly dubbed her special. She gained more privileges than the other girls and when the home for girls moved into Marlene’s estate, she got her choice of bedrooms and more opulence than she’d ever gotten. She distained Marlene from the start. She’d grown up with this silver spoon in her mouth when Emmeline had been left to struggle. She and Lucinda took great pleasure in coming up with tasks and different things to keep her busy.

Emmeline never expected that her bubble would be popped, but the day Marlene returned with her new husband, the prince, she and Lucinda were out on the streets along with the mistress. She was right back to where she started, a place she swore she’d never be. Angry, she searched for some way, anyway to get her revenge or to claw her way back up into the tier of society she had once been. She found the answer to her prayers one evening in the village tavern. A charismatic man named Rabastan made a promise to help her get back on her feet. The price was a favor whenever he needed it and Emmeline had no idea what she was in for.

don’t take what the world gives you

Unfortunately, the debt she owes to Rabastan has transcended into the real world. Her job working in City Hall as Rabastan’s secretary isn’t all bad. He does occasionally ask her to do things that are less than legal in order to make the city run smoothly, but it’s still a job and it keeps her heard above water. That’s all she can really ask for.

“Oh really? That’s good to know. I just got here, and this is the first ride I’ve tried to go on. Maybe I’ll just stick it out then. It sounds like it’s worth the wait.”

“Pause. Did you just say that this will be your first ride of the day? Well, my answer changes then. You just have to go on that mini roller coaster over their.” Em paused to point to the other side of the carnival. “You really should start off with something more exciting, and then go on this one later on--- like when your feet starts to hurt.”

James walked around, taking the carnival in. He had the day off, and had promised his friends that he would not walk around, acting like the law all day, but he was definitely watching, still. After grabbing something to drink, he stood watching. “People seem to be having a good time.”

“Of course they are.” Em replied, without much warning. She paused then, considering he probably wasn’t talking to her.. before continuing on with a mental shrug. After all, she had already opened her mouth, it would look foolish to not continue on. “I mean, who wouldn’t like this sort of party? Its enjoyable and has fattening foods. Win, win for me.”

Narcissa’s eyes scanned the booths around her as she walked, doing her best not to get lost in the crowds of people. “One of the best things about this is all the sweets, but I never know what to pick. There are so many options.”

“I hate to be that one person, but I feel the need to point out that the line actually does go by pretty fast. I’ve been on it twice today. Just as long as you aren’t waiting alone, of course. Then its like torture.”

Daisy emerged from behind the tent, taking the last bite of her apple before noticing the customer in front of the shops stand. “–Oh…oh! I’m so sorry! You should’ve told me you were here. How can I help you?”

Although Emmeline hated to admit it, once she saw someone pop out from behind a curtain---- she jumped. Like a child, she might add. With an abashed grin, Em took a step closer. “Sorry, I’m not sure, really. I was just wandering around. Got lost in the sights, I suppose. Do you work here?”

“Betcha a funnel cake I can win that over-sized stuffed monkey.”

“Knocking over milk bottles? Piece of cake.”

“Cocky, huh? Well, now I have to see that happen.” Em took a step back and crossed her arms over her chest. “Alright then, i’m waiting. Also, I want a lemonade if you fail.”

           “So is it bad that I didn’t let that kid win the game? I feel kinda bad now about it. But I really wanted that stuffed tiger for absolutely no reason whatsoever so it could have been worth it in the end.”

“Well, it depends.” Em replied with a laugh. “Did the kid take the loss well, or did they cry? Cause if they cried, then I feel the need to inform you that you are, in fact, a terrible person.” She then paused for effects with a grin, before continuing. “If they didn’t cry though, then congrats on the win, and I have to see that tiger.”
