Disco Falafel - the Middle Eastern party everyone needs these days.

Fan art for the legendary Salima Murad (1900-74), one of Iraq's greatest singers of the 20th century. A Jew from Baghdad, she sang and performed extensively, was nicknamed "Pasha" by the Prime Minister and highly praised by Oum Kolthoum, later married another famous singer and chose to stay in Iraq to continue her career.

This poster is for a fictional show with Salima headlining and the famous Al-Kuwaity brothers on the oud and violin, at the nightclub Abu Nuwas which they founded in the 40s. While the context is believable, I had to put my own creative license on this - hopefully they would have been open to to pink.

A small tribute and very condensed context to these three legacies - Salima Murad, Saleh Al-Kuwaity and Daoud Al-Kuwaity 💖

"A house with a date palm will never starve." 🌴

These days, this Mesopotamian proverb speaks to me about more than just food. Palm trees rely so much on strong roots, love, nurturing, healthy growth and stability. Maybe we all just need to find our own palm tree inside. Not just to feed ourselves, but others around us.

I wanted to share something Iraqi today, as 30 November commemorates the many thousands of Jews displaced from Iraq, the Middle East and North Africa.

Wishing more palm trees to everywhere that needs healing 🙏
