A homemade meme for you all. Happy Disability Pride Month!
I love you unconventional offerings of devotion.
I love you addicts who have gods that accept them as they are.
I love you addicts who are getting help because of their gods.
I love you children who were just like me and naming their toys and tools after their gods.
I love you people who are atheistic and have friendship with deities they don't worship.
I love you casual practitioners that worry they aren't "good enough".
I love you devotees who struggle with reality and mental illness.
I love you homeless devoted who are ignored by society.
I love you people who are working jobs (in any respect for any amount of hours) and don't have energy to dedicate to your gods.
I love you disabled devotees that want to do more but cannot.
I love you artists who hate their own artwork regardless of how much it came from the heart.
I love you all who do your best but life is kicking you in the face every turn you get.
Be good to yourself. You are the only one that is judging your worth.
Low Energy Spring Witchcraft
Spring is unfolding outside my window, and though I can’t always meet it with the full energy I long for, I still find ways to greet it. Here is how I've been supporting myself lately as a witch who often has little to no energy:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀໒꒱. 🌱 ⠈ ⠂ ⠄ ‹𝟹 🌷͙֒ . ₊˚ *ੈ
🪟 If able, I crack the window open and let the breeze in. I take my time to notice the new sensations that come with it. I feel the fresh air against my skin, smell the lingering scent of flowers and soil, hear birds chatter in nearby trees, and try to name their songs. If I am unable to, I still try to look outside my window and watch the clouds drift by. Sometimes I will turn on my little fan for air flow, and light a candle that reminds me of Spring.
🌼 I sit in sunlight when it finds me, letting it warm my face with its strength. I have prisms hanging in my windows that cast rainbows across my room as well.
🌧 If it's raining, I thank it when it falls. I notice the sounds and watch the droplets hit the window. Sometimes I'll open my window just a crack to let in that cleansing energy.
🍵 I steep tea with herbs that remind me of green places, like mint and lemon balm. If I'm unable to do so, I thoughtfully sip my water, reminding myself of the ways I'm connected to this element and its role in nature. Alternatively, I drink pre-made tea that I steeped ahead of time (when I had the spoons to do so) and kept in the fridge. (Tea usually keeps in this way nicely in an airtight container to drink throughout the next few days, in my experience. It will last longer if the tea has a higher level of acidity. Make sure you dispose of it if it gets cloudy or tastes off.)
🪴 I keep crystals and houseplants near my bed and couch, where I often sit. I have a pothos and spiderplant that are both very low maintenance.
🧺 I try to change my clothes and be intentional with my color choices. For example, soft greens and earthy browns as small reminders that I am part of the world turning. If I don't have the energy to change, I try to use the intentions of whatever colors I'm wearing/are around me to motivate me for the day.
📖 In days past, I picked flowers and placed them into vases. On low-energy days, I'll tuck fallen petals into pages of books, preserving little moments of Spring. Keeping around flowers, plants, or even just a jar of soil makes me feel more connected to the earth this season.
🍓 I keep simple, easy snacks nearby if I can't get up. Right now, I have a container of peanuts (grounding, stability, energy, prosperity). If I have the energy to get up, I try to eat at least one thing that is fresh and in season.
🎧 I listen to music that connects me with the energy I want to focus on. I have designated playlists for different seasons, feelings, and intentions. (I may post them on here someday.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀. .⠀ ‧˚⠀⠀ 🫧 🪺⠀ ɞ⠀⠀ ˚‧。⠀⠀ :*・゜ 𓍊𓋼𓍊
Even if your practice looks like rest, like noticing, like being gentle with yourself, you’re aligning with the turning of the earth, and that’s magic enough. Let Spring’s renewal be a reminder of that.
chronically ill witches. always remember to rest HEAVILY both before and after doing a spell. use energy from objects (like crystals or amulets) and the earth instead of your own. ground and protect regularly. you’re doing great <3
Low Energy Devotional Activities and Ways to Connect with the Gods
Let's be honest, religion and consistent practice can be HARD, especially when you're chronically ill, disabled, mentally ill or neurodivergent. This is a list of lower energy practices you can do to connect with your Gods when you're having a rough day.
Pray. You don't have to say the prayer. You don't have to do the full cleansing and offering. Just think about the prayer. It could be as simple as "'Deity Name', thank you. I'm thinking of you and appreciate you."
Dedicate any self care you do to the Gods. You've got to take meds? awesome. it's now a devotional activity.
If you can, light a tea light candle. You can think about who you're dedicating it to as you're lighting it.
Tell them about your day. Have a simple conversation with them (again, this can be in your head if needed).
Offer some water! Water is a great offering if you don’t have the energy to cook, collect or buy something.
Incense is also a great offering because you can light it then forget about it and your house won’t burn down (if you follow regular safety measures).
Resting. Your deities want you to be okay. Dedicating your rest to your deities is especially great if you feel guilty for allowing yourself time to heal.
Turn on a video of someone reading mythos!
Put on a deity playlist. There are plenty of pre-made ones on Spotify.
Veil or bind your hair! Whenever I’m low energy I’ll throw my hair in a ponytail and bind it that way. It doesn’t have to be extravagant.
Make a Pinterest board for them!
Post on a digital altar! There are plenty of discord servers that have digital altars and temples. You could also make a devotional Tumblr blog.
Change your phone lock/home screen to something that reminds you of your Deity.
I hope this is helpful to anyone who needs it! Take care of yourself first and foremost. If you don't think you can manage something on this list then thats perfectly fine too! you're not a bad person for not being able to do something spiritual or religious. Ultimately, these things are not a necessity. Don't stress :)
i cant stress this enough, disabled people know their own limits. i fucking promise you. we are not being lazy or jerks because we won't do something YOU want us to do or something YOU THINK will make us feel better. it wont. stop.
i had a more complex version of this sigil initially as well as the simplified version but i realised i liked the simple version more so!!!
