We have a pair of wheels! The moment I have been working towards for a long time came to fruition tonight. I knew when I embarked on this idea that it wasn’t going to be easy, I knew that the finished result would be worth it though and it really is. Wheels make or break anything automotive, diameter, offset, rim profile, spoke thickness and hub diameter play many tricks on the eye. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders knowing that this wheelset is now complete. For those that had been following my story would know the inspiration behind these, the 22 inch front wheel is similar to a Kimtab, the 18 inch rear like a BMX Motomag, the snowflakes are a play on BMW’s 1960’s cast alloy wheels and it all gets wrapped up with a M&H Race Master rear drag slick and 28x3 Firestone front slick. We have a rim! 10/10 would not do again, oh wait I have to make the rear still 😂 the to do list for the @bornfreeshow @bmwmotorradaus chopper is getting shorter and by far the biggest effort has gone into the wheelset. Executing these ideas and seeing the lines come to life is exciting, these 1.25” chromoly bottom fame rails will have a removable belly section to allow this huge motor to be removed and refitted easily. The girder front end for the @bornfreeshow @bmwmotorradaus chopper is taking shape. I spent some time turning the 4140 upper and lower cups to suit the BMW head tube, then notched some 4130 tube on the mill that will form the beginning of the front end. Everything will be lightly tacked so once the front end is complete I can unbolt and modify the top frame section to get the stance just right. Timing is everything ⚡️ when the @bornfreeshow opportunity came around I knew I wanted to put everything into this build, obviously race cars have a huge influence on my styling and I’m bringing that in the form of parts like these dry sump HTD pulleys to spin the @morrismagneto and make the @bmwmotorradaus come to life. Making moves on the BMW Chopper, the 22” smooth front tyre has arrived, the wheel is all drawn up and ready to be CNC cut out of aluminium, the magneto and HTD drive is all figured out, the billet Smart Carbs are on their way from the US, the Titanium is here for the exhaust, the frame fabrication has begun with the head tube and the backbone, the girder is all drawn up and I am waiting on some laser cut gussets to begin the fabrication process on it.
