Reality VS Fiction
The influence of Filipino teleseryes among students is not a major social issue among us Filipinos. There is a small chance that children are to emulate the actions of the actors on screen. The influence of TV shows would be the more appropriate statement to this issue, several people blame media for the misbehaviour of children as children do nothing but watch TV, as most say.
In a sense, there is a possibility that children may be influenced the media as all we see in media nowadays depict violent matters, like in the news for example. There have already been instance where violence is depicted in television shows, although not explicit, they are present I the sense that it is not meant to be harmful but funny.
An example of this would be the classic Bugs Bunny cartoon or better known as Looney Tunes. One section from the multi-story cartoon is The Road Runner Show, the Wile E. Cayote’s goals is to capture the road runner in hopes of eating it. His methods often end in failure turning on him causing him to take the pain rather than the road runner, and his methods often use giant boulders and dynamite. Another segment would be the regular Bugs Bunny with hunter Elmer Fud, Elmer is any other hunter that wants to shoot animals for amusement, and he always wields a gun shooting at Bugs or Daffy duck. The methods of how to achieve their goals may suggest a violent behavior but these things are depicted to the audience in a funny comical sense and not a bad influence on others.
An example for girls would be Disney’s Frozen character, Elsa, who is now considered a part of the Disney Princess franchise. In earlier Disney Princes films, the lead character would immediately fall in love with a man they have just recently met, but in Elsa’s case, she does not have a love interest as well as Merida from Brave. In Elsa’s words from the movie “You can’t marry a man you’ve just met”, for others this is a wakeup call that fairytales are just fairytales. This isn’t necessarily related to violence but nonetheless related to the concept of reality vs. fiction in television shows, movies and the like.
The concept of reality vs. fiction is very clear to our society as of today but in some others, fiction is overused in some cases that it may have a side-effect of something unwanted by people. There must be a distinction between the two, In reality, we see that not everything is all glitz and glamour, there comes a point in time when we must accept our responsibilities of being an adult, we cannot lurk in our childhoods for long. This is not meant to scare or intimidate anyone, but the facts are straight, in many cases the solution for this negative disposition is be happy. Think positive, all hard work will pay off eventually, get a job that one would enjoy and he or she will never have to work for a day, reality and fiction may be mixed up, but let us not forget the boundaries that are set and done.

Making the best of your marriage
Not all marriages end in divorces, most couples often cannot find a common point of view where they can agree with each other, which in turn would eventually lead to a divorce if the couple cannot agree without delay . Divorce is a problem shared by the parents as well as their child or children as well. Divorce can be prevented or solved by (1) proper communication with each other (which includes children too); (2) thinking positively of the marriage (so far); (3) and if the divorce has already been through, insist on working with each other for the benefit of the child or children.
Doherty states in his book, Take back your marriage: sticking together in a world that pulls us apart, that couples who are in the brink of their marriage should at least visit a couple therapist either once a month or a week to talk about the issues that come about in the marraige. He also recommends to keep the lines open, do not shut out the other, avoid saying ‘No’ to the other person. By replying a ‘No’ will give a tone of aggressiveness intimidating the other party. It is better to keep the child or children notified of the impending separation, but also recommended that the child be a part of therapy or family talks since the child will play a big part in the bond of the couple.
Desrochers’ article in the National Association of School Psychologists, A Parent’s Guide for supporting children, suggests that divorces can be saved owing to the child living with either spouse and being provided by both parties. As long as the husband or wife would think positively of the marriage, the couple will not look forward to any kind of conflict between them during the course of positive outlook would eventually not result in divorce or separation as long as the couple view it as an opportunity to strengthen the bond with each other, the children as well as the whole family.
If the divorce has already been gone through, the couple must insist on working with each other for the benefit of the child or children says Kruk, a Psychology PhD specializing in child and family policies. Children will always have the right to live a normal life with two parents or one parent, but in the case of divorces, the couple is encouraged to provide for the child or children together as it does not only help the children with cope up with the parents’ divorce but also make the couple warm up to each other in terms of providing for the child even though they are not together anymore . The couple may not be together in wedlock anymore, but they could still be friends as far as the child support goes.
Not all marriages turn out to be failures, divorces can still be saved. The couple can and may prevent a divorce from happening as long as they would listen to each other and keep their relationship healthy. There were three probable solutions on how a divorce can be prevented and saved. Not all marriages turn into shambles, the couple will be all right if they can find the time to take preventive measures, have a healthy communication with the children, keeping the marriage lively and keep personal distances from each other but not to the point of keeping secrets that are not meant to be kept from one another.

WC Experience
In writing class, we were taught the difference between academic reading and writing and regular writing. Academic writing is primarily concerned with matters that are for academics and made for the purpose of research. Academic writing was clarified to us by our professor in class via seatwork, he then explained academic writing further in class together. Academic reading is not solely based on opinions, but rather the matters that were written in the essay are based on facts that were proven by scholars or reliable sources such as doctors and reliable people.
During the extended definition and problem-solution essays, the main difficulty that I had were choosing a topic. Though the difficulty was easily solved. While making the essay, the other difficulty was to think of three supporting details for each, in the extended definition the three supporting details that I used were not to define the term but to define what the term is not. Our professor approved of this as I had a hard time making a general definition. In the problem-solution essay, I did not have much difficulty in terms of making the essay as we are to research about our chosen problem and provide three solutions or steps on how to solve the said problem.During the whole term making essays, I have improved in terms of making essays more understandable for the reader.
I also learned the different types of essays, my entry essay, The influence of ‘Teleseryes’, showed how I were to write an essay before. Aside from the professors remarks on my essays, the duration of the term peer editing was also a common step to making the final draft for the essay, during the times we were to peer edit our classmates works, not only did I get to improve my editing but also learn my mistakes in writing as well. Peer editing benefits me and others as well because it points out my mistakes as well as knowing how to correct my fellow classmates mistake.
I have improved in writing academically, and writing academically means that it has to be for the purpose of research and should contain sources of reliable sources. The portfolio has been a very helpful matter for me as a student, I will still use this till graduation. ENGLCOM may be a hassle with all the paper work, but all the work is all worth it because in the end we gain more. ENGLCOM has helped me and I have done well in all the outputs that were assigned to us, classroom sessions were especially fun because we all had to interact with each other during peer editing and such activities. We all have improved in our writing since our professor encourages us to constantly improve on our writing. Writing academically is different from just writing fiction, ENGLCOM class has made me improve in writing because of the lessons taught to us and also the motivation by our professor and also the experience I have gained in our classes.
Outline: Problem Solution Essay
Problem: Divorce
Thesis Statement:
Divorce is a problem shared by the parents as well as their child/children as well. Divorce can be prevented/solved by (1) proper communication with each other (which includes children too); (2) thinking positively of the marriage (so far); (3) and if the divorce has already been through, insist on working with each other for the benefit of the child/children.
Solution #1: Proper communication
A couple may suggest attending a therapist so that the couple may sort things out without having to conflict with each other. Keep the lines open, do not say 'No' with each other and often ask the children what their say in these matters
Solution #2: Think of the marriage positively (so far)
The marriage will survive as long as both partners understand that there will not be a problem or any hindrances that will come-out of the marriage. A positive marriage will eventually result in a healthy relationship with each other and also with the children.
Solution #3: if the divorce has already been through, insist on working with each other for the benefit of the child/children.
The marriage may have ended but for the better or worse, the couple will eventually talk out some issues regarding the possession of items, bank accounts as well as guardianship over the child/ children. The couple may like it or not, but they have the responsibility of bringing up the child and it's the child's responsibility to cope with the divorce of his or her parents.

Not Anime
Contrary to popular belief, Anime is none of the following: (1) it is not cartoon; (2) it is not only for children; and (3) it is not a genre. Most people would think that anime is either one of these three, but in reality neither of them are true.
Cartoons and Anime are two different matters. Cartoons pertain to animated shows that depict a simpler style and targeted at a younger audience. Anime on the other hand depicts a distinct style of drawing, storylines that based from on novels and games that and is directed at a mature audience; and showcase explicit content. Cartoons display comical short stories that are child friendly.
Several series’ that were released the past years show mature graphics, storylines as well as bloodshed. Series’ like Elfen Lied tells the story of a female alien in the form of a human being that was being experimented and eventually escaped to live a normal life as a human. The story might seem innocent enough, but the first episode would really shock the viewer (assuming he or she is new to anime) as the alien is seen escaping the laboratory completely nude, bathed in a liquid substance that appeared to look like blood. Another example would be Shingeki no Kyojin, literally translated to Attack on Titan, whose main storyline is slaughtering 100 meter naked humanoid with giant blades that slit through their necks which leads to blood splattering (up to the characters face). Others like Dokuro-chan, Kill La Kill, Strike the Blood, Code Geass, and others all depict similar concepts, violence and nudity. Adults would not want their children to watch such programs as they are too brutal to handle.
Contrary to what other say, anime is not a genre. The term Anime is short for animation. The term itself contains genres. The word anime’s literal translation in Japanese would be animeshon, it is written in katakana which is the alphabet system used in Japan used for borrowed English words. Genres pertain to gore, sci-fi, romance, tragedy, angst, etc. While anime pertains to the style of animation used that is characterized by outrageously eyes, un-proportional bodies and thin lips.
Anime is not a genre, it’s a style, a phenomenon which is spread out throughout the world, not only in Asia. It is full of misconceptions, the three points previously mentioned shows exactly what anime is not, it may be weird, but one would not appreciate the true meaning until he or she sees the truth.

Genre - nation
Disney's Frozen soundtrack, "Let It Go" , has been translated and sung in various languages by various artists of different nationalities and sold many records worldwide/internationally. Music comes in many ways in which we can enjoy it; while there are many general genres like Rock, Classical and Pop, there are sub genres under those genres and sub-sub genres under sub genres. There is a wide array of genres that we can listen to, the other being unique from the other. We are not limited to one genre, we can explore as much as genres as we desire.
Genres nowadays are branching out as more and more artists become creative. Before, the genres that people generally would know were rock, classical and pop. But as of today, rock genre can be branched out to Punk Rock, Heavy Metal, Alternative, Indie Rock, Glam Rock and many more. Same goes for classical and pop music, there have also been instances where genres collide, these are commonly called fusion genres or mash-ups, genres that are a combination of two or more different genres to create a distinct genre and style of music. The fusion genre is now being appreciated in all parts of the globe as netizens are just not content with one kind of genre; no one is limited to one certain type of music. Social media plays a big role in a person's preference in music as social networking brings music to us. Social media has given netizens the opportunity to discover other types of music that is not ones locality, it also provides netizens with various sites where one could download albums and singles with just one click of a button. Various software are also available for others too, and in the process, encourages a larger audience to discover various types of music that the others haven't heard of yet and eventually spread the phenomenon.
The musical preferences of a person can vary, some people are born in different cultures and different lifestyles. An example of how musical preferences may vary is during ones early year as a child. He or she may have a liking to classical music and eventually grew up listening to classical music. Another example, and the most common one, is out pf curiosity. The internet is a primary source of music that is not local to us. It gives people access to various sites and software which offer features where one could listen to songs that one may be interested in. But as time goes on preferences also change, a reason for this might be due to genre A lacking something that genre B offers to the listener or vice - versa (i.e. person A prefers Jazz over R&B due to Jazz emphasizing brass instruments). An array of possibilities may occur on how a person acquires his or her preferences in music, all leading to a single thought. Thought we are of different countries and nationalities, music brings us all together.
Music plays a great part in society. "we can't touch music, but music can touch us". Whether we ore of different nationalities, music gives us an experience wherein we can share our musical preferences with others that may share the same or different ones as we do. No matter how far apart or how different we are, music is a universal language that everybody understands despite being in different languages that we are not able to comprehend ourselves. Music brings is all together.

Influence of filipino 'Teleseryes'
Teleseryes are drama shows that are shown on TV by broadcasting stations like ABS-CBN & GMA. As far as one is concerned, teleseryes are not a threat to the general public, but in some TV shows that depict fantasy themed dramas like Galema in ABS-CBN, it depicts a woman who is the child of a mutant like creature and throughout her life, she has been through heart aches and miracles of love. It may seem like a harmless plot, but isn't it a bit far fetched? Most series are often themed with romance and broken relationships, it goes by the lines of 'Once, there was this abandoned girl...then she finds true love...then her twins tries to steal her man....the evil twin loses", etc. Teleseryes are fun to watch in general but what do they influence to children? Are children supposed to believe that they would achieve a happily ever after and live peacefully? An example to point out is the role of politicians in media and vice-versa Most actors and actresses in are not great performers, may be good or great but not astounding.
it is not bad to idolize stars, but teleseryes do not capture the essence of reality. Even in Korean or Japanese Dramas, children are not supposed to think about true love at a young age, they should be studying to face the real world, and it's not all glitz and glamour as teleseryes present to the audience. Most would not agree since teleseryes have already been part of out culture, a past time if one may see it. What is the story supposed to convey to the viewer? Yes, it is a product of one's creative imagination, but what is it trying to impart on us? Another example would be Honesto in ABS-CBN, it does a good job of showing children that they should not lie and always be honest but the main plot of the series is very complicated. Why drag a child into adult matters? Why not real life dramas similar to the ones in GMANEWSTV.
Teleseryes do not only fuel our imaginations, but also gives us joy as a pastime. Normal series that do not depict Monsters or fictional characters are fine as they convey a sense of realism to viewers. But half human-half snake or half human-half bird creatures are too far fetched. Story lines in teleseryes are often reused and recycled that an eccentric plot would not appeal to us as easily as the ones we are used to. It is okay for children to like fantasy, they have a wider array of imagination but the child's actions can lead to unnecessary accidents. The parents should regulate the shows that the children watch and let them be informed of the difference between Fact& Fiction; Reality & Drama.
