sorry ok sorry but every time i hear someone say “rick has good intentions, he’s trying his best!” ok sure, if he was trying his best he wouldn’t have samirah marry her fucking cousin in an arranged marriage while being underage; if he was trying his best he wouldn’t have put feathers in piper’s hair for decoration and framed it as her stubborn streak; if he was trying his best he wouldn’t be comparing frank’s body to baby sumo wrestlers or panda bears or have leo’s only description be ‘a latino santa’s elf’ or force hazel, a young black girl who’s in middle school, in a relationship with a junior year high school student and claim that she is mature for her age. maybe he had good intentions, maybe he was trying his best — but don’t fucking use that as an argument to excuse the ignorant and stereotypical elements in his writing. if he was ‘trying his best,’ he would listen to his fans of color and promise to be more mindful in the future but instead he uses his platform to excuse what he wrote in the past! so i literally don’t care if he has good intentions when he writes ‘diversity’ when he doesn’t seem to even listen to criticism.
