Come And Get Your Love || Jack & Emma
Jack bumped shoulders with Emma when she joked back. It was nice. It reminded her of what she considered normal. Jack was always herself with Emma. It felt effortless. They jokes and teasing were as natural as breathing when they were together, and Jack didn’t want that to change because of that one night. She didn’t want it to linger over their heads and ruin them. She loved what they had right now. She didn’t want to lose it.
"Alright," she said as she stood and stretched. The two began walking through the woods. At first, they were pretty quiet, but after a while, they started talking. Jack told Emma about quitting her job and how the manager offered to let her come back at any time without notice. Emma told Jack all about her day at work and the latest gossip about her coworkers. Before they realized it, they were back on campus. Jack turned to Emma once they came to a stop. It was late now for sure, and Jack had to go home. "I should probably go."
The walk back was nice and felt totally normal, but it was different. And it was unsettling how it was different; Emma wanted to hold Jack's hand, and she kept stealing glances at her, and the only thing that was really on her mind was the kiss. When she ranted about gossip with her co-workers, she left out the dinner she'd had with a few of them a couple nights after she'd slept with Jack, where she'd basically rambled to them and been given advice she didn't want to accept at the time but was starting to think was legit. She held her hands together as they walked, probably subconsciously walking close to death, she hated the forest at night.
It didn't take long for them to read campus, and when they did, Emma knew they were going to part ways. She turned to Jack, nodding when she spoke. "Yeah." She gave her a small smile. She felt a bit better, but honestly, she wasn't sure she was satisfied with how the night had gone. Jack, although she had initiated the kiss, had made no move to suggest and she wanted anything out of it. Emma wasn't sure what she'd been hoping for, what she'd been wanting, but she knew she would have a lot of thinking to do after tonight. If she really was starting to like Jack in that way (it could, of course, still be nothing), then being just friends with her was going to be hard. She was in a shitty situation, and she needed to think it through, needed to talk to someone, needed to rest her head for a while.
Her sister had taken her cat to her brother's a while after Emma was attacked, considering she couldn't take good care of it, but now that Emma had started getting better and needed the companionship, she was going to bring Emma with her to Adam's and get one of the puppies he had at home; a yorkie-maltese mix. Considering he had a huge house and was somewhat rich, they'd kept all their dog's puppies after they were born. The house was filled with dogs, and they were more than willing to let Emma have one. Tomorrow they were leaving - she'd be gone a few days - so Emma should probably get some sleep. She doubted she'd get much, though. "Goodnight, then." She was going to ask Jack to text her when she got home like she usually did, but the words didn't come out. She didn't want to hear from her again tonight, not while she had so much to think about involving her. She'd sure it'd just make it worse.
