Started up a beta 1.7.3 world after watching countless videos glazing Thee Good Old Days of limited options and liminal ambience....I will say it's the fastest ive put together a house in a long time because I don't really have to think about how things coordinate anymore (im still trying to incorporate "good building practices" but it's not as taxing with less blocks) and I do enjoy the old style of caving AS MUCH as I bitched about it just like everyone else
It's just funny though because...well for one I have very little personal nostalgia for this version of the game, I didn't get truly into Minecraft until about 1.12
But also, and tbf I'm definitely mixing a million videos together - people complain about Minecraft being made too easy....bro this shit is SO easy? Lol? I still can't really wrap my head around the gripes with the combat update or how some of the same people who call Minecraft too easy now want to go back to the easiest style of combat the games ever had...everything dies in like two hits and you have crazy knockback
And like I mentioned, caving is way fucking easier when there are barely caves. When strip mining is much more viable. When everything is out in a big open space you have to be more strategic about gathering resources
But mainly it's the way people talk about these versions being effectively different games. I don't know. I don't think I agree. I can see an argument for it when comparing them side by side, but playing them, I mean...it's definitely Minecraft. The core tenets of this game have not changed so much. I think what people really miss (besides their childhoods) is the old textures, the old world gen, and the old fog. And I get that because they have so much charm to them
But I definitely don't think beta is the Golden Age of Minecraft. I love the vibes and I really am coming to appreciate the original game textures (except the nether blocks fuck that forever) but i am desperately attached to the QOL updates. Maybe a mod pack is the way to go tbh
the thing about the creeper is you think well yeah i know what that is. and yeah it does that. it wont even get me anymore. but it does every time forever
And given the last handful of updates Mojang absolutely knows their demographic has shifted a bit. It's very "you want cottagecore cozygame we will give you cottagecore cozygame"
And I'm not complaining. I'm standing like two feet away from the target demographic. As one of the dozens of Mineblr Mizunos 16craft users. Yk. Lol
But it's interesting. Interesting developments. God vibrant visuals looks so bad. it looks GREASY. But whatever you got your dynamic torches you insantiable fucks need your dynamic torches and your shaders that break my sickly little mini PC's brittle bones one by one to render. Love you though
Finding myself watching lots of videos about Minecraft beta and disagreeing with many of the general "modern Minecraft was ruined by XYZ update" opinions because I'm an enjoyer of variety if nothing else but at the same time I really do find myself overwhelmed often by too much choice + the weird internal pressure to build aesthetically pleasing builds that isn't as present when you have like 20 blocks max to work with
It keeps me getting almost nothing done in my games not because I have no ideas for builds but because I want my builds to look Good and Coordinated and *gags a little* Cozy...
And then I load up my game with fifty mods to exacerbate that feeling lol. Idk maybe some beta gameplay would be a nice change of pace
I made a fully-automated XP farm for our bedrock server and decided to the outside ^_^

ooohh somewhere i'm not supposed to be
my controversial opinion is that every enchanted piece of armor/gear should get a differently colored glint shader depending on the material of the armor and also what the enchantment is, with some enchantments maintaining signature colors or patterns/textures - for example, Mending might be represented as a faint pulsing white glow. Protection might be zigzag lines of energy, fire protection might be radial lines of energy, aqua affinity might be cyan circles, etc.
Doing one-shot traditional Minecraft content outside of the PLAYER world for fun uwu this is a completely different world, with completely different rules.
Any of yall just have the sudden want to play Minecraft every year out of nowhere? ya you're an Alice
