When People Ask About My Valentine's Plans
Made this a wile ago (last year, I think), and thought it might be good for Black History Month!
His parents made him replace his “I’m dead inside” sign with engineering.

"Take care of your body. It’s the only one you will have in this life." Quinn McDonald
Alice Zielinski is currently an MIT undergraduate studying aeronautical & astronautical engineering and computer science & electrical engineering. In this article, she tells us that
"Many MIT students recount questions about their GPA, test scores, magnificent things they’ve built, other accomplishments—while I often find myself trying to convince people that I actually attend MIT. The reactions that I’ve received from people range from amusing to borderline offensive, from delightful to ‘what??’"
Just another thing to show to your friends who don’t believe that sexism in STEM is a thing. Especially since she had to write a follow up addressing negative responses.

Fraction of Bachelor’s Degrees Earned by Women, by Major
Just saw this concerning data compiled by the American Physical Society. Since reaching a peak in the early/mid-2000’s, the fraction of bachelor’s degrees awarded to women across the sciences has been on the decline.
I don’t know quite what to make of this. If it were just due to the funding troubles caused by the financial collapse or flattening budgets in the years before that, we’d expect to see degrees fall for men and women.
We need to reverse this trend, especially for engineering and physics… I mean, SHEESH.

This Dyslexic-Friendly Font Could Help The 1 In 5 People Living With Condition
A few subtle tweaks to a letter’s shape can make a world of difference to some readers.
By creating a new typeface with slight but impactful changes, Dutch designer Christian Boer is making reading an easier task for those, like himself, who live with dyslexia. Letters of the Dyslexie font have heavy base lines, alternating stick and tail lengths and semicursive slants — all modifications that differentiate letters that can look confusingly similar to those with the condition.
To better understand how Dyslexie font works read our interview with the designer of Dyslexie font here.
