What do you think is the difference between 1999 Taichi and 2020 Taichi based off what we've seen so far? Or is it too early to make comparisons yet?

There are a few distinctions we can recognize now, but we can’t necessarily trust all of them, and the real test is still to come.

The most obvious one is the way he gushes over his friends, seeing it already with Koushiro, Sora, and to some extent Yamato. We never got this in 1999, but back then we also never saw him meeting these three for the first time, and neither may have been in situations where Taichi was able to get the best of them right off the bat. Taichi meeting Koushiro at soccer isn’t going to generate the same feelings towards the little nerd as meeting him on the cusp of a crisis where someone with computer skills is going to shine.

This adoration feels different, and certainly something to appreciate and take note of, but we can’t say this is definitely a departure from his 1999 character. We might be able to get a better read on this one once he starts meeting friendly non-partnered Digimon, since there’s a better catalog of his reactions to them.

The way Taichi meets Koromon is particularly unreliable. One is because for all the Our War Game allusions in the first three episodes, they actually serve as this season’s Hikarigaoka incident. Those meetings are too different to be helpful: in one, Taichi’s a seven year old in his own home with his sister around as opposed to being 11 after winding up in a digital network and already exposed to a million weird things. As much as it’s a departure from the way Taichi freaks out in episode one of 1999, that reaction never made much sense and his unfamiliarity with Koromon goes down as one of Adventure’s bigger inconsistencies.

When comparing the two Taichis, the real big test is going to be his first transformative arc. When his own self becomes an obstacle to success, we’ll be able to better gauge the primary takeaway of who he is as a character and the ideal Taichi he needs to become. In 1999, this was the Etemon arc, when his over-eagerness to save the day endangers first Agumon, then Sora, resulting in a deflating lack of confidence that he has to take stock of and overcome. This led to the Taichi we got in the second half of Adventure and beyond. Whatever equivalent 2020 goes with, that’s when we can really start assessing the difference between the two interpretations of the character.

In Honor of Kyoto Animation

After these horrifying news, I’ve decided to do a recap on KyoAni’s main titles from their foundation until now as a homage for its staff, especially the victims and their families. We don’t know where the studio will be going from now, but we do know of its journey until the present moment. There were hits and there were misses, but it overall deserves appreciation now more than ever.

Random Hawkmon appears

Okay so i’m watching this movie called “it had to be you” (no idea if it’s any good). At 3:39 minutes in there is a scene with a piano and there is a hawkmon stuffie on top of it. I can’t screen shot it for some reason but it made me pause haha I love finding Digimon references in random media

More meiko for digimon adventure:! It would be cool if she and meicoomon could be in this series. Instead of meicoomon, its her child form. As ive dubbed meiplotmon. So she can still be meichan.

I know i wasnt too hot about the series. But there are many changes thus far that her making a cameo isnt farfetched. 🤔
