This is my Tumblr page for my Encanto Horror AU!

Basically the Miracle places a curse on the family after Bruno has the vision and tells the family. The curse is that when the next Madrigal is born, if the family is still dysfunctional and what not, then the Miracle will curse all who has a gift. Abuela tries to make everyone even more perfect to try to keep the curse from affecting the family, but this makes everything worse.

As time goes on and it’s Antonio’s time to get his gift, the family is even worse than it was then. So it’s to no surprise that when Antonio touches the doorknob everything goes wrong. The Madrigal family, excluding those without a gift (Augstín, Félix, Abuela, and Maribel), turns into monsters. Félix, Augstín, and several townspeople are killed. Casita eventually is able to drag the cursed Madrigals to their respective rooms and locked them in.

But the damage was already done. The townspeople were furious, many of them voting for the deaths of the now-monsterous Madrigals. But Mirabel, with her heart of gold, argued against it. The townspeople, who blamed her the most due to her lack of powers, gave her an ultimatum: either she kept them locked inside the Casita away from the town or they would kill her family. Mirabel agreed and was tasked to keep them at bay. Abuela, who was quickly experiencing a decline in her health, moved in with the Guzmán family.

That leads to, around a year later, the beginning of the story! Which I will be expanding upon in future posts!

Look at me, back from the dead! I can’t say I’ll be here long, but let’s make the most of it while I’m here!

So let’s talk about Mirabel.

One of the biggest things I wanted her to represent was isolation. She is not quite apart of the townsfolk that populate the Encanto, nor is she a full on Madrigal. This leads, in part, to the separation that led to her watching over her family. It only got worse once her father and uncle died (which took place the day that the change happened on Antonio’s birthday).

But she is not just isolated. She’s smart, she’s crafty, she’s brilliant in every way. Mirabel is the persistent candle that flickers on even against harsh winds. There is no one else in the entire Encanto with a heart as big as hers, and it takes a very long time for people to realize that. Late enough that she’s more cynical and bitter, quicker to lash out and quieter. She’s hurt, and still afraid, but after all that she’s healing.

The downfall of the Madrigals was always destined to happen thanks to Abuela. It’s Mirabel who ends up saving them.

Listen, this drawing is definitely not perfect. But I have been low on inspiration and you all deserve something. So here is a quick doodle of Mirabel!

Some quick notes about her character! The reason why she has pants instead of a skirt is because it kept on getting snagged and torn on stuff while she was wrangling the others. So, very very reluctantly, she decided to wear pants. But she does switch back to wearing skirts after the curse is lifted!

On the topic of outfits, she doesn’t really wear her embroidered clothing during the cursed period. Mostly because she didn’t want her clothes, especially the ones she spent a lot of time working on, to be ruined. But, once again, they are brought back after the curse is lifted! (Her pants have pockets but I forgot to add them. I also added fingerless gloves for some reason, but I like them so they’re staying.)

She does have scars (a lot of them actually) but I don’t have a definite answer for how many. However the scar on her shoulder and her cheek are definitely big ones! I’d be happy to hear if you all have any more ideas for more though!

Again, this isn’t perfect, but let’s face it- I haven’t drawn people in a while and I’m rusty. I’ll work on her design some more later and get a better reference. And we might be getting some pictures of the cursed Madrigals soon so stay tuned!

Monster Luisa

A/N: Her cursed form is inspired by a comment by @koirambles, thank you Koi for this idea!

Luisa’s form is a looming Cerberus with shaggy brown fur, bright red eyes, and three heads. She has a long tail and pointed ears. Her build is much like a boxer’s and is more suited for brute force.

She is really big. Like ridiculously big. And super strong. It makes it easy to locate her, but it’s hard to corral her back into her room. Luisa is tall enough to where her shoulders reach Mirabel’s waist and her teeth are long enough to complete destroy her wrist if she bit down.

But there’s one positive to Luisa- she is very much a hunter. She’ll only attack if she needs to. So if she’s hungry or feels threatened she’ll attack. But otherwise she’s pretty calm.

But, of course, Mirabel’s life is never easy. After awhile Luisa began to see her as a threat, and it’s attack on sight.

Mirabel likes to joke it’s the cain-ine instinct (yes this is a pun). Luisa, later on after she’s been cured, doesn’t find this very funny.

Mirabel has a few scars from some close calls. The worst is a long slash on her back that runs from her left shoulder to the right of her waist. It nearly destroyed Luisa when she finally saw it, a month or two after being cured.

When it comes to coming out with the others, the only time she’s try to escape is when she’s hungry or she senses one of the others. There’s been a few times she’s escaped at the same time as Antonio, and during these moments she treats him like a pup and becomes much more agressive to protect him.

When Luisa is cured, she’s a complete wreck. She hates that she always has a craving for meat and her canines are sharper. She hates that it’s like she’s constantly thinking three different thoughts at once, making her feel dizzy and unsteady. Honestly, it really messed her up.

Monster Isabela

Trigger warning: allusions to choking with a vine and poisoning.

She is basically a gorgon, but instead of snakes in her hair she has vines. She can’t turn people into statues with her eyes either, but she can grow sharp/dangerous/violent plants to capture people. Her gaze can also cause one to become overcome with an intense fear, though it’s possible to become used to it. Her skin is much tougher to make it harder for her thorns to pierce her.

She isn’t as dangerous as her other family members as a monster, but she is fairly dangerous. You have to watch out for her plants and her hair vines, but she’s fairly easy to deal with.

During the cursed period, Mirabel had to confront her once or twice a week. With the help of Casita she was able to manage, but Mirabel became intimately familiar with being poisoned (many a times she was pricked and ended up becoming sick later on. Thankfully most of Isabel’s poisonous plants had to be indigested to actually kill someone).

Mirabel intimately hates thorn vines. She also hates anything around her neck. You can connect the dots.

Isabela will, very rarely, be out at the same time as Camilo. This will usually end up with them both fighting while Casita and Mirabel tries to corral them into their rooms. When this happens Camilo is usually too sick to escape and Isabela is agitated enough to sulk in her room. These are, to Mirabel’s pleasure, her favorite days.

After being cured, Isabela found it much harder to create “pretty” plants. On the other side of the spectrum, plants that are dangerous became much easier to create.

People also became much more scared of her, especially when they looked into her eyes. She isn’t sure whether she likes it or not.

After being cured, she rarely creates plants around the family. Especially if Mirabel is around.

Her relationship is very strained with Mirabel, and even though she’s trying to fix it, Mirabel is much colder to her nowadays.

Monster Camilo

Trigger warning: Alluding to attacking with intent to cause serious harm/death.

• Camilo, in my AU, is a grey slime monster, much like SCP 999. He is very slippery, and escapes more often than not.

• Out of everyone, he escapes the most. It’s mostly due to the fact that he is both slippery and relatively harmless.

• I say relatively because he absolutely will jump on someone’s face and smother them to death (Mirabel is, unfortunately, intimately familiar with this). He just doesn’t do it often. He prefers simple shenanigans and mischief.

• He’s entirely grey and a single entity. He can’t separate his slime from his body and, if poked or stabbed, he will respond in pain. However, he can change his form.

• Likes to cause mischief in Casita. Has definitely opened his family’s doors, but after an incident with Antonio he doesn’t do it anymore.

• One of the least murderous out of the entire family (including Mirabel).

• He likes to fit into very small spaces.

• Post Curse Camilo gained a very odd habit of hiding in small spaces. He hates it.

• Post Curse Camilo also has a few memories of his time while being cursed. He doesn’t like to think about it.

• He feels very bad for what happened while he was cursed.

I’ve been thinking about my Encanto horror au.

What happens in it is that the family is cursed, yeah? And everyone who has gifts are turned into monsters.

Well I’ve been thinking about what everyone would be, and this is what I have so far.

Bruno would be a giant dune worm. He would bury himself in the sand, hidden until Mirabel finds him. His rats would probably be tiny dune worms, because that’s low-key adorable.

Pepa would be a storm cloud. Literally, she’s a giant storm cloud. Probably the most dangerous, since she doesn’t really have a form.

Camilo would be a slime. Kind of like SCP 999 he would be a grey slime that could change shape and fit into small spots.

Antonio would be a chimera. A combination of a lion, a goat (?), and a snake. He’d be a very small one, considering how young he is, but nonetheless deadly.

Isabela would be a plant gorgon. Instead of having snakes in her hair she’d have vines. I’m still on the fence about her keeping her powers, and besides attacking with her vines I’m still determining just what she can do.

All that’s left is Julieta, Dolores, and Luisa. I’m still iffy about what kind of monsters they’d be.

For Julieta I can kind of see her as a mimicry of the SCP Plague Doctor. A shadowy figure that brings death with its touch.

For Dolores I’m having the most trouble. Maybe a banshee? It’d kind of fit her…

For Luisa I’m think either a metal golem or a demigod type monster. Kind of like a monstrous Hercules. Either would fit her I think.

Extremely Detailed Character Sheet Template

Hi! This is the actual character sheet that I use for my main characters! (My side characters usually get a much shorter one.) I will normally do this character sheet, write a lot of drabbles (or the entire first draft of the book *cough LnD cough*) and then re-do the character sheet once I get a better feel for who the character is. Characters tend to develop themselves as you write them, and it’s nice to keep this kind of information handy (and accurate to the current iteration!) while writing.
