🦢 i dont really want to compromise our friendship, but i got a thing for you, yeah,, friend!juhoon x f!reader, friends that kiss, making out, clingy juhoon, juhoons tipsy, lowercase intended, profanity, fluff, neck kisses (once), 2k~
syn: your friend juhoon just cant stop kissing you. news flash! you dont want him to stop. the lines dont have to blur, right? you guys are going to stay friends, right?
listen to: lowkey by rochelle jordan
james was halfway off the couch, arguing with martin about something neither of them seemed especially invested in proving. seonghyeon had surrendered entirely to scrolling through his phone, occasionally contributing a sentence just often enough to keep james from claiming victory by default. iroha had curled herself into the corner cushion beneath a throw blanket she'd stolen from somewhere after complaining about how loud the party was, and keonho was in the kitchen, quietly rescuing another round of drinks before someone inevitably dropped one.
you sat somewhere in the middle of it, one cross legged, listening more than speaking. the conversation moved around you the way it always did with this group—overlapping, interrupting itself, picking up threads from half an hour ago without anyone needing to explain how they'd gotten there.
juhoon stepped inside carrying a plastic convenience store bag, the green glass bottles inside knocking gently against one another as he crossed the room. his cheeks were faintly pink beneath the warm apartment lights, the flush high enough to suggest someone had already convinced him to drink before he got here. not drunk. just ‘tipsy’.
he dropped the bag onto the coffee table. "i brought more."
james let out an approving noise. "finally."
a few hands immediately reached for the bottles.
juhoon didn't. instead, he looked at you. you noticed because you always did. he crossed the last few steps between you without much urgency and reached out, fingertips brushing lightly against your shoulder until you looked up from your phone. "i need your help."
you blinked. "with what?"
he tilted his head toward the hallway. "come with me?"
there wasn't anything unusual about the request. not to anyone else. martin glanced over from the opposite couch. "you need another person?"
"nah," juhoon answered easily. "we're good."
martin nodded once and reached for another bottle, already distracted again. that was all. nobody questioned it, why would they?
objectively, you and juhoon were friends. there were years of evidence supporting that conclusion. shared classes, same friend group, shared habits accumulated so gradually that no one remembered when they'd started. if one of you disappeared for ten minutes, the assumption was almost always that the other had dragged them into some entirely ordinary errand.
subjectively...subjectively was less cooperative. subjectively, friends probably didn't kiss each other often enough to develop an unspoken system for it. they probably didn't understand the difference between looking and asking. they probably didn't know exactly how long the other would hesitate before saying yes.
fortunately for both of you, those were details no one else had reason to notice.
you stood. "i'll be back."
james lifted a hand dismissing you both without looking up from whatever keonho had just said. the conversation continued itself almost immediately, filling the space you'd vacated. there were enough people there for anyone to notice your absence unless informed.
from the living room, a broad hallway stretched deeper into the first floor. the staircase waited at the very end, sweeping upward toward the second floor before disappearing around the landing. juhoon started walking without checking whether you were behind him.
you followed a pace later.
the music dulled with every step. by the time you'd reached the hallway, the party no longer felt like something you were inside. only something happening in the background.
you opened your mouth. "so...what exactly—"
his hand found your wrist. the interruption was so immediate that the rest of the sentence never made it out. his fingers curled lightly around you with the absent certainty of habit, already guiding you up the staircase before either of you seemed to register what he'd done.
you looked down.
then at him.
juhoon didn't notice.
or perhaps he did, somewhere beneath the pleasant haze of alcohol, because his pace slowed just enough for you to keep beside him without needing to tug against his grip. it wasn't until the foot of the staircase that he glanced back. his eyes dropped automatically to where his hand rested around your wrist. "oh."
there was no embarrassment in his voice. only mild surprise, as though he'd discovered himself halfway through an unconscious decision. for a second, you thought he'd let go. instead, his thumb shifted almost imperceptibly against your skin. "c'mon," he murmured.
juhoon led you further down the corridor of the first floor. pulling you into a vacant room. it looked like a guest room that hadn't been used in some time. a neatly made bed. curtains left half-open. the moonlight being the only source of light in the dark room.
the door clicked shut behind you.
you turned towards him, "you needed help?"
his arms slipped around your waist with an ease that suggested he'd forgotten to think before acting, and a second later his forehead found the crook of your neck. he let out a long and dramatic sigh, his weight settled against you. you could feel his breaths against your skin, his lashes grazing your skin every time he blinked.
your hands tangled themselves in his hair, before you realised it you were absentmindedly running your hands on his back. "what’s wrong?"
he hummed still nuzzled in your neck, the vibrations running down your neck.
"drunk?"
he giggled, "a little?"
"you dragged me upstairs because you’re a little drunk?"
he answered by shaking his head, slow enough that the movement brushed the tip of his nose against your skin before he finally pulled away. the absence of his warmth settled over you almost immediately. for the first time since he'd tugged you upstairs, there was enough space between you for you to properly look at him.
his cheeks were still faintly flushed. a few strands of dark hair had escaped beneath your fingers, falling untidily across his forehead. his eyes met yours. his eyes were blown out.
yup, he’s drunk.
he stared at you for a second, as if he was trying to memorise your face. then, without saying a word, he lifted both hands. his palms settled lightly against your cheeks. you startled not because of the touch itself, but because of the contrast. "your hands are freezing."
his thumb slowly caressed your cheek. "don’t want me near you?"
you laughed softly, "i didn’t say that."
"deal with me then." his voice was raspier than usual. he bent down slightly, one of his hands slipped away from your face disappearing into your hair instead. he gently laced his hands in your hair, making sure not to pull it. his cheek rested atop of your head.
"changed your shampoo?"
you hummed in response as your hands, left with nothing better to do, drifted almost unconsciously to the chain resting against his collarbone. your fingers rolled the small pendant back and forth, the cool metal catching between your fingertips as silence settled comfortably around the two of you.
after a while, he lifted his head from where it'd been resting against yours. the sudden absence of the weight was almost enough to make you look up. his hand remained buried in your hair, fingers still loosely threaded through the strands as though he'd forgotten they were there. with the smallest tug, he drew you a slight bit closer.
he tilted his head. his gaze found yours almost immediately. there it was again. that look. his eyes were still soft from the alcohol, heavy-lidded, carrying the kind of request he never seemed capable of putting into words. he wasn't asking out loud.
he never had to.
you held his gaze for another second before letting out the quietest sigh. "you're unbelievable." you rolled your eyes, though the corners of your mouth betrayed you almost immediately.
he smiled.
the sight of it made your own resolve crumble far faster than you cared to admit. he leaned in slowly, leaving more than enough time for you to stop him if you'd wanted to.
you didn't.
his forehead brushed yours first. then the tip of his nose. his fingers slipped a little further into your hair as he closed the last few inches between you, his lips meeting yours. his other hand met your hips as stepped closer. Your back was pressed into the hallway wall as tispy giggles escaped juhoons lips.
you pulled away slightly, “what?”
“you’re so fucking cute,” he connected his lips to yours again for a brief second before pulling back. he kissed the corner of your mouth, slowly making his way to your neck leaving a trail of kisses on your jaw.
“jju, no.” you whined, gripping his shirt.
his glossy eyes met yours as he kissed you again, hands cradling your lower back. his lips moved against yours as if he was trying to memorise you. You hum into his mouth, “what’s with you today?”
“hmm,” was the only thing leaving his mouth before his mouth brushed yours again. his thumb stroking your jaw. his hands leave your lower back making way to cup your cheeks again. your hands slowly let go off the scrunched material, pushing juhoon away. he only fought back by trying to pull you closer.
he failed.
you pull away breathing heavily. “are you trying to kill me?”
he let out a long, dramatic groan, his forehead falling briefly against your shoulder before he looked at you again. "stop pulling away."
you laughed, giving him another gentle push that he very obviously disagreed with. "juhoon."
"what?"
"i can't breathe here."
he frowned. "i don't care."
You roll your eyes at him again. "yeah, i noticed."
"i missed you." the words left him so easily that you almost forgot to respond. his brows pinched together as he looked at you, genuinely aggrieved. "you were with them the whole time."
you blinked. "juhoon."
"what about me?"
"you were buying drinks."
a pout reached his lips. "i still missed you." you stared at him for a second before letting out a quiet laugh, shaking your head. "i even hit pregame before i came inside."
your eyes narrowed. "you what?"
"had to prepare."
"for?"
"seeing you talk to guys that aren’t me." there wasn't an ounce of embarrassment in his voice. if anything, he looked entirely convinced that made perfect sense. you rolled your eyes so hard they almost hurt. "you're unbelievable."
he smiled. "that's what you said earlier."
"because it's still true."
you reached up, smoothing the front of his shirt where your hands had left it slightly wrinkled. "i'm going downstairs."
his smile disappeared. "Already?"
"yeah."
he sighed. "a few more minutes."
"juhoon."
"one."
you shook your head. "you can come down five minutes later."
his face scrunched immediately. "Five?"
"yes, five." he looked offended by the number. "if anyone asks," you continued, fixing the chain around his neck where you'd been absentmindedly fiddling with it, "some girl was throwing up. we got distracted trying to find her friends so they could take care of her."
he watched you quietly. "Okay?" another pause. "one more kiss?"
you snickered. "nope."
"please?"
"if we're gone any longer, they're going to start wondering."
"let them."
the answer came so quickly you couldn't help smiling. you reached up, brushing the hair away from his forehead one last time. "you're drunk."
"so?"
"so i'm not taking your words at face value."
his lips parted as though he wanted to argue. instead, he settled for the most exaggerated pout you'd ever seen. you cupped his face, getting on your tippy toes to peck the corner of his mouth. "five minutes." you finalised, walking away.
he mumbled something under his breath.
you turned towards him. "what was that?"
"meanie."
your laugh slipped out before you could stop it. you opened the door, glancing back just once more. he was still standing exactly where you'd left him, watching you with the expression of a child whose ice cream was stolen.
"don't come down early," you warned.
he sighed dramatically. "whatever."
you gave him one last amused smile before slipping out into the hallway. the door clicked shut. not even three seconds passed before his muffled voice came through the wood. "this is a really long five minutes."

you’re not sure when, or why, but whatever mild annoyance you once had whenever the girls brought up keonho had bloomed into something harder to describe. not the kind of fluttering that arose when you had to meet someone new for the first time, neither the intense thumping that led to song lyrics being dedicated or a future of picket white fences and domesticity being imagined. it finds itself tucked carefully in the middle, closer to that playground-ish feeling of daisy rings and sandcastle promises. it was silly. you weren’t even sure if he knew who you were, and weren’t exactly set on finding out. for now, it was just a harmless infatuation. something surface-level, and likely to pass over.
the walk to stage felt ten times longer after your indirect confession. it’s as if the universe wanted you to soak in the childish nature of it.
leeseo kept sneaking glances towards you. when your eyes seemed to catch on every odd glance, her eyebrows would do an obnoxiously high lift.
“if you keep doing that, your eyebrows are gonna stay stuck up there.”
“i can’t help it. my eyebrows are just very satisfied with the news we just learnt.”
you can only scoff in response.
from behind, you can hear the sounds of rei, wonyoung and liz giggling on end, the only break being an occasional hush when one of them raise an octave too high.
yujin and gaeul are fairly silent on the walk, but their faces reveal their thoughts are within the same range as the other girls. their faces both hold that unmistakable smile that screams ‘proud mother after learning about her daughter’s first crush.’
you can’t help but think they’re overreacting. i mean, it was nothing more than a crush, maybe even a little less than. you don’t even know what to call it.
challenge filmings were strangely the hardest part of promotion periods. having to converse with, teach choreo to and film a cover with someone who was, more often than not, a complete stranger. then came the uninvited analysis from netizens on whether or not your interaction showed “insane chemistry” or was just “awkward as hell.” you understood the marketing benefits behind it, but would genuinely do anything else.
the journey to cortis’ green room was exactly that, a journey. your brain filed through every possible way in which your interaction could go. will it be awkward? guaranteed. will you stutter? probably. will you see keonho? okay, that one wasn’t as relevant as the rest, but maybe. you’re grateful that rei chose to follow you to cortis’ green room, before heading to film her own. although she was strangely persistent on going, despite you initially being okay with going alone.
“i can feel your nerves from here, ynie.”
her voice draws you out of your internal panic.“hm? i’m just bad with meeting new people, that’s all.”
“oh i know. but i also know you’re a little anxious to see your bae up close.”
“he’s not my bae—“
“yet.”
“… and i doubt he’ll be there, it’s around lunch time.”
“but you wouldn’t mind if he was?”
“…”
“gotcha. we’re here, by the way. go knock.”
she nudges you towards the closed door.
you can hear the unmistakable sound of chaos seeping out from behind the door. it’s filled with weird bird screeches and boyish laughter.
you turn back around to rei.
“there’s no way i’m knocking. you do it.”
“you’re the one filming with seonghyeon, not me. just knock.”
before your fist could make contact with the door, someone on the other side pulled it open.
“oh, hi.”
ahn keonho.
“hi,” you managed to squeak out.
martin appeared behind him seconds after.
“yn, right? you’re here to film with seonghyeon?”
“yeah, martin? and yes, if you’re not busy right now.”
“it’s cool, we were just about to get lunch. he can join us after,” he offers, before turning back to call for seonghyeon.
out of the corner of your eye, you can see keonho shift his gaze back and forth between you and rei before he turns his body to look back into the room.
seonghyeon appears at the door not long after.
“hi, i’m seonghyeon. nice to meet you.”
“yn. i’m sorry for taking out of your lunch time. i promise it won’t take long.”
“nah, you’re all good. we can head out now.”
“yo hyeon, we’re heading to the cafeteria now. join us when you’re done.”
you turn to rei, giving her one last tight-lipped smile before turning to head to your filming spot with seonghyeon.

as soon as you walk into the acai shop, yujin gives you the dirtiest look you’ve ever seen him give you.
but you could care less.
there were severely, excessively larger fish to fry, and they were in the shape of none other than tomiyasa yu.
your admittedly (and irritatingly) fine, toxic situationship from the year prior.
“yn!”
you turn to see rei and of course, just as yujin had warned, yu standing next to her. he’s in a tee and shorts, sunglasses on top of his head, pushing his hair back.
“rei, hi! oh my god it’s been so long,”
she grins, giddy.
“hey,”
you shouldn’t acknowledge him.
you really really shouldn’t. but you do regardless, turning to him and giving the best smile you can.
“long time no see yu,”
“long time no see,” he says, a breathy laugh escaping his lips. and then? then he smiles, “how have you been?”
“good. just working,” you reply.
“always so busy,” he nods, “don’t wear yourself out,”
you and yujin share a look.
“thanks for looking out for me,” you say through grit teeth, “but i’ll be fine,”
“well if you say so,”
rei smiles happily.
you kick yujin before he can make any smug comments or faces, and with a fake smile he slides their order against the counter.
rei happily grabs the bag, telling you she’d visit more and that the two of you needed to hang out.
you would’ve listened more if not for yu staring at you.
rei leaves the shop first, and you watch as yu grabs napkins. he turns last second.
“hope we can catch up,”
then, the door chime twinkles as he opens the door and closes it.
as soon as the two leave, yujin bursts out.
“is your friend stupid?”
you sigh.
“we told her we ended on good terms to not make things awkward,”
yujin gives you a judgmental stare.
“stop it, i know okay!?”
he continues staring.

A/N taglist is open! hello i am back again. . .sorry for the wait yall
Imagine if bakugou had a girlfriend who’s also a pro (she’s in the top 5) and she’s really popular and basically everyone’s hero crush, but they don’t know that she’s dating Bakugou. And at one point they get spotted together and everyone is like “how did he get her?” and Bakugou would be really smug about the fact that no one thought he could pull her. Could you maybe write hcs about that? Love you’re writing btw!
bakugou pulling a hero from the top 5
bakugou katsuki
legend : [Y/N = your name, H/N = hero name] you have a strong quirk, not specific though (anon said she so..) f!reader
fic type : headcanons [crack, fluff]
notes : thank you anon, glad you enjoy my work :) pro hero au!
minor spoiler warning for bakugou’s hero name. you were warned :)
*・゜゚・*:.。..。.:*・''・*:.。. .。.:*・゜゚・*
bakugou katsuki
you and bakugou have been together for several months now
it started when he just randomly asked you to be his after graduation, crushing on you for a bit before hand.
liking him too for a long time, you agree, and you guys start dating
in secret
fast forward to your pro hero days— you are both thriving
you crash into the top 5 quickly, respectively running a rank behind bakugou
he still mentions this till this day that he managed to beat you, but its very lighthearted
anyway— everybody LOVES you.
you’re number 3, and everyone acts like you’re number 1 for some reason.
your quirk is admirable and strong, and so are your actions.
you strive for the best, and you always manage to walk out with a upbeat atmosphere
you’re kinda like the hero zendaya.. everybody loves you
so yeah, you’re that admirable.
katsuki’s is two of these things
“hell yeah, that’s my Y/N”
and
“??? what the hell”
so you both were having a movie night, and it’s pretty late
yet— you’re still asking for more snacks.
not being able to deny you, you guys take a quick trip to the nearest 7-11
but uh oh!
paparazzi.
the next day, the media is practically falling apart with this new revelation
and katsuki’s just.. “stupid old paparazzi.”
you guys agreed to make this a secret, so— appearances with each other are rare
you guys don’t even look at each other when you’re in the same room.
so! dynamight and H/N going to 7-11?? at 2am??
that’s a little.. odd.
everyone’s like >:T how did dynamight pull H/N?? she’s literally a bad biddie
katsuki’s lowkey glad that the cat’s out of the bag
“yeah, she’s my girlfriend. anything weird about it?”
everyone’s shook when they find out you and katsuki were going out for several months
how do y’all hide it well??
but >:(
he knows he can’t go on dates with you anymore without some stupid old paparazzi in the bushes.
so that’s a con.
your simps are a little mad at him ngl, but that controversy dies down quickly
(since your true fans begged for them to be happy instead)
afterwards, everyone sees you as that power couple!
you guys will break the internet if they dig up any signs of your relationship before the news broke out
like.. matching clothes
and photos taken at similar locations at the same time (i hope that makes sense)
you guys eventually have an iconic interview with each other, and it’s a galore of shipping material
y’all will have fanfiction of all genres, and those videos like,,
“dynamight and H/N being cute with each other for 5 minutes straight”
it’s entertaining 🚴♀️
another pro to this is that you guys were trending on japanese twitter for a few days

SYNOPSIS Eom Seonghyeon is an introvert through and through. Not a lot of girls can stand that, and yet there seems to be only one person who he constantly likes to be around.
or alternatively, everyone tries to guess who Seonghyeon likes, not knowing the answer is closer than they think.
INFO. Idol!seonghyeon x idol!reader, reader and him are lowk the same person lol, ‘everyone’ & it’s js Keonho, reader is a member of Hearts2Hearts, barely any actual romance. wc. 3k
(note) credits to @uzmacchiato for the divider. Apologies for any mistakes!
“HEY, WHO DO YOU THINK SEONGHYEON’S BEEN TEXTING THE PAST FEW DAYS?”
The question comes after dinner, during when everyone collectively decides to do what they want for the next few hours until they sleep.
Seonghyeon was the first to leave, even though he would usually stay behind and wash the dishes.
Keonho had been curious for days now, and although it was common for someone in the dorm to get addicted to scrolling, Eom Seonghyeon was never the type of person to be so addicted to typing.
He’d see glimpses of his screen every now and then, most of it just open on either the messages app or Kakaotalk.
But every time he would try to get closer, Seonghyeon would catch him with that sixth sense of his and tell him to go away.
“Maybe he’s reconnected with a few of his classmates. That’s what happened with Juhoon.” Martin casually shrugged, using that leader voice that tried to be helpful but Keonho was never one to care about that.
“Yeah, but he’s been on his phone constantly, plus every time we do our promotions he’s always disappearing before we go on stage.”
Juhoon nods at that.
Seonghyeon was always vanishing off somewhere at least thirty minutes before they had to go on stage, and never told anyone where he was going.
At the Inkigayo stage, he was gone for an hour and didn’t even tell the staff he was gone.
When they tried to ask him about it, he would immediately divert the conversation to something else.
“You’re kinda right…” He mumbled.
“See? He’s been acting a little weirder too, like the other day he was talking to someone on the phone but when I asked him who it was he just hid the screen and told me to go to sleep.” Keonho said.
“Then maybe he’s talking to someone.” James casually suggested.
It wasn’t uncommon for idols to date someone, but usually they would tell their members especially if they were rookies like them.
Keonho shook his head. “I thought so too, but instead of acting all lover-boy like, it’s like the complete opposite.”
“People don’t have to act like they're in love with their partners when they’re around their members.”
“Yeah, but this is Seonghyeon we’re talking about. That guy couldn’t keep a secret if he tried, plus he’s more introverted than most of us.”
“You’re one of the shyest people here..”
“Shut up!”
Juhoon shook his head, stroking his chin like he was still in thought. “Well, he did hide that he was debuting from his school friends for years. I doubt he wouldn’t be able to lie, even to us.”
Martin sighed. “Honestly I think you should drop it for now. He’ll tell us when he’s ready.”
Keonho lets his words hang around the room, thinking about it for a moment before huffing, folding his arms over his chest. “Fine. But can we at least find out where he’s going thirty minutes before we go on stage? We have two weeks left, and I’d rather not have him caught by some stalker.”
His members looked at each other before all coming to a unanimous decision.
“Okay.”
“He’s already gone.”
Three words were all it took to make Keonho drop to his knees.
“And none of you decided to follow him?”
Juhoon shrugged casually. “Only one staff member saw him go, but he was too busy handling our outfits to go after him.”
Keonho groans, trying not to run his hands through his perfectly styled hair.
“Fine. I’ll go find him on my own.”
He storms out of their dressing room, only hearing sighs and tired murmurs from his members behind.
If they weren’t going to get to the bottom of it, then maybe he would.
The halls of M countdown were always busy.
Every five seconds, Keonho would have to bow to another group, offering them all a smile while also engaging in small conversations. Sometimes he’d bump into a staff member and ask if they had seen Seonghyeon, only for all of them to shake their heads.
He wasn’t sure why Eom Seonghyeon was acting so differently lately.
If he really had a girlfriend, surely he would trust Keonho with that information.
He bows to another group, saying a quick ‘hello’ before finding himself in the outer hallway. It was stuck between the idol’s parking lot and a few of his seniors' waiting rooms.
He didn’t expect to find anything there, so a part of him wanted to turn back.
But when he hears Seonghyeon’s familiar voice echoing through the halls, he knows he’s struck gold.
He rounds the corner immediately, leaning forward just to catch a glimpse of the scene.
Seonghyeon is sitting down against the wall, talking to someone right next to him.
He can’t hear much, but the smile on Seonghyeon’s face tells him that he’s obviously very happy to be there.
He’s just been meeting up with someone?
Keonho thinks it might just be a friend, after all it’s Seonghyeon.
But then he hears it–
A soft laugh that no one could coax out of Eom Seonghyeon.
Along with the faint giggling of a girl.
Eom Seonghyeon is laughing with a girl.
Keonho’s eyes widen, watching in shock as Seonghyeon continues to laugh.
He doesn’t even look remotely nervous or concerned that someone was going to catch them. His body language is open too–faced slightly towards the girl talking, eyes fully focused on the person in front.
Seonghyeon was rarely the type of person to talk to anyone outside of their fans. Sure, he was confident and sometimes even flirty with them, but unless he was truly comfortable he wouldn’t be leaving his guard down like this.
His laugh echoes through the hallway again, muttering something in between each breath.
The girl does the same, her laugh blending in with his.
Keonho tries to lean further, trying to at least see what the person was wearing.
Maybe it was just some staff or maybe a stylist–nope.
It’s none other than you sitting in front of him.
And that is all it takes for Keonho to relax immediately.
The tension that used to be in his shoulders is gone, and he even lets out a small sigh of relief.
You and Seonghyeon had always been close.
In the first week of debuting, you and Seonghyeon had somehow become friends, and only grew closer when your groups won ‘Rookie of the Year’ at the MAMA Awards.
For some reason, Keonho never considered you as someone Seonghyeon could be interested in.
Every time you interacted in front of him, it seemed to look more like two siblings rather than a couple. It was probably because you bickered almost all the time, and constantly got into a meaningless fight about something that even Keonho would think was irrelevant.
How did he not realise?
Keonho mentally slapped his forehead, feeling stupid for even thinking that something was up with his member.
He thinks he doesn’t need to confirm anything, as if that small chuckle that Seonghyeon let out was just a fluke.
He walks back to their waiting room, glad but a little disappointed.
Maybe some part of him hoped that something was really up with Seonghyeon, at least then he wouldn’t have wasted so much time pondering about who he was hanging out with.
It made sense, but something just didn’t add up.
Keonho spaces out, almost bumping into a wall that was right in front of him (should’ve paid attention, now a staff member is looking at him weird).
Did Eom Seonghyeon really spend 30 minutes before every music show just talking to you?
And what about the messages? Would he really spend hours at a time just talking to someone he swore was just a ‘friend’?
Something smelled bad, and it definitely wasn’t the sweaty towels left behind.
He walks back into their room, finding James and Juhoon stretching on the floor.
“How’d it go?” Juhoon strained. James was pushing against his back while he tried to reach for his toes.
As soon as Keonho mentioned your name, everyone seemed to accept the answer immediately.
“Oh. That makes sense.”
Keonho shakes his head, still not fully convinced. “The disappearances could make sense, but the text messages don’t.”
“Keonho.” James had said, staring at him from the floor with that menacing expression he only used when he needed to be serious.
Keonho swallowed thickly, hesitantly looking up to match his gaze.
“Let it go. If it makes him happy then it shouldn’t matter.” James says, standing up and helping Juhoon off the floor. “Just ask him if you’re really curious.”
Keonho sighs. “No, you’re right. I’ll let it go for now.”
But if anyone in his group finally decided to take initiative, then he’d be the first to help.
It was just a matter of when.
Kim Juhoon was never one to pry in others' business.
He was always chill about everything, and trying to dig deep into people’s secrets never ended well.
So when he wakes up one night, thirsty and somehow hungry, he doesn’t expect anything.
No one is really messaging him about some new gossip, and his parents have already texted him goodnight. James is snoring in the bed next to him, eyes probably wide open.
He sauntered into the hallway, too lazy to get his indoor slippers out.
He doesn’t expect anything, which is why it’s too big of a surprise when he finds Eom Seonghyeon sneaking back into the apartment.
He’s too dressed up for it to be a normal walk at midnight, meaning that he was either out to impress someone, or he had already been out for a while.
He watches as Seonghyeon takes off his shoes as quietly as possible, putting them off to the side for later use.
When he looks up, they make eye contact for a second too long.
Juhoon wants to chuckle, but as a responsible and caring hyung, he now has to ask the three most important questions:
“Why were you out so late?”
Seonghyeon awkwardly shifts on his right leg, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Just talking with a friend.”
“Did you get caught by anyone?”
Seonghyeon shakes his head, slowly making his way into the hallway. “It was too late for any stalkers or dispatch to catch me.”
“Did you enjoy yourself?”
Juhoon watches Seonghyeon’s face intently–the far away look in his eyes that tells him that he was reminiscing everything from the past few hours and the slight upward twitch of his mouth that makes his right dimple pop out–all signs that tell everything Juhoon needs to know.
Seonghyeon nods his head. “Yeah, I did.” He whispered.
Juhoon nods at that, letting him pass into their closet.
He doesn’t mention a single detail of what he’s just seen, and he surely doesn’t mention the fact that it’s too cold for him to only be wearing a shirt and jeans.
He knows that Juhoon won’t tell anyone, which is why he’s acting so casually as if the rumours wouldn’t completely obliterate them.
A part of Juhoon wants to get mad, maybe even call out Martin and James to scold him, but another part of him doesn’t want to, feeling like if he does then Seonghyeon’s smile would disappear (also because he was tired and it was already three AM).
As soon as Seonghyeon had gotten into bed, Juhoon couldn’t help but start to wonder.
For the first time in his life, he wanted to know who was making Eom Seonghyeon look so happy and make him almost risk their careers.
Which is why, two weeks after Keonho had made a whole ordeal, Juhoon finds himself talking with him the very next morning, telling him everything he saw last night.
“He snuck out? But I swear he got into bed at the same time as me.” Keonho muttered, leaning against the living room wall.
“Who do you think it is?”
He watches silently as Keonho thinks for a moment.
“Maybe it’s…nah, they’re just friends.” Keonho shakes his head, rubbing his eyes.
The image of you sitting in front of Seonghyeon, laughing and smiling had popped up into his head, but he had already denied the possibility of that.
“What about Ian? He had dating rumours with her, maybe they’re taking it seriously.”
“Hmm, okay. Let’s see how it goes tomorrow. We’re at Inkigayo with their group anyway.”
40 minutes before they go on stage and Eom Seonghyeon is nowhere to be found.
It had become routine at this point, with none of the members bothering to ask any staff anymore.
Juhoon and Keonho had left the minute the stylists did their hair and makeup, wandering around the halls while the hairspray set.
They were both on high alert, trying not to catch much attention and sneaking away like they were spies.
It didn’t really work well, as they had almost bumped into three other groups.
They reached the Hearts2Hearts waiting room soon enough.
Their plan was to just bow and act like they were just walking past, while they would really be looking at who was inside.
If they could, they’d ask if they’d seen Seonghyeon or Ian anywhere. Not too much of a genius plan, but enough to at least get something.
They bow as soon as they reach the doorway, hearing a few ‘hello’s’ from the girls in the room. As soon as Keonho straightened up, Juhoon had already decided to ask.
“Have you guys seen one of our members anywhere? He’s been gone for 10 minutes already.”
A girl who Keonho recognises as Jiwoo, the group's leader, stepped up.
The minute she said your name they both almost audibly groaned.
“Uh, are you sure? Not with Ian?” Keonho asked.
Juhoon almost smacks him in the side.
Why would he say that? Now the girls are obviously going to think they’re crazy.
He watches, a little embarrassed now as Jiwoo shakes her head, her blonde bob shaking everywhere. “Ian is hanging out with Sakuya, not Seonghyeon.”
Juhoon nods. “Alright. Thanks for telling us.”
They both say a quick ‘bye’ before walking back where they came from, disappointment evident in Keonho’s strides.
“Should’ve expected that…” Juhoon sighs, shoving his hands into his pockets.
Juhoon didn’t exactly know what to think of you and Seonghyeon.
You two were always either laughing or squabbling with the energy of old friends.
It was like everything between you two had to be platonic.
It reminded him of that one trope in the k-dramas his mother used to watch–the female-male friendship that would never get together even though all their friends shipped them together.
That was how your relationship spoke to him.
He and Keonho sigh simultaneously, entering their waiting room in low spirits.
“We’ll figure it out soon.”
“James and Martin know.”
You look over your shoulder to see Seonghyeon leaning against your back, scrolling through his nonsensical reels.
“Seriously?” You push the chips on the floor to him, hearing the bag rustle before he crunches into them. The faint smell of his Daiso perfume beams off of him, but the salt chips in between you diminish it to a background scent.
Inkigayo is a large building with little to no spaces where you can keep to yourself.
Cameras are constantly everywhere, and there’s no telling when a staff member will suddenly find you.
Luckily for you, you have always been good at finding hidden things.
During your debut, you found a private space that used to be a small space for changing. It gets used every now and then, but during comeback shows no one ever enters it.
The only person who had ever found you there was Seonghyeon.
“Yeah. Sometimes when I go see you, I’ll see them shoot me this weird look before they shake their head. Although, they don’t try to stop me.”
He pushes the chips back, allowing you to reach for them.
“I don’t get how Keonho hasn’t worked it out though.” He says while laughing at some reel, and not even two seconds later he’s already sent you a link to it.
“What about Juhoon? You never actually told me what he said anyway.”
“I did.” He shifts around, leaning into your shoulder now.
“You just texted me ‘he asked me questions’ and then slept.”
“Yeah, which is true. All he did was ask questions.”
You swat his shoulder, snatching the chips away from him.
“He just asked me why I was out so late and if I got caught.” He tries to get the bag back, only to fall into your side when you push them further away. The weight of it makes it feel like a ticklish jab at the side, making you almost let out a panicked squeak.
His head falls into the space under your arm, his freshly done hair feeling wet and spiky against your sailor costume.
“What are you–your hair gel is on me now!” You try to move further, but he suddenly wraps his arms around your waist and buries his head into the spot.
You fake gag, but it only spurs him even further.
“You’ll have to redo your hair.” You gritted out, trying to push his head away.
“You can do it for me anyway. You took a picture, didn’t you?” He says all of this while still moving his head around, his arms now enveloping your torso.
You internally groan.
“I have 10 minutes until mic checks. What the heck makes you think I’ll be able to do all of that?”
“You’ve done it before.” He stops, his hair looking exactly like the mess you thought it would be. You reach out immediately, already trying to smooth down the spikes at the back.
You push his head down, muttering something about how stupid he was.
You’re too focused to notice how soft his eyes have gotten while staring at you, and how a slight flush has already covered his dimpled cheeks.
He likes how absorbed you are into fixing his hair–the way you bite your lip in concentration, and how you run your fingers through it as if just five seconds ago you weren’t complaining about it. He lets himself relax into your warm touch, letting the sensation come through his scalp.
Eom Seonghyeon wasn’t sure what your relationship was, but a part of him doesn’t seem to mind it at all.

꣑ৎ IN WHICH . . juhoon takes your drunken self home ! — 𝒻t. juhoon x fem!reader // fluff ! : lowkey ? nonchalant juhoon , flustered juhoon , friends who obviously have feelings for each other (0,8k) ♡
“shit,” you groaned, staring at your own reflection from your dead phone. you tapped on it a few more times, trying to magically turn it on. when it didn’t, you clicked your tongue and shoved it down your purse. you sighed, eyes desperately searching the room for your friend as you clumsily walked your way amongst the sea of people.
“this bitch.. where the hell—” just as you turned around, your body collided into something.. hard? or rather someone. “sorry i wasn’t—” your voice trailed off once your eyes met his. “jju! where have you beennn?” you slurred, smiling widely.
he sighed at your drunken state. “how much did you drink?” you tapped your chin, thinking. “hmm, i know! i drank..” you paused, “..two shots?” you gave him what you believed was a convincing smile, but he saw through you.
“you sure?” he chuckled. you looked down, “ugh okay fine, maybe i had three?” he raised a brow. “fine, i drank six. happy handsome?” you huffed, crossing your arms. he could feel the tip of his ears go pink at the sudden nickname, but he tried staying calm. “let’s just get you home.”
he gently wrapped an arm around your waist, so you don’t trip over your own feet. “wait noo, why are we leavingg? i still wanna dance!” you whined, and he just smiled and took your dangling purse from your hand before it could fall. “because you’re drunk.”
“am not.”
“..okay.”
after what felt like ages, you finally neared his car, your jelly-like legs swaying with every step. “yay finallyyy! my feet hurt like hell.” he hummed in response, unlocking the car before opening the door for you. “watch your head.”
you tumbled onto the passenger seat with a dramatic sigh. he leaned across the center console, his scent briefly washing over you as he reached for the seatbelt. he pulled it across your lap and clicked it securely into place, making sure you were strapped in safely.
a small blush appeared on your cheeks at his sudden actions, and you only managed to mumble a small ‘thank you’ before he walked around to the driver’s side and slid onto his seat.
the ride home was filled with your random karaoke sessions and non-stop blabbering, making the car incredibly noisy until the exhaustion finally hit and you fell fast asleep against the window. he would occasionally take his eyes off the road just to make sure you were okay, trying his best to contain his lips from curving into a smile.
the gentle stop of the car putting itself into park woke you up. you blinked sleepily, your forehead leaving a tiny smudge on the passenger window. you almost jumped in your seat when the car door opened itself. “..oh, you’re awake?” he murmured. “jju?” you tilted your head, taking in the sight of him standing under the dim driveway light, looking effortlessly.. good?
juhoon stood awkwardly, wondering why you were staring at him without saying a word. eventually, he had to stare at the car window, then the floor, then at the street lights, before it drifted back to you. still, you still hadn’t said a word, staring at him like he hung the stars.
juhoon was nervous now, heat creeping up on his neck. did he have something at his face? he cleared his throat before speaking. “what? please don’t stare at me like that..” your lips cracked into a smile. “you just.. wow, you look so goodd. have i ever told you how handsome and cute you aree?”
his eyes widened for a fraction, and he looked away, hiding the very obvious blush appearing on his cheeks. he bit the inside of his cheek before speaking. “come on, let’s just get you inside.” still refusing to look at you, he offered a hand, which you took as you clumsily got up, adjusting your dress.
“woahh, is this your house?”
“it’s yours.”
“reallyy?”
“yeah, you just moved in.”
he fished the keys out of your purse, unlocking the door and giving it a gentle push.
“the house has nice colours! green’s my favorite colour, did you know that?”
“i know.”
you nearly tripped over the stairs, and his grip on you tightened. “careful, y/n.” you nodded, and somehow hearing your name slip out of his lips made your heart flutter.
“do you know what my favorite animal is?”
“giraffe.”
“how’d you know?” you giggled, as the both of you entered your room. he gently settled you down on your bed, before he crouched and took off your heels. “do you know what else i like?” he shook his head, looking up at you.
“i like your eyes. they’re really pretty, did you know that?” once again, he turned away shyly. under the dim light of your bedroom lamp, you could see the faint pink tint on his cheeks deepen, spreading all the way down to his neck. he got up suddenly, eyes refusing to meet yours. “stop that.” you tilted your head in confusion. “stop whaatt?”
“just stop talking,” he was looking at you now. “..please.” he let out a quiet sigh, running a hand through his hair in attempt to calm himself down before walking over to the edge of your bed to pull the blanket over you. “i’ll go get you some water.”
the moment he closed the door behind him, he clutched his heart tightly, feeling the way it pounded hardly for you. he brought both of his hands to his face, suddenly feeling very shy. “okay.. just get her some water—yeah, water.”
a few minutes later, he carefully pushed the door open, balancing a cold glass of water and a small painkiller tablet in his hands. he walked over to the nightstand, only to realize you were already completely passed out. his eyes lingered on your face, before softly caressing your face.
“you have no idea how much you drive me crazy.” he sighed.

─ 마틴 ୨୧ ✿ you’d think that with a six-foot-three stature, martin would be impossible to dodge, but the moment he leans his tall figure down to press his lips to yours, you instinctively turn your head away to look at the wall instead. it’s not that you don’t love him, it’s just that he’s been buried in music production for thirty-six hours straight ignoring you which makes you want to tease him a little bit before getting affectionate. martin freezes instantly in that half-bent position, his arms still braced against the armrests of your chair, looking completely blindsided by the sudden rejection. he doesn't get angry, but his dramatic nature takes over as he lets out a heavy, exaggerated sigh against your neck, muttering about how the leader of cortis gets no respect at home. he stays right there, hovering over you like a giant, brooding cloud, refusing to fully pull back until you give him a proper explanation or at least a consoling pat on the back for his bruised ego.
─ 제임스 ୨୧ ✿ james doesn't make a big deal out of things, so when he tilts his chin down for a casual, sweet kiss goodbye and you smoothly turn it into a cheek graze by turning your head, he doesn't blink an eye or drop his signature calm composure. but because he notices absolutely every microscopic shift in your body language, his eyes narrow just a fraction as he pulls back to properly read your face. he stays perfectly quiet for a few seconds, merely studying the way you avoid his direct gaze, before a slow, amused smirk pulls at the corner of his lips. james just finds it entirely comical that you think you can pull a fast one on him after all this time, especially when you’re usually the one clinging to his arm during movie night. instead of forcing the issue or letting you slide out of the room, he casually reaches out to trap your waist with one hand, pulling you a little closer just to tease you about why exactly you’re acting so shy all of a sudden.
─ 주훈 ୨୧ ✿ juhoon takes affection very seriously, so the exact second you turn your face away from his approaching kiss, his entire expression drops into something incredibly piteous and genuinely dejected. it’s almost funny how quickly his usual cool aura completely evaporates, leaving him looking like a completely heartbroken puppy whose favourite person just walked right past him without a second glance. he lets his hand drop from your cheek entirely, taking a half-step back as if he needs to re-evaluate the entire state of your relationship based on that one single dodged kiss. you have to quickly explain to him that you’re just wearing fresh, expensive lip gloss that you don’t want ruined before your dinner plans, or else he’ll spend the next twenty minutes sitting on the edge of the couch in total silence, subtly overthinking everything and casting dramatic, lingering glances your way until you finally give in and give him the attention he craves.
─ 성현 ୨୧ ✿ seonghyeon is so quiet and observant that when you dodge his kiss, he doesn't even ask you why, choosing instead to let out a tiny, soft chuckle under his breath as he casually sticks his hands into his hoodie pockets. he’s so used to living in his own head that he immediately treats your sudden evasiveness like a little puzzle or a game he needs to figure out. he doesn't try to lean in a second time or push your boundaries, but he keeps his sharp, fox-like eyes locked directly onto yours with a knowing, playful glint that makes you feel entirely exposed. he’ll just stand there in the middle of the room, blocking your path out of the kitchen with a relaxed posture, quietly waiting you out because he knows you can't survive more than two minutes of his intense staring before you break and tell him exactly what’s going on.
─ 건호 ୨୧ ✿ as the youngest, keonho already handles affection with a mix of playful confidence and hidden shyness, so when you abruptly duck beneath his arm to avoid his lips, his immediate reaction is a loud, defensive protest. he completely forgets his composure and lets out a sharp whiny sound, demanding to know what exactly he did wrong to deserve being treated like a total stranger in his own space. he’ll follow you directly into the next room, complaining the entire way about how unfair it is that he spent a grueling five-hour dance practice thinking about coming home to you, only to get the absolute cold shoulder the minute he walks through the door. even if you tell him it’s because his skin is freezing from the cold night air outside, keonho will just use that as an excuse to shamelessly wrap his arms completely around your shoulders, deliberately burying his cold face into the crook of your neck until you finally stop laughing and face him properly.
synopsis: you sneak into the ballroom at night in an attempt to improve your disastrous dancing skills, only for Juhoon to discover you and offer to teach you himself.
The ballroom of the Kim Estate was entirely too large.
That was the first thing you noticed when you slipped through the servants' entrance, your skirt bunched in your fists, heart hammering against your ribs.
The ceiling arched impossibly high overhead, painted with cherubs and clouds that probably cost more than your family's entire annual income. Three chandeliers hung dormant, their crystals catching the last of the evening light and throwing tiny rainbows across the endless collection of mirrors lining the walls.
You caught your own reflection in one of them: a girl possessing flushed cheeks and wind-tangled hair, partnered with the desperate look of someone who had absolutely no business being here.
But here you were, because in three days this room would be filled with the most important people in the county, and you would be expected to waltz among them as though you belonged. As though your mother hadn't spent the morning weeping into her handkerchief, lamenting your "utter lack of feminine grace" and predicting your social ruin. As though your father hadn't patted your shoulder with the sad resignation of a man watching a ship sink.
You were going to fail. You knew it with the same certainty that you knew your own name. The waltz was a language you didn't speak, a dance that required poise and confidence and the ability to remember which foot went where without your brain freezing in terror.
You walked to the centre of the floor, your footsteps echoing in the vast emptiness, and tried to remember the steps your mother had screamed at you for three hours yesterday.
Left foot forward. Right foot to the side. Close. Left foot back. Right foot to the side. Close.
You took the first step, pausing briefly when your ankle wobbled. You took the second, and your skirt caught around your legs, and suddenly you were pitching forward, arms flailing, heading straight for the polished floor with nothing to break your fall but your own stupid face.
A hand caught your elbow, then another settled at your waist, firm and warm, and you were pulled upright before your nose could make contact with the marble. You froze, heart pounding, mortification already crawling up your neck.
"Well," said a voice, low and amused. "That was certainly a creative interpretation of the waltz."
Your stomach did something complicated as you looked up.
Juhoon stood over you, one eyebrow raised, the corner of his mouth twitching. His dark hair was artfully tousled in that way that probably took him twenty minutes to achieve, though asingle strand had escaped the rest, falling across his forehead, and you'd noticed that strand at every single social function you'd attended together since you were children, alongside every other distinct feature you pretended not to catalogue in your mind.
You'd never admitted any of this to anyone, because what was the point? Juhoon was the second son of the Duke. You were a viscount's daughter who couldn't even walk in a straight line.
"I—" Your voice came out as a squeak before you cleared your throat. "I was practicing."
"Practicing what, exactly?" His hand was still at your waist and you were so acutely aware of this. "The fall, or the stumble?"
"My mother wants me to be able to dance at the ball." The words tumbled out in a rush. "She's been trying to teach me, but I'm hopeless. Absolutely hopeless. I can't remember the steps, and every time I try I either trip over my own feet or I step on someone else's, and last week I accidentally elbowed Lord Park in the face when he tried to show me the box step, and—"
"Lord Park," Juhoon interrupted, his brow furrowing. "He's seventy-three."
"Exactly!" You were babbling now, but you couldn't stop. "I nearly killed an old man. My mother said I have the grace of a startled ox, and she's probably right! I'm going to humiliate myself in front of everyone, and then she'll never let me forget it, and I'll be forced to marry some elderly baron with bad teeth because no one else will have me."
Juhoon was quiet for a moment before he let out a laugh, causing you to feel something warm unfurl in your chest. "I doubt that," he said softly.
"Doubt what?"
"That no one else will have you."
You blinked up at him, noticing there was a softness around his eyes that made your breath catch.
"May I?" He asked.
"May you what?"
"Help you." His hand at your waist tightened slightly. "With the waltz. If you'll allow me?"
You stared at him. Juhoon, the man who had noblewomen throwing themselves at his feet every time he walked into a room, wanted to teach you to dance.
"You don't have to do that," you said quickly. "I know you're probably busy with—"
"I'm not busy." His voice was gentle but firm. "I'm standing in an empty ballroom, and I just watched you nearly fall on your face. I'm not busy."
"That's not—I mean, surely you have better things to do than watch me stumble around—"
"I don't." He said it simply, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "I'd like to help, if you'll let me."
Your heart was doing something ridiculous in your chest. You opened your mouth to refuse again—because that was the sensible thing to do that would protect you from the inevitable embarrassment of making a fool of yourself in front of him—but the words wouldn't come. You were far too stuck absorbing him looking at you with those dark eyes that wowed the many.
"Okay," you heard yourself whisper. "Yes please."
His smile transformed his entire face before he guided you to the centre of the floor with a hand at your elbow, positioning you with careful movements that felt almost reverent.
"First," he said, stepping in front of you, "we need proper hold."
He took your right hand in his left, lifting it to shoulder height. His palm was warm and slightly calloused, from fencing, you guessed, or maybe riding. You could feel the ridges of his knuckles against your fingers and your skin tingled where he touched you.
"Your other hand," he prompted gently, and you realised with a jolt that you were supposed to be touching him. You placed your left hand on his shoulder, feeling the firm muscle beneath his jacket.
"Good." His voice dropped lower. "And I'll place my hand here, if that's alright."
His right hand settled at the small of your back, and you forgot how to breathe. Through the thin silk of your gown, you could feel every finger, the weight of his palm, the heat of his skin seeping into yours.
"Now," he said, and you could hear the smile in his voice, "you're supposed to look at me, not the floor."
Your gaze snapped up to meet his. He was so close—closer than any man had ever been. You could see his every feature and movement, including the slight part of his lips as he watched you. His gaze flickered down to your mouth for just a second, then back up.
"Better," he murmured. "We'll start with the box step. You follow my lead. Don't think, just feel."
You nodded, not trusting your voice.
He hummed the first few bars of a waltz, a melody you vaguely recognised. Then he moved, and you stumbled. "Sorry—"
"Ssh." He tightened his grip at your back. "You're anticipating. You're thinking too much."
"Of course I'm thinking too much. I'm terrified."
"You don't need to be terrified." He pulled you closer, just slightly. "I'm not going to let you fall."
You let out a shaky breath and tried to relax into his hold, attempting to portray that his words had no effect on you.
"Step back with your right foot," he instructed, his voice patient. "Follow me."
You did, and you managed two steps before your feet tangled. "Hopeless," you muttered, dropping your forehead against his chest in defeat. "I’m absolutely hopeless."
He laughed again, the sound rumbling through his chest and into your cheek. His hand came up to rest on the back of your head, fingers threading through your hair. "You're not hopeless," he said. "You're just nervous."
"I nearly killed Lord Park. He's still recovering."
"I’m sure he made a full recovery. He’d likely be rather flattered that you paid him attention."
"I paid him attention because I tripped over my own feet and grabbed his jacket to stop myself from falling. I almost took him down with me."
"You saved his life," Juhoon said solemnly. "He was about to die of boredom at his own dinner party. You gave him something to talk about for weeks."
You lifted your head to glare at him, but the moment your eyes met his, all your frustration melted away. He was looking at you with such open fondness that it stole your breath.
"You're making fun of me," you said weakly.
"I absolutely am not." His thumb brushed across your knuckles. "I think you're wonderful, and I think you're going to be fine at the ball."
"How do you know?"
"Because I'm going to teach you, and I'm very patient." His smile softened. "You just have to trust me."
After a moment more of looking into his eyes you nodded, and he pulled you back into hold.
You practised for hours.
Juhoon was patient in a way you hadn't expected despite his insistence. He never sighed or rolled his eyes, never made you feel foolish when you stumbled. He simply corrected your posture with gentle hands, murmured encouragement in that low, raspy voice, and guided you through the steps until muscle memory began to take over.
"When you step back," he said, his hand pressed to your waist, "you need to feel the floor beneath you. Don't just put your foot down, glide."
"Glide," you repeated doubtfully.
"Like this." He demonstrated, his movement so smooth and fluid it looked effortless. "You're not walking, you're floating."
He positioned you again, his hands steady. "Step back with your right foot. Good. Now to the side. Close. And forward."
You followed his lead, and this time, you didn't stumble. You completed the entire box step without tripping once.
"I did it," you breathed, exhilarated. "I actually did it."
"You did." His eyes were bright. "Again."
You danced the box step three more times. Each time, it felt easier, more natural. By the fifth repetition, you were barely thinking about your feet at all.
"Now," Juhoon said, "we add the turn."
"Already? I can barely do the basic step."
"You can do it perfectly, trust me."
You took a breath and nodded. He pulled you into the turn, and you followed, your body moving instinctively. For a moment, you were spinning, the chandeliers blurring above you, and it felt like flying.
"Perfect," he murmured, and the word washed over you like warm water.
By the time the sun had fully set and the ballroom was bathed in silver moonlight, you could complete the entire waltz without stumbling. Though there were still moments of hesitation and steps where your foot caught on your skirt, you could actually, majorly, do it.
"I don't believe it," you said, breathless. "I don't believe it."
Juhoon released you from the formal hold but didn't step away. He stayed close enough that you could feel his breath on your forehead.
"Believe it," he said softly. "You're a natural."
"I stepped on your feet at least twenty times."
"I lost count after thirty." His smile was warm. "I don't mind. It means I get to hold you longer."
The words hung in the air between you as your heart stuttered.
"Juhoon?"
He didn't answer immediately. His gaze had dropped to your lips, and the air between you seemed to thicken, charged with something unspoken.
"I have a confession," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"What?"
He huffed a quiet laugh, shaking his head. "I've been coming here myself every evening for a week to walk through the steps and practice it myself, all while trying to figure out how to ask you when you finally arrived with your family."
"Ask me what?"
"To dance with me." His eyes met yours, and there was something raw there, making your chest ache. "I wanted to teach you. But I also wanted... I wanted to spend time with you. Alone. Without all the prying eyes and the whispers."
Your throat tightened. "Why?"
He stepped closer, your joined hands pressed between your chests. His free hand came up to cup your cheek, his thumb brushing across your cheekbone with devastating tenderness.
"Because every time I see you across a room, I can't look away," he admitted. "Because you make me forget my own name. Because I've been losing sleep thinking about the way you laugh. And I thought—" He swallowed. "I thought maybe if I could just get you alone, I'd find the courage to tell you."
"Tell me what?"
His forehead dropped to yours, his breath warm against your lips.
"That I'm completely, hopelessly in love with you."
You could have melted into a puddle on the floor. Instead, you did something brave: you tilted your chin up and pressed your lips to his softly.
Juhoon made a sound low in his throat, something between a sigh and a groan, and then his hand slid into your hair and he was kissing you back with a sweetness that made your toes curl. His lips moved against yours like he was memorising you, tasting you, and learning the shape of you all at once. His other arm wrapped around your waist, pulling you flush against him, and you could feel his heart beating as fast as yours.
When he finally pulled back, his cheeks were flushed and his eyes were bright. "You have no idea," he breathed, "how long I've wanted to do that."
You laughed, breathless and giddy. "You could have just asked."
"I'm asking now." He pressed his forehead to yours again, his voice tender. "May I court you? Properly? I'll bring flowers, I'll write you letters, I'll stand in the rain outside your window like a lovesick fool, if that's what you want."
"I don't want you to get sick," you said, and he laughed brightly, free and utterly unguarded.
"Then I'll bring an umbrella," he promised. "I'll do whatever it takes."
You kissed him again, the rest of the ballroom blurring into the background.
Eventually the night of the ball arrived, and to say you were a nervous wreck would be an understatement.
Your mother had spent an hour arranging your hair, pinning it up with delicate pearl clasps that had belonged to your grandmother. Your gown was a soft lavender silk that your mother had commissioned from the best dressmaker in town, and it made you feel like a porcelain doll. You stared at yourself in the mirror and saw a stranger: someone poised, composed, ready to face the world.
You didn't feel like that person. Inside, you were still the girl who tripped over her own feet at every step, but that was all forgotten when you walked into the ballroom and saw Juhoon across the room, everything else fading away.
He was resplendent in dark velvet and silver embroidery, his hair swept back from his face, and he was looking at you like you were the only person in the room. He crossed the floor toward you, ignoring the curious stares of the other guests, and took your hand in his.
"You look beautiful," he said softly, and his voice made you believe it.
"You clean up well yourself."
He laughed, that low, warm sound that you'd come to love. "Are you ready?"
"I'm terrified."
"Good." His smile was soft. "So am I."
He led you to the dance floor as the orchestra struck up the first waltz. His hand settled at your back, warm and steady. He pulled you close—closer than etiquette strictly permitted—and began to move.
You didn't stumble once, and instead danced like you'd been born for it. Every step felt natural, every turn effortless. Juhoon guided you with such gentle precision that you felt weightless, floating across the floor like the moonlight itself. The other dancers faded into the background, the music washing over you like a tide.
"See?" He murmured against your ear as the music swelled. "I told you. You're perfect."
"I'm following you," you whispered back. "You're the one doing all the work."
"I'm simply holding you upright," he corrected. "Give yourself more credit."
The waltz came to an end, but he didn't let you go. He dipped you low, his face inches from yours, and whispered a promise that only you could hear. "Every dance from now on," he said. "I want them all."
You smiled up at him, your heart so full it ached. "You already have them," you whispered back.
When the ball finally ended and the guests began to filter out, Juhoon pulled you aside into a quiet alcove. The night air was cool on your flushed cheeks, and the stars overhead were scattered across the sky like diamonds.
"I meant what I said," he told you, his voice serious now. "Every word."
"I know." You reached up to brush that stubborn strand from his forehead. "I meant what I said too."
He caught your hand and pressed a kiss to your knuckles. "I'm going to marry you someday. I hope you know that."
Your breath caught. "That's... a very bold statement for a second dance."
"It's not bold if it's true." His eyes were warm, steady, certain. "I've known since the moment you stepped on my foot."
"Which time was that?"
"The first time." He laughed. "You blushed so hard I thought you might faint. You were so embarrassed, so flustered, and you kept apologising even when I told you it was fine. I realised then that you are the one."
"Juhoon—"
"I know it's fast." He squeezed your hand. "I know we should probably wait. But I've never been patient, and I've never been certain about anything the way I'm certain about you."
You stared at him, your heart pounding. Then you laughed, shaking your head. "I can't believe you."
His lips formed into a bright smile before he pulled you closer, your lips meeting once more in a much less anxiety-inducing dance, one you would much prefer over the waltz. This was much simpler, just the soft press of his mouth against yours and the feeling of his hand cradling the back of your head like you were something precious he was terrified of breaking, and you must say, it felt far more rewarding.
