"Oh you know, I don't tend to try to worry about my future in academia all that much but ...I think I'm fucked if I have to add another or a new class next year," they groaned, the feeling of annoyance felt viscerally though it faded somewhat when looking at Jane. She was right. At least they had each other. "Even though I know Phoebe's class wasn't actually doing stage productions, I was hoping it would be. D'you think someone's got coursework completion as a power?"
â didn't we agree that we'd put a little more care into our grades this year? â an accusatory brow rising as she watches palomo. though, she rememers herself bringing up the conversation and refused to drop it until they agreed. taking it serious was probably another bridge that needed to be crossed. â not from what i heard, but if there is, they've got to be pretty lucky. if you actually joined me at the library one of these days, you wouldn't have to wonder. you'd also be able to complete your work all by yourself. â
Kai didn't even try to hide the sigh that escaped him, his eyes rolling into the next dimension. Clearly, a summer apart hadn't been enough to dissuade this girl from flitting around him. His book lowered to the table and leaned forward, "Doesn't this get exhausting?" He gestured in her general vicinity with one hand. Honestly, you help someone one time...
â doesn't what get exhausting? â again, answering him with nothing more but a question. the grin that she'd initially tried to hide now being known before turning her eyes down onto her foodâ peeling the lid of her yogurt open and scooping the contents with her spoon: bringing it to her mouth before speaking again: â i'm hungry, there's a seat open, you're my friend. why wouldn't i sit here? â
location : the simulation, inside toby's memory. open to : students & professors that join the simulation. tag : @vanguardiastarters
blood splatters sun kissed skin, metal creaks and warps before his eyes and around his hand, around them â creating faded scars that would serve as a reminder of murder ; pain he created. this is the second time he's seeing it and it ends the same way it always did, his body soaring up into the air and hovering for the entire neighborhood to see. guns were raised just in case. only now, it's him. it's toby today, twenty - four years old and donning vanguard training gear. he's exhausted, his heart is in anguish, and just as he lets out that blood curdling scream of excruciating grief and remorse, he's back in his childhood bedroom.
" for fuck sakes, tobin! now you've made your dad late to his appointment again! get moving! " her voice ripped through the halls of their seattle home, once a distance memory now surrounding him again. the creak of the front door that used to annoy toby, was drown out that day by the thunderous slam his mother's anger released into it, the school pictures rattling on the walls and raising the concern of their neighbors. as soon as toby was left alone, he let out his anger in a loud groan and slammed his fists into his school bag, before throwing it over his shoulder and hurrying towards his bedroom door. he never noticed it then but objects around his room began to float just barely off of their surfaces, vibrating as if his very emotions flowed in the energy between them. it was different this time though, the memory had changed â they were in it. toby's body flinches backwards out of fright when he reaches the bottom of the stairs, already on edge from the anticipation of what came next. his emotions raced and jumped between anger, frustration, fear and confusion for the sudden blink of reality. he's half sitting against the stairs, staring up at the person stood before him with wide eyes, and for a moment, a flicker of hope brightens his features. " how â what are you doing here? you're not supposed to be here ... " his voice trembles and it quickly grows distant, like he's analyzing what the actual fuck was going on. then his behavior jumps once more and he scrambles to his feet, blood beginning to boil once again. " i can't keep them waiting, they're already pissed ... " he snaps like it was forced, like his mind was jumping between memory and reality. his fists clench with anger.
it felt like a flash.  one minute she's trying to do what's expected of her and the next?  she's a room she doesn't recognize.  a home she's never been in.  there's a split second where she wonders if this is apart of the simulation as well and,  for that,  she braces herselfâ  anticipating what's to come next.  only jane's not prepared for the voice that shatters the silence. her body instantly whips around,  eyes widening as they fall onto toby.  there's confusion that knits her eyebrows together as dark hues remained glued onto him.   â  i â i don't know ...  â   is the only answer she can give at this moment and before she can ask any questions on her own,  he's speaking again.  i can't keep them waiting, they're already pissed. and then realization strikes.  she did it again.  the one thing she promised herself she wouldn't do.  she's in his mind.  only,  he sees her.  speaks to her. which could only mean that he's dreamingâ  he has to be.  she's been in the thoughts of others before,  watched their memories played out (sometimes from their own eyes) but the only time they've ever communicated with her was in a dream.  so,  that must be it.  toby's asleep and jane,  somehow,  found her way into it. â  keep who waiting?  â   the question falling from her lips before drawing in a shaky breath.  jane can feel what he's feeling.  the sense of anger that consumes him so much that his fist look like they're turning white and the brunette can't help but to step forward,   â  toby ... what's going on?  â Â
â i donât know what possessed me to take that many classes this semester, but i might not survive, â dramatics being met with a soft chuckle as she turns to look at her friend, â at least i have you or else iâd really be miserable. howâre you feeling so far? â

So how does it feel having a little-brother-type figure in your life? Itâs pretty cool.
SMALLVILLE 1.03 - Hothead
Ryan had successfully survived orientation week. While it was hardly his first time around, all the bright and beaming faces were a lot to handle. The nervous energy, the unknown powers. The possibility that he might see himself a little too clearly in the eyes of some scared, self-loathing, kid... Yeah, all things he wasn't interested in. Plus, the party. That had been rough. Content that the forced socialisation was over, Ryan was now tucked into a corner with a book, eager to blend back into the background. And yet, when he heard footsteps approach, he couldn't stop himself from looking up. "I'm not so sure that this corner's big enough for the both of us, but if it's your dream... I can move." @vanguardiastarters
as much as she likes being home, spending time with her family and friends, there's always a part of her that's counting down the days until she's back within these walls. surrounded by people just like her. a sense of belonging that jane had never felt until the academy. no one scared of her, looking at her like she was losing her mind. true acceptance.
so, it's safe to say that orientation passed like a breeze. eyes can't help but scan the room as she wanders through and when they fall onto mr. myserious in the corner, they light upâ not a second wasted before jane's skipping over.
â you're joking, right? there's plenty of room left over, â at least for her. and if there wasn't, she'd make room. â my dream is to pick your brain and see what book has your attention today [ ... ] well, not actually pick your brain. i've gotten so much better at that since last year. â
Okay, so maybe staying out all night before having to attend your first day of classes had been a bad idea. Lyndsy had barely made it through the day and now found herself slumped over a table at the café, clinging to her cappuccino for dear life. "Next time I insist on shots of tequila, can someone please be a dear and knock them from my hand?"
@vanguardiastarters
â i could, but do you even think it would work? â a questioning brow perking up as she looks at the other. her eyes drop down to the bag hanging from her shoulder, digits slipping inside to feel around until they make contact with the exact thing she'd been searching for: tylenol. a necessity for her and a saving grace for them. â lucky for you, i've got exactly what you need. a pain killer. â
It had only been a week since everyone had come back to Vanguardia and Kai was exhausted. He wasn't sure he had ever socialised more in his life and he'd only spoken to like three people; it was too much. It was a small mercy that people were still avoiding his lunch table, so he was able to eat in peace while he read, but that was short-lived. Someone dared to sit across from him, and Kai glared over the top of his book. "Did I say you could sit there?"
@vanguardiastarters
â ... did i ask if i could sit here? â brunette counters, corners of her lips threatening to perk up but she does her best to hide it. jane's quick to get comfortable in the seat she's now claimed, â all that time off and you're still this grumpy? doesn't it get exhausting? â
