This is the last commission. I decided to post this one separately because I felt like the context of this one was really important.  Up until I got this commission, I’d only ever heard this phrase in its sports-related meaning: “Do something that doesn’t immediately benefit you so that the team will benefit and in return, you’ll benefit by the team benefitting.” And while that definitely has value in the context of sports or even business, when you apply it to friendships or romantic relationships, it can lead to people feeling like they have to sacrifice their needs for the wants of others. But the person who commissioned this said “That phrase is something we (my best friend) and I say to each other as a way of telling each other to love ourselves.” and that’s a beautiful interpretation of that sentence: not “take a loss so that the team benefits.” but “take something good for yourself so that we both benefit because I care about you and your happiness makes me happy.”
