Sorry to ask but why is lgbtqia bad? I've never really seen anything about it

historically speaking, the acronym has always been lgbt or lgbta (a stands for ally and the reason why it is included is so closeted people can use lgbt resources, go to lgbt events etc without outing themselves). lgbt+ is sometimes used too (because not all pan people want to be seen as a part of bi community, not all agender people identify as trans etc so the + is for them). 

including q (if it stands for queer, if it stands for questioning it’s fine but it’s not commonly used) is wrong because not all lgbt+ people have reclaimed the q slur and calling an entire community that is just unfair. including i (intersex) is not ok because most of intersex people don’t want to be a part of the lgbt+ community. and since we don’t want ace discourse on this blog, I’ll just end here.

So something that bothers me.

I came out to my therapist as transgender last week and it didn’t surprise her because plenty of people my age call themselves transgender. I had to explain to her that I actually experience gender dysphoria before she said “Oh! So you’re actually transgender!”

Because people who don’t experience gender dysphoria are identifying as trans, my therapist and doctor did not take me seriously at first. You guys are making it more difficult for actual transgender people to be taken seriously and get the help we need. Stop identifying as trans if you’re not dysphoric because you are actually causing harm.

Non-dysphoric trans people are not the ones causing harm- it’s cis people forcing trans people to live up to their narrative of what it means to be “really” transgender that causes harm. It’s truly awful that your therapist didnt take you seriously at first and I’m sorry you had to go through that, but please don’t throw other trans people under the bus to excuse her ignorance. the only ones to blame here are cis people who are willing to write off a huge chunk of trans people as not “really” trans for failing to fit their narrative.

I won’t blame cis people for what non-dysphoric “trans” people did. Causing my therapist to think that I wasn’t really trans because “everyone comes out as trans nowadays and don’t have dysphoria” when in reality, trans people don’t even make up that much of the general population. And wearing my medical issue like it’s some kind of fashion accessory or neat outfit. I was told that that was the reason. It has nothing to do with cis people and I’m not throwing “other trans people” under the bus because if they don’t experience dysphoria, they’re not trans.
