Tarot for Deity Identification
I've noticed the question popping up about how to know which deity to work with/worship. This wee tarot method is for those unsure of that.
Firstly, you'll want to consider what kind of deity you would be willing to work with. This is because not every deity that pops up will resonate with you at this point in time, but you may feel obliged to work with them if you haven't already considered what you want. For example, maybe you're uncomfortable working with a death deity after a recent bereavement, or perhaps your personal identity is more so represented by a love deity rather than a war one.
Secondly, you're going to design your spread. Do you want the cards in a circle to represent the deity's warmth shining upon you like the morning sun? Or maybe you'd prefer an infinity sign to symbolise the cycles the deity will help you break? Or perhaps you'd like a utilitarian straight line for a straight-forward kind of deity. Get creative! Bring out the crystals and herb jars associated with the type of deity you're drawn to if you'd like - there's no harm in a little bit of meddling (As Above So Below, after all).
Of course, if one deity is already knocking on your door, there's very little the decor of your front yard is going to do to draw somebody completely different in.
Once you've chosen your spread shape, it's time to pick the questions you'd like answers to. Some examples include:
What are the deity's symbols?
What cards best symbolise the deity's myths?
What element is the deity associated with?
Feel free to ask questions more than once!
Now, you get to consider whether you want to work with/worship that deity. Some questions you might like to ask could include:
What trials will they put me through in the name of growth?
What positive effect will the deity have on my life?
How will the deity's presence in my life influence my mental health?
Finally, number the questions and place the numbers on your spread, then pull some cards!
Disclaimer: I feel I should say that this is just a personal strategy, I didn't get this from a book or a reputable source, so if you choose to use this method, please take it with a pinch of salt.
