Considering that it was Valentine’s Day and Oly’s birthday, Chase felt like he had failed on the gift giving. Especially since Oly had given him such a wonderful gift…but he figured Olyver wouldn’t think that. He never did. Chase was just certain that Olyver appreciated the sentiment. And Chase supposed that he didn’t need to try to top himself every holiday…but he did like to try. But oh well. Maybe next year.
He laughed at Oly’s statement and nodded, “I am actually. You smell terrible.” Chase joked before gently returning his kiss. The rest of the gifts weren’t anything special. Just some clothes, kitchen things. Odds and ends. Things that Olyver expressed that he needed or wanted but it wasn’t that much of an urgent thing. The male’s blue eyes watched the other as he opened up the gifts and just admired the sight. Like he often did.
“Do you want me to cook you breakfast?!” Chase randomly asked. He had gotten better at cooking over the years. Especially now that they had a restaurant. Sure, Olyver still did most of the cooking, but he could handle breakfast. It wasn’t that hard, “An omlette and some sausage? How’s that sound?”
Even though the gifts might not be anything special Olyver appreciated every one of them. Plus all of them would come to use which meant a lot to Oly. Only useful gifts. Although he was the one who always came up with things that honestly weren’t that useful, like the bracelet, but he couldn’t help not to buy it because it kinda just had Chase’s name on it.
“I’d love that”, he replied giving Chase a kiss. And then another kiss. And few more. All were those quick pecks and after the fifth Oly just smiled widely at Chase. “Can I help with it though or do I need to just sit still and look pretty like you usually do?” he teased.

Leave it to Olyver to give him a gift on his birthday. Sure, it was Valentine’s Day but what was more important than that was the birth of his beautiful fiance. But no matter how many times Chase told Oly not to give him something, and truly meant it, it happened anyways. It always would. That’s just the type of man his lover was. Not that Chase minded. It was absolutely adorable and incredibly sweet. It was why he loved Olyver so much.
Opening up the both, Chase’s blue eyes immediately lit up at the sight of the bracelet. He pulled it from the gift box and inspected it thoroughly, loving the engravement and the colors of it, “It’s wonderful. Thank you, Olyver.” He grinned and slipped it onto his wrist as he leaned forward and pressed his lips against the others. Olyver always knew what to get Chase. They were always simple gifts, but wonderful. Where as Chase always went too far and got Olyver everything under the sun. But he couldn’t help it. He just loved gifting things to Oly.
After a moment of admiring the bracelet, he grinned widely and pushed the gifts he wrapped closer to the blond, “Open them!” He exclaimed with a laugh and nodded, “Now, they’re not nearly as sweet as this but they’ll do. Just know for Christmas, you’ll be getting something really good.” What that was, he had no idea. But it was going to blow Oly’s mind, that was for sure.
Chase was right, no matter what Chase said about no presents Oly would always get him something. He would never stop doing that, mostly because he loved seeing the happiness in Chase’s eyes. Just like now. The bracelet was really simple and well, you didn’t really give bracelets to men that often, but to Olyver it had seemed special and he thought Chase might like it and really wear it, so he had had to get it for him. And seemed like Chase truly did like it.
“You’re welcome.” Olyver smiled into the kiss and then just watched at Chase as he admired the bracelet. He wanted to say he wasn’t sure would Chase like it, but he had a feeling Chase would just say it’s perfect because Olyver got it for him. So he didn’t say a thing, he just looked with a small smile at the man he loved.
Olyver looked at the presents that were pushed towards him and a slight chuckle left from his lips. “Okay, okay, I’ll open them.” He loved when Chase got this childish excitement in him and whenever that happened Olyver could never say no to that. Olyver decided to sit on the bed instead of staying squatted on the floor and he picked up the first present. He didn’t have any rush with opening it, he didn’t rip the paper, he carefully opened each fold from the tape and made sure to do it as neatly as possible. The first one was a cologne and Oly smiled at it. “Are you saying I smell bad and I should start smelling better?” He asked a bit teasingly as he opened the box to smell it and his smile got a bit wider. “It smells really nice”, he said and gave Chase a soft kiss to the corner of his mouth. He put the cologne back in the box, closed it and put it aside as he started to open the next one.

Sleep was always a great thing in Chase’s opinion. If he had the option, he would probably sleep for eighteen out of twenty four hours of the day. But Olyver would never let him do that. Unless he was sick. Then he had a pass. But since Olive&Chili was closed for the day, Chase knew that his lover would let him sleep in, which he was extremely excited for. It felt like it had been forever since he had since they were always up early for the business. Not that Chase was complaining. But he missed the bed.
Of course, the night before, Chase had prepared everything for Valentine’s Day and Oly’s birthday so that he wouldn’t be unprepared. However, he wasn’t expecting to be woken up by a sweet kiss on his cheek. Slowly, Chase opened his eyes and stretched out, much like a cat waking up for the first time all day. He hummed quietly as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes and they slowly settled upon the box being offered to him.
“Oh, Olyver.” He spoke and sat up, gently taking the box, “You didn’t have to get me anything.” Chase told him before leaning forward and kissing him. A smile crossed his features and he held up his finger before rolling to the edge of the bed and reaching under it to pull out a stack of gifts for Olyver. He placed them onto the bed and smiled widely, “But because you started it, here you go!” He exclaimed and grinned. The gifts were just some necessities. Sweaters, sweatpants, some lightly scented cologne, some odds and ends he wanted for the kitchen. Nothing special. Which now, Chase was feeling bad about because clearly, Olyver had thought about this gift.
Oly’s gift for Chase wasn’t really anything that special. He just had seen a bracelet at the jewelry store that kinda reminded him of Chase so he had their initials carved in it and well, that’s what Olyver had gotten for his boyfriend. Okay, it wasn’t just any bracelet, it was actually a bead one: Polished natural sodalite stone beads with a contrasting matte black onyx bead, and the bead that had ‘C&O’ in it was the only matte black onyx bead. But Oly really hoped Chase would like the bracelet. The light blue beads in the bracelet reminded Olyver from Chase’s bright blue eyes so he kinda wished Chase would like it as much as Oly did. Of course if Chase didn’t like it that would be okay as well, but still, he really hoped Chase would like it.
But what Olyver didn’t expect was Chase starting to spread presents all over their bed. He probably should have known Chase would get him a lot of things for his birthday, that was what he always did, but still every time it was a surprise. After all, Oly wasn’t really ever expecting anyone to give him anything because he didn’t feel like he needed anything. Chase, of course, knew that, but he still got things for Oly every possible moment he just could. And in a way Oly loved that side of Chase.
“You really shouldn’t have gotten all of these”, he said as he eyed at all the gifts. He probably could guess what some of them were by the shape of them, but whatever there truly would be Oly knew he would be happy and that whatever were in those presents they’d come to use.
From me to you || Holloway
It was Valentine’s day and also a day Olyver didn’t really talk much about -- his birthday. It was just a normal day to him and honestly he wouldn’t even bother about the whole Valentine’s day thing either, but now that he had Chase and even though Oly never cared was it some special day to give him something he had thought Chase would appreciate if he’d give something.
So Oly had came up with little something, something that really wasn’t anything big, something he wasn’t even sure what Chase would say, but oh well. It was still something.
Olive&Chili was closed for the day since they had decided to spend the day together without work for once and even though some of the customers had seemed to be a bit sad about it they understood why the restaurant was closed for this specific day. Although they thought it was only because it was Valentine’s day, not because it was that and Olyver’s 43rd birthday. Either way, Olyver had let Chase sleep late since Oly had been out for a run with Po and now he and Chase could just spend few hours of doing nothing -- like Chase liked it.
Olyver walked in the bedroom, stopped by the bed, knelt down and gave a soft kiss on Chase’s cheek. “Time to wake up”, he said gently and took out a small box behind his back and offered it to Chase.

He smiled softly as Olyver spoke, nodding his head, “I know…” He sighed softly, “I just don’t want to sound stupid to you. You’re going to be stuck with me for the rest of your life. I don’t want you to think I’m stupid.” He chuckled quietly. Chase wasn’t unintelligent. Not at all. But he could say dumb things and make the love of his life think otherwise about him. That was a worry for him. Why? He didn’t know. He knew something like that wouldn’t turn Olyver away but there was always that ‘what if’ in the back of his head.
Chase also knew full and well that Olyver didn’t like thinking about the resort yet Chase always brought it up. It was mainly because they had both come such a long way since then. Olyver had done a one eighty. He smiled now. He spoke. He loved. Those were things people there would have never thought the Marine could do. And Chase…well, he wasn’t a glorified prostitute anymore. That alone was impressive. Everyone thought that would be his path until he was too old to do it. But look at him now. It was exciting. He liked their lives. He liked looking back at the old and being proud of the new. Leaning forward, Chase pressed his lips to Olyver’s and pressed his hand tightly against Oly’s chest. He knew the kiss wasn’t that exciting considering half of his face was frozen, but he still tried, “We proved them wrong, huh?” He asked, his eyes smiling proudly up at his man, “I’m so happy we have.” Chase truly was.
“I don’t mind if you sound stupid. I never mind such thing. Why would I?” Olyver asked and brushed Chase’s cheek with his fingers. Oly knew he said stupid stuff himself too, even if Chase said he didn’t, Oly knew he did. They both did. But that just meant they were normal human beings, doing and saying stupid things time to time. Nothing wrong with that. “And I would never think you are stupid.”
The kiss, even though it was a bit weird once because of the local anaesthesia of Chase’s face, but the kiss made Oly feel better right away. The thoughts of the resort and the things that had brought him there weren’t nice ones, the thoughts of the resort in general weren’t. Often Oly’s head got lost into some dark place when he thought of the place, he even tended to get angry as he thought of the resort. But right now the anger didn’t manage to come there because the kiss made it disappear. “We are happy, that’s all that matters.”
Losing Some Wisdom||Holloway
Chase’s eyes softened at Olyver’s words and he could just feel his own heart warm and glow. He was certain that Olyver had felt that before but since he hadn’t, it was that much more special. Chase was a lucky man to have gotten Olyver. He still didn’t understand how it happened for him but he wasn’t going to question a good thing. Olyver was the constant source of new experiences and feelings in his life. For a while, Chase thought that this was all just a repeat for his lover but learning that it wasn’t made him happier than Olyver could ever know.
His blue eyes caught Olyver’s and he just kept that soft smile on his face (since it was all that he could manage really), reading the man’s features. Chase was a bit confused when Olyver’s expression hardened but his worries were put to rest at his declaration of love. Olyver wasn’t upset or anything. He was just serious. The man really did love him. Chase slipped his hand underneath Olyver’s shirt and placed his hand against the others heart, feeling it beat softly beneath his touch, “I love you too.” He spoke and placed his forehead against Oly’s. He wanted to kiss him but it probably wouldn’t work too well. This would have to do, “I’m glad my laughing gas experience could provide us this moment.” Chase spoke, truly meaning it. There were some things that were never easy to bring up but when they were, they made a world of difference in ones relationship. Chase felt that this put them on a whole new level, “Do you think the people at the resort thought we would last this long?” He asked, chuckling before he spoke again, “I knew we would.”
Oly smiled softly when he felt Chase’s hand on his chest and he knew just because of that gesture the bond between them was strong and it was something no one could break that easily. If it ever was able to break. Olyver really hoped it was one of those bonds that wouldn’t break no matter how you tried to do it. It was there for eternity. “You can tell me the whole truth even without the laughing gas”, Olyver said, “Even the things you might think are stupid to say aloud.”
The older male fell into silence at the question. The resort was something he didn’t like thinking about, no matter how that place had been the one that brought Chase into his life. Olyver closed his eyes and sighed softly through his nose. “Most likely they didn’t. Most likely they all think we split ways a long time ago.” Olyver wouldn’t even be surprised if people talked shit about them, but truthfully he hoped no one even remembered them anymore. That would be good for all of them. Especially since they lived in now and not in the past and past was behind and Olyver didn’t really want to think about past too much. He if anyone knew what the past could do to you.
Losing Some Wisdom||Holloway
Chase’s face reappeared from the pillow when Olyver spoke and he smiled softly, keeping his eyes on the other. Chase didn’t want to pretend they didn’t exist either. He liked having them. They were a constant reminder of how Olyver made him feel. Not that he needed a reminder but it was nice to have. It made the whole thing feel that much real to him because most days, he still thought he was dreaming and one day, he would wake up and be at the resort again. But it hadn’t happened yet so he assuming it never would. Thankfully.
He chuckled quietly as Olyver spoke and he rolled his blue eyes, “Sounds like something I would do while high.” He was taking a vow to never get mouth work done again. He snuggled down against the pillow a bit and he watched Olyver speak, an attempted smile still on his face. It was so good to hear that Oly had something he felt whenever they looked. It was a little thing like that that proved to Chase they were meant to be, “Really?” He asked, his arm tightening a bit around Olyver, pulling himself a bit closer, “Every time?” That made him so happy, “Have you had that before with anyone else?” Chase wouldn’t be upset if he had. That was the past. All that mattered was them now.
Olyver’s smile was soft but warm as he nodded at Chase’s question. “Every time.” It really was like Chase’s feeling of butterflies, but to Olyver it was that constant warmth inside of him. He knew it was the feeling of happiness and feeling of love and that only Chase was able to make that happen. “No. Only you.” It really proved that the love Olyver had thought he had before had never been the true love. He had cared for the ones he had been with, he had said he loved them, but clearly he had been wrong because he had been dumped eventually and gotten his heart broken. But now that Chase was in his life his heart was finally whole and all the wounds had been healed. All because of Chase.
Oly looked Chase’s eyes for a while in silence and slowly the smile faded away as a more serious expression came on his face. “I love you.” Olyver’s voice was strong and steady, the seriousness thick in the words. But Chase needed to know Oly really was serious about all this and that he wasn’t going to let Chase go.
Losing Some Wisdom||Holloway
Chase could see a bit of skepticism in Olyver’s eyes but he glad that the other didn’t question him about taking the pill. Even if he hadn’t, Chase wouldn’t have thought it through very well because if he just asked Olyver to lay with him, where would he put the tablet in the spare time? Just hang onto it in his mouth? Chase is smarter than that, he liked to be believe. He watched Olyver intently as he placed the glass on the table and he blinked a few times, keeping his ‘I just want you next to me at all times’ eyes at bay.
And they were kept away because of Olyver’s sweet words. He smiled softly and scooted over a bit on the couch and turned over when Olyver laid down. Like Olyver’s, his arm wrapped around the elder’s waist and he pulled himself a bit closer, nuzzling his head down into the pillow. He looked up at Olyver when he felt the man staring at him and he just smiled. Well, attempted to. Nothing really happened. But his eyes told how happy he was, regardless of his mouth situation.
Hearing Olyver’s question, his eyes widened and his cheek turned red from embarrassment. He actually told him that? Chase never had because he didn’t want to freak Olyver out. But apparently laughing gas Chase had no qualms,·“I do.” He said, his eyes staying on Olyver’s,·“Every time without fail. They settle after a few moments but they’re always there…” He never wanted them to go away. No matter how weird it was. Chase buried his face into his pillow after a moment and shook his head,·“You can pretend that they don’t happen if you want. I know it’s weird. I’m sorry.” But he couldn’t help it.·
The blush already gave Olyver the answer. Chase only blushed like that when something was true and Chase didn’t want to admit it. Olyver wanted to smile at that, because Chase always looked cute when he blushed. But the subject they were talking was kinda serious and Oly didn’t want to make Chase feel like he was doing something wrong if he blushed. So Olyver just kept on looking at Chase with the normal neutral expression on his face as he waited the answer to come out with words.
“I don’t want to pretend it doesn’t exist”, he replied and a tiny smile came on his lips.·“You asked me did I feel like that and when I said I don’t feel it like you do, you almost were upset because of it.” Olyver’s voice was soft and the look in his eyes was gentle.·“You didn’t give me a chance to explain how I feel, because you got distracted by something else again.” Oly’s smile got slightly bigger and he brushed Chase’s side with his thumb. “I don’t have butterflies when I look at you. I get a warm feeling inside of me. Like my heart feels bigger and warmer.”
Losing Some Wisdom||Holloway
Chase just watched Olyver as he laid on the couch, trying to hide away from his mass amount of embarrassment. His cheeks reddened a bit more when Olyver said that he did it all because he loved him. He would have smiled but it wasn’t really working out for him. He was sure that Olyver could see the smile in his eyes though. If there was one thing that the man always noticed, it was just how happy Chase looked when it came to his eyes. Eyes were the window to the soul, after all.
Once his flaming red cheeks settled a bit, he moved his head a bit more and proceeded to watch his fiance. He went into the kitchen to grab a glass of water and before he knew it, he was being it and one of the tablets he was prescribed. His blue eyes shifted between Olyver’s face and his hand, staring at the drug like it was a gateway to Hell. Which really, it could be. All it took was one thing to send someone back down the path of drugs. Chase highly doubted that Olyver would allow that to happen so he really had nothing to worry about. But he still did.
The younger of the two instantly recognzied the tone that Olyver gave him and he shot the man a look before he reached out and grabbed the painkiller, “And what if I don’t?” Chase asked with a quiet chuckle. He popped the medication into his mouth and quickly swallowed it down with the aid of the water. He sighed lightly and looked back to Olyver, “Will you lay with me?” Chase asked, almost giving the other puppy dog eyes, but trying his best not to. He would be alright if Olyver didn’t…he just wanted him there.
Olyver knew Chase would rather be without the painkillers, but Oly knew better than well some pills just were the ones you should take. If he would decide he wouldn’t be eating any pills, but without the pills he’d pretty much would be a total mess. So some pills were good for you, and so were painkillers for Chase right now. Olyver knew there was no danger for addiction in those, so he really had no worries with this right now. They both had been on the dark path, Olyver wasn’t even sure which one of them had been deeper in there, but he knew neither was there anymore and neither would let the other go to that path again.
Oly didn’t comment on Chase’s question, because there was no point to. He knew Chase would take the pill since they both knew there was no option of not taking it. He watched the pill disappearing into Chase’s mouth and for a moment he was about to tell Chase to open his mouth just to check he really had swallowed it. But that would just show like Olyver wouldn’t trust Chase. So Oly just nodded softly, took the glass of water and put it on the table.
His eyes returned on Chase and the soft smile finally came back on his lips. “I would’ve done that without you even asking”, he replied and moved to lay down next to Chase. He put his arm under his head and the other he snaked around Chase’s waist. For a moment Olyver just watched Chase’s eyes and then he had to ask the one question that had stayed in his mind from the moment Chase had said about it. “You told me you get butterflies every time you look at me.. Do you really? Or was it just something that happened because of the laughing gas?”
Losing Some Wisdom||Holloway
To be honest, Chase was a bit afraid to hear what he said while high off laughing gas. He had watched videos of people when they woke up and they were all hilariously embarrassing so he could only imagine what he did considering he was already an embarrassment. His blue eyes stayed up Olyver as he spoke about his name change and Chase covered his face with his hands, shaking his head, “I used to say that when I was a kid.” Chase distinctly remembered discussing with when he was first learning what a verb was, “Did I revert back into my childhood?” He asked with a laugh.
His head nodded and opened up the door, stepping out of the truck. He stretched slightly and grabbed Olyver’s hand when the other did so. His cheeks grew that much redder when he explained more of what he said, shaking his head the whole time. Chase really did turn into his young self. He could remember asking to drive all the time too. Of course, his parents weren’t nearly as nice about it as Olyver probably was but he still asked just about every day. He stepped inside their home and his cheeks were basically on fire from the next statement about the rings, “Oh, really?” He asked, upset with himself for asking such an ignorant question, “I wasn’t too far off with the superhero statement though.” Chase winked as he cupped his cheek with his hand.
Slipping off his shoes and jacket, Chase immediately wandered over to the couch and laid down on it, wanting to hide his face, “How on Earth did you put up with me?” He asked, looking to Olyver, “I would’ve slapped me in the face. That would’ve shut me up.” He laughed then groaned. Note to self: laughing hurt.
“You kinda went back into a child, yes”, Olyver confirmed with a smile. He didn’t mind it, it had been quite funny. Oly smiled t the superhero thing knowing Chase always said Oly was a superhero. It didn’t matter how Olyver didn’t see it like that anymore because he had failed in his job and he wasn’t a marine anymore, but there was no point on arguing about it.
Oly looked after Chase as the other decided to go and hide himself in the couch and he chuckled softly. "Because I love you", Olyver replied because that was the most obvious answer. If he wouldn't love Chase he wouldn't have listened all those questions and wouldn't have answered into them all patiently. But because he did love Chase he didn't mind listening the blabbering. Plus it was quite cute to see how Chase seemed to see everything with new eyes and how he seemed to be smiling even more with his eyes.
Olyver walked in the living room, put the painkillers on the table and went to kitchen to get a glass of water. He returned with the glass, put it on the table and sat on the couch next to his fiance. Olyver picked up the painkillers, opened the package and took one out putting the package back on the table and picked up the glass of water instead. "Take this", Olyver said and offered the pill and the water to Chase. "Soon the aching will get worse so take the painkiller before the ache starts." Olyver's tone was pretty much one of those that were still nice and polite, but still steady and stern giving you really little choice to do anything else than what he said. Especially because if you didn't do what he asked the tone would change and at that point there would be no space for any arguments. The weird marine feature..
Losing Some Wisdom||Holloway
The whole time Chase was asleep, he didn’t move. He didn’t open his crystal blue eyes. He just sat in the seat with his hand lightly in Olyver’s. Though really, the only reason why he was still sitting up was because of the seat belt across his chest. It was keeping him in the place. When the man went to the pharmacy to pick up his prescriptions, Chase still hadn’t budged. Which was probably a good thing. He likely would have been confused and then wondered where Olyver went. So really, it was for the best he was out like a night.
The only reason why Chase had been woken up was because of the soft fingers against his cheek. Normally, he probably wouldn’t have felt that but because his mouth was so sensitive and sore, he got his attention. His eyes blinked open and they looked around for a moment before they fell upon Olyver. He was definitely down from his high and his novacaine was just about gone, which was a shame. Now he was going to have to sit with the pain. Something Chase fully intended on doing.
Back at the resort and at the old sex club he worked at, he had dealt with a considerable amount of pain. He was sure he could withstand some mouth pain. Not only that, but there was a part of him that was afraid that if he took the pain medication, it would spark that addiction part of his brain and that wasn’t something he was willing to risk, “Hi.” He said simply, rubbing his eyes as he unhooked his seat belt, “When did we get home?” He asked and he winced, his hand immediately coming up to cradle his jaw line, “How was I? Bad?” Chase could only imagine the things he asked or said.
Oly’s smile grew slightly when Chase opened his eyes. Clearly the sleeping had made its job and Chase was back to his normal self, though that also meant the ache would be there. “Hi”, he replied softly and moved his hand to his own lap now that Chase was up. “Just few seconds ago. You slept the whole way here.” Then Olyver’s smile just grew slightly bigger and you could see the amusement on his face. “You didn’t want to be called as Chase, because to you it was a verb not a name, so you preferred to be Steve. Though I didn’t call you as Steve, but just so you know, you would want to be Steve. I guess it‘s better than being Bob.”
Olyver opened his door. “But lets get in. No point on sitting in the car and talk.” He stepped out of the car, waited Chase to do the same before he locked the doors and walked to the other side of the car to take Chase’s hand. “You also were extremely excited over the fact both of us know how to drive a car. You pretty much insisted to drive the car home, but when I said no you wanted to do it next time. So next time we are going somewhere it’s you who sits behind the wheel”, Oly explained as they walked to the front door. He unlocked the door and let Chase get in first. “You also think I’m a superhero and that you are too and we are X-men. Our rings also were extremely interesting to you. You said something about them being best friends -rings and only little girls had those.”
Oly took his shoes off and put his jacket in the coat rack. “And you really weren’t that sure what being engaged meant, you kept on asking me if it was okay to do this or that, mostly was it okay to look at me.”
Losing Some Wisdom||Holloway
His head turned towards Olyver when he told him to put on the seatbelt, which earned a stare from Chase for a moment, until he repeated the action that Olyver made. He snapped the belt into place and leaned his head back against the head rest, watching Olyver intently with a small smile. There were a few times when he wanted to push the button on the side of his door but Olyver said not to touch anything so he decided not to. However, he was curious about what it did. Perhaps he would ask when Oly wasn’t so concentrated on driving.
The watching continued for a few moments and at one point, Chase had reached out and grabbed Olyver’s hand. He figured that was something fiance’s did. And before long, Chase was sinking down into his seat a bit more, his eyes feeling suddenly heavy. It must’ve been the soothing feeling of the driving and watching Olyver or just the fact that he was tired from the operation. Whatever it was, within moments, Chase was out like a light. His head lolled over onto his shoulder and he fell into a well deserved, dreamless sleep with his hand still loosely in Olyver’s.
Oly glanced at the hand on his hand, then looked at Chase and smiled at him softly. He turned his hand a bit so he could hold onto Chase’s hand while he’d be driving. Chase was still Chase even though he was high as a kite. Or well, not that much as he was a while ago, but still high. After the high would came the ache and Olyver had to have pills for the ache. Of course he had an army of pills at home, but it was better to get the exact ones the doctor had prescribed.
Every now and then Oly glanced at Chase, noticing he had fallen asleep rather quickly. The smile on the older one’s face grew a bit and he squeezed Chase’s hand softly. Oly stopped at the pharmacy, locked the doors, just in case, as he left the car and headed to the shop. Luckily he was the only one there so he got the pills quickly and even quicker he was back in the car. Chase was still sleeping, so all was good.
Finally they were at home. Oly stopped the car on the driveway, opened his seat belt and turn a bit to look at Chase. Carefully he moved his fingers next to his lover’s face and softly brushed his cheek. “Chase, time to wake up, we’re home.”
Losing Some Wisdom||Holloway
He watched Olyver intently as the man spoke of the butterflies. Chase would’ve smiled at that point too because that was great news. He liked looking at Olyver and getting that feeling. Chase knew that meant good things. To him, it meant that they were going to last. If you could look at the person you love and feel like it’s the very first time, every time, you’re good to go. Chase’s head tilted at Oly’s answer but it fled his mind when the man’s strong, protective arm wrapped around his waist. And there were the butterflies again. Weird.
As the two walked through the office, he waved goodbye to the ladies at the front desks, keeping one of his arms around Olyver as well. Before he knew it, they were out at the truck and Chase looked around like it was the first time. The door was soon unlocked and Chase crawled inside, almost too literally, and leaned back into the seat, “Can I watch you drive?” Chase asked, “Or would that be weird?” He didn’t really know what fiances could and couldn’t do. He supposed that Olyver would tell him if he did something wrong.
Olyver smiled softly at the people Chase waved at, but most of his concentration was on holding Chase up and keeping him moving. He really wasn’t sure was he carrying Chase or was the other actually using his feet for walking. Either way, Olyver got them to the car, Chase managed to get inside and Olyver behind the wheel. They’d need to go to the pharmacy before heading home, but luckily that was on their way anyway, so Oly would need to just stop, get the meds and hop back in the car. It wouldn’t take long.
He put the key in, pulled his seat belt on and looked at Chase. “Put the seat belt on”, he said since he wasn’t going to start the car unless the seat belts were on. Safety before anything else. He smiled softly at the question and he nodded. “Of course you can. Just don’t touch anything.” Not that there were many buttons to push form the passenger’s seat anyway, but Oly felt better to make sure Chase wouldn’t get the idea of suddenly putting the hazard flasher on or something. Once Chase was safely locked with the seat belt Olyver started to car and started to drive to the pharmacy.

Chase tried to smile but it didn’t really work. But if he could, it would be wide and excited. He was engaged. That was wonderful. Chase stretched his arm out and petted Olyver on the thigh before he pulled his arm back and sat up again, “I’m hungry.” Chase knew that much was true. He stood up from the chair he had made camp in and almost plopped back down on his butt but he managed to catch himself. While still prominent, the laughing gas was wearing off, so that was a good thing. Olyver was a saint for having the patience that he did.
Without another word, he wandered over towards the door, holding onto the wall as he did so and nodded triumphantly when he got there. He turned around and looked to Olyver, waiting for him, assuming he should, “Will these butterflies ever go away?” Chase asked. His stomach did a backflip whenever he looked at Olyver so he was just curious. He was hoping they wouldn’t. They were fun. Made him feel like a child. He wasn’t sure, but he had a feeling that wasn’t something everyone had, “Do you get them too?”
Even though Chase’s face didn’t quite follow his orders Oly could see the smile in his eyes. He smiled back to him, though the smile disappeared a bit when Chase decided to sit again. “You can’t eat in next few hours”, Olyver said. He knew it wasn’t nice to wait that long when you were hungry, but there was no other option. Doctors orders. He reached his hand out to Chase when the man decided to get up. His hand was there ready to grab Chase if he wouldn’t be able to stand on his feet. Of course just one hand wouldn’t be enough, but Oly had quite quick reflexes so he could bounce up if he needed to.
And then came the almost-dropping-back-down. Olyver was on his feet right away, his hands were close to Chase, but he didn’t touch the other. He was just making sure Chase really wasn’t about to fall down. He seemed to get his balance back and slowly Olyver moved his hands away. As Chase started to walk Olyver stayed a step back, still ready to catch his boyfriend if needed to. The smile returned on his lips at Chase’s victorious expression. The question about the butterflies brought a loving smile on the older one’s lips. “Probably they won’t”, he replied and walked to the door opening it for Chase. “I think I do, but in a different way than you.” To Olyver it wasn’t really butterflies, to him it was that constant feeling of warmth in his chest. Like his heart was glowing every time he was looking at Chase. “But come on, lets go home”, he said and wrapped his arm around Chase’s waist so he could help him with the walk to the car.

Chase nodded when Olyver said it was a best friend ring. He knew it. It was the only thing that made sense. He just kept looking at the date on the ring, wanting to figure out what it was but nothing was coming to mind. Then again, nothing really was. So that shouldn’t have been surprising. His eyes widened when Olyver told him that the rings were engagement rings, “You’re engaged?!” He asked and looked to his own ring, “Why does mine look like yours? Am I engaged too?”
His question was quickly answered when Olyver said what the date was, “You’re engaged to me?!” The male asked, his jaw ajar, “Really?!” Chase looked at Olyver’s ring closely then at his own, then to Olyver’s pretty face, “We’re allowed to be engaged?” He asked and just stared at Olyver, “That’s why I look at you and feel funny.” Chase said with a smile, “Like butterflies.” He clarified, “I thought it happened with everyone but I looked at the other guy and didn’t have them.” That made more sense, “We’re really engaged?” Chase just couldn’t believe it, “That’s so awesome.”
“Yes, I am engaged and you are too.” It felt kinda weird to have to explain all this to Chase, but Oly knew it was better to reply to everything while Chase was all over the place because of the laughing gas. He smiled softly at his fiance and nodded. “Yes, I am engaged to you.” He glanced towards the door for the doctor -- who luckily weren’t there -- but Oly surely hadn’t paid any attention what the man had looked like in general. If he would have been hot maybe Chase would have had other thoughts about him, but clearly he hadn’t been that hot that Chase would’ve considered that guy hot.
Oly chuckled softly. “Yes, we really are engaged. We’ve been together since 12th of September 2013 and engaged from 11th of May 2016. Today is 17th of July 2016.” Maybe the exact dates would make Chase more sure that this all really was true. They really were together and had been that for quite some time already and Olyver wouldn’t change even one day away. His life had gotten a meaning after Chase had stepped into it and now every day felt perfect, like finally nothing was missing. He had Chase and Chase was all he needed to be happy and whole.

Chase pouted a bit when Olyver said that he couldn’t drive them home, “Can I drive us somewhere later?” He asked. It was kind of funny that Chase was wanting to drive them somewhere considering, normally, he wasn’t the biggest fan of driving. He hated sitting still for so long and staring at the road. Normally, the driver was Olyver. His pout faded when the other agreed with his name, “Steve.” He repeated and laughed again. What a terrible name, really. But right now, it was perfect.
As he sat up in the dentists chair, he swayed in the slightest but held his ground, looking to Olyver. His head nodded in agreement when Olyver said to stay put and he moved back into the chair, turning onto his side and pulling his legs up as much as he could. He leaned his temple against the head of the chair and just watched Olyver. Much like Chase usually would do. Even while high as a kite, that would never change. Even if he didn’t really know what was going on or even who Olyver was at that point. He just couldn’t help it.
Realizing that he hadn’t looked down at his hands when Olyver said to, Chase did so and inspected them, expecting to find something there. All he found was a ring. He blinked a few times and looked to Olyver’s hands, spotting a similar ring, “Are we best friends?” He asked, “Are these like our best friend rings? Little girls have those a lot, don’t they?” He asked, laughing a little bit again, “We’re not little girls.” Chase said, amusement in his voice. He took the ring off and looked at it closer, noticing the engravement of a date, “What’s that mean?” He asked.
“You can drive us somewhere later”, Olyver agreed and gave a nod in confirmation. The truth just was Oly wasn’t sure how eager Chase would be with fulfilling his own request. It might be Chase would be saying no when Olyver would say it was his turn to drive. Or in this case, Steve’s turn to drive. Oly really would have to tell Chase about this name thing once he’d be back to normal.
He watched as the other was staring at his own hands and finally found the ring. “Kind of a best friend ring”, he said with a soft smile. To Olyver their engagement rings weren’t just about a promise of marriage, it was indeed a promise of a lasting friendship. Olyver looked down to his own hand and his own ring. “They are engagement rings”, he finally said and looked back to Chase. “That date is the day when I proposed you and you said yes.”
