“Why can’t there be historical fiction where the protagonist isn’t some kind of annoying feminist and actually loves their social role and really wants to follow the prescribed path for their life?”
Well, friend, I have both great and terrible news for you about a little book called The Remains of the Day.
Jenny Holzer’s marquees, a solid reminder to be good.
There’s a quote from Bert where he says he‘s “known big bird since he was a little bird” and the thought of it makes my heart cry so here’s that
If you ask me, he's been up here too long. Gone native. Enjoying himself too much. Wearing sunglasses, even when he doesn't need them.

Utilitarianism posits that the correct choice is the one that causes the most good or pleasure, and the least pain and suffering. But here’s the problem. If all that matters is the sum total of “goodness,” then you can justify any number of bad actions, like torturing one innocent person to save a hundred, or preemptive war…
[image ID: a photo of the first passage of We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. “My name is Mary Katherine Blackwood. I am eighteen years old, and I live with my sister Constance. I have often thought that with any luck at all I could have been born a werewolf, because the two middle fingers on both my hands are the same length, but I have had to be content with what I had. I dislike washing myself, and dogs, and noise. I like my sister Constance, and Richard Plantagenet, and Amanita phalloides, the death-cup mushroom. Everyone else in my family is dead.”]
A selkie for #mermay :)
okay so we all agree that futurama is an isekai but what about an overly long and dumb title?
(clean version under the cut)
i shouldnt have to deal with things <3,,,,
to be quite honest i need online leftists who dont have irl disabled friends to think long and hard abt covid rn. i KNOW some of you read all this shit online & read people begging you to wear a mask and just don’t irl bc you have nobody to hold you accountable for it.
it’s not online discourse, it’s not about looking like a good person, and it’s not just an outward signal to people. it literally keeps people safe esp if you’re going to restaurants and concerts and shit. maybe you dont know the disabled people in your online circles irl, but there are real disabled people in your library, on your bus, in your classrooms, and in your workplace.
some people geniunely don’t know better bc of govt propaganda, but if you’re in online leftist + disability advocacy circles and not wearing a fucking mask irl?why? truly, why? you should feel ashamed at being complicit in mass govt propoganda encouraging the death of disabled people, the working class, & poc.
covid spike predicted this winter. again
mortality rate among workers is five times higher than the general public
life expectancy is affected by covid & disproportionately affects black, latine, & native communities in the us.
it is not too late to start. wear one to work, on the bus, and when you stop in for coffee. idc if your irl friends look at you weird. start wearing a mask.
