I have four of these brows, re-uploaded here. Unfortunately the download itself had not been archived on wayback, but the original filename was: Praline-Brows-Set1.rar
Does anyone seeing this have the full set? Please re-upload if so!
You should never, to the best of your ability, download and/or install anything on your computer, phone, etc., that was coded using generative AI. I don't even have to touch on the moral reasons because it is, point blank, actually dangerous.
Your electronic devices are just millions of lines of code with a fancy interface, and every time you download and install something, you're trusting that whoever programmed it, 1) knew what they were doing and, 2) is acting without malicious intent.
Something wrong with GShade or ReShade could wreck your GPU. A bad update to a video game could trigger a memory leak with potentially devastating consequences. Data being stored in the wrong format is just waiting to be stolen. Tons of people are right now being listened to or watched via their webcams because of exploits.
And this is with people who KNOW what they're doing. It's part of why historically it was so important to install security updates as they rolled out.
It's also part of why, in my opinion, more so than anything else in the AI slop realm, gen AI-based vibes "coding" is the most despicable because it puts so many people's very expensive computers and very exploitable data at risk. The person generating the code doesn't actually know what the code is doing or how to fix it, and these programs get bloated quickly because any attempt to fix bugs usually just results in Claude or Grok or w/e just generating more code to slap on top of what's already there, frequently leaving the "bad" code intact.
LLMs are also... just kind of dumb? and capable of being "poisoned." Like it's possible to "break" ChatGPT by asking it to show a seahorse emoji because someone on Reddit was convinced it existed in a parallel universe. Imagine what could wind up in published code because of such hallucinations or because someone poisoned the well.
In small hobby spaces, part of why so many people publish directly to github is because it allows their code to be audited by the community. Others who know what they're looking at can come in and verify the code does what the publisher says it does and question if anything looks strange. The end result is that it helps keep the community as a whole safer.
Untested, vibes "coded" programs tossed willy nilly into the ether are dangerous, end of story. Seemingly simple and harmless programs can actually do massive damage though malice or incompetence.
Even if it is from a trusted member of the community, the act of publishing something that you don't actually know and cannot verify what it does is blatantly irresponsible and puts everyone who downloads it at risk.
Again, I'm not here to argue the morality of gen AI, because everyone has been talking in circles about it for literally years now.
But purely from a cyber security perspective: you should never, under any circumstances, download and run a program that is not verified to work the way the publisher claims it should, and anything coded with gen Ai is going to be fundamentally more suspicious by it's very nature.
And I really need to emphasize that I do no think that the majority of vibes "coding" is being done in bad faith. I don't think anyone is trying to damage computers or open anyone up to security vulnerabilities.
But if you cannot parse the code yourself--and I certainly can't, so I'm not judging anyone else who can't--when you download and run the programs, you are putting so much faith in whoever published it that, in the case of vibes "coded" nonsense, they genuinely do not deserve.
big tech has been trying to keep people stupid and oblivous for literal decades and it's working
there is a reason why so many people do not know how their computers work. Everything is hidden behind a fancy GUI to supposedly make things "easy" and "user friendly", but what it actually led to is that people don't fucking know what their computer is actually doing in the background. Things are obfuscated and so it's no wonder that more and more people claim they are "not tech savvy". Why would they be? They are never confronted with how things work, they never have a reason to learn about it (unless things break and then it's already too late). But this is precisely how companies like microsoft managed to sneak in so much bullshit over the years stealing people's data that most people don't even know of, or if they know about it, they don't know how to turn it off. Software like Windows isn't shitty and poorly organized by accident, it's by design. You are not supposed to know where to find stuff and they intentionally make it so people feel overwhelmed before even starting to learn how things work, so they don't even attempt to learn. The complaints about this have been around for a while and they've had more than enough time to fix this, they just don't want to because it clashes with their business model.
now we have AI and instead of learning how to code (or at least read and understand code), people are using it to vibe code stuff that they end up not understanding. And it's the same principle again: It looks shiny on the surface, it seemingly works, it's supposedly quick and easy, so why should people care to learn how to do it themselves?
We don't even know what data these LLMs have been fed with at this point. It's simply too much and they don't exactly have a concise list of sources. For all we know, these companies could even intentionally poison their own LLM to include harmful code in vibe coded programs because harvesting people's data is how they grow the fastest. That's all they care about. And because they are pretty successful in keeping people dumb and uneducated, there wouldn't even be any consequences for them, same as there haven't been any consequences for them for all the other bs they have pulled until now.
If the whole "AI is bad for the climate" thing is too big and hopeless for people to ralley behind it, at the very least people should ralley behind not *personally* getting exploited any further by these multi billionaires.
my country is currently going through the biggest heatwave, never before recorded (we litterally reached two new records yesterday, and today), and this bitch (@lordcrumps) (oh yeah, i am calling out and using slurs now, i'm dead serious) is telling me, in a very nonchalant way, to shut up about him using a tool that is not only making it worse -even if indirectly- but that is also feeding the same power structures responsible for said tool, some of which being that same old, same old company we collectively hate.
fuck your spreadsheet actually 🖕
and fuck all the people who liked and reblogged, please unfollow and block me, 'kay? thx, bye!
or perhaps, idk, don't use it? idk i feel like that's a good way to not feel like you are being canceled.
can anyone help me find this yellow wood floor? it came merged with a buuunch of different colors but i accidentally deleted them and now i cant find them again ;_;
POV: The year is 2027, and while playing The Sims 4 you pause your game and get up to use the bathroom. However you stop suddenly, and turn to look at your pause screen to find it slowly forming into a fullscreen ad for Tide laundry detergent, with a QR code to conveniently add it to your Amazon cart in the bottom right corner, but the freshness doesn’t stop there.
You look closer to see there’s also a smaller ad within the ad reminding you that The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff is currently 50% off.
Funny how originally The Sims was considered to be a satire on consumerism and late stage capitalism, and 26 years, 3 games, and thousands of dollars in DLC later, it might be getting in-game ads.
Full circle moment if the circle was on fire, and also the portal to hell.
someone: sims 2 community is highkey racist at times and this is reflected in the custom content creation space
horde of white simmers: oh my goddd you literally have so much to choose from though! this space is the most diverse ever. what do you mean poc options feel limited compared to options for non-poc. why don't you just make the cc yourself. bet you never thought of that. and btw it's completely normal for marginalized groups and people wanting gameplay that isn't white centric to have to search harder to curate a downloads folder for themselves. be grateful you have anything at all. here let me make it easier for you here's 10 measly links now stop suggesting deeper analysis of fandom trends and let me play my game IN PEACE!!!
I'm assuming you're talking about this thread started by @simstationdance. If not, disregard everything under there and let me know.
Can you please give me a quote, or like a crumb of a quote, from that "horde of simmer", that reflects the sentiment you're strawmanning right now.
Nobody on that thread is saying that there is "so much" to choose from, nobody is saying that this space is the most diverse ever (we very well know it's not) or that non-poc options are not rarer, or that you should be grateful for anything.
Yes, the sims community is racist, the world is racist, there is no argument about that, nobody here is denying it. There is a long history of white-centric Sims CC being very dominant (I just finished fixing the lottie-sims hair defaults links on the database, so I have that very much in mind right now).
That said, to quote the initial post: "Literally every default face template set on earth that I've ever seen be like: what if every single sim looked the exact same as each other. and also they're all white". So yes, people are making suggestions, like to try and be helpful. I'm sorry, are you calling that wrong? What are we supposed to do, nod our heads and fail to mention the stuff that would potentially make someone's game more diverse? Fail to mention the work that has been done to alleviate the issue OP is struggling with and that we can recognize? Nobody is saying that that's enough, there will never be enough in terms of diversity in the CC we make because, as cheesy as that sounds, human diversity is infinite. How is people engaging in the discussion the equivalent of saying "stop suggesting deeper analysis of fandom trends and let me play my game IN PEACE!!!", isn't it the exact opposite? We want to have a discussion. One that gives space for nuance would be nice please. Like we can't be saying factually incorrect things and not expect people to point out the incorrectness.
Frustration about this topic is very understandable but let's try and read what people are actually saying, or we'll never have the productive conversations we need to have.
~
PS: on the first reblog, OP says: "Can't have Asian features or Black features or Indigenous features because they're too #ugly and the Sims 2 community memes on it constantly about how #gross and #ugly they are". I believe it but I have not seen this myself and have no clue where they read such memes. If their post was in reaction to something very gross that they saw somewhere, then I have no awareness of it and am not defending it. Vague-posting does not help anyone having real conversations if that was the goal.
i can understand why what i said may feel like strawmanning with the context of that post alone, but in reality i was more using it as inspiration to comment on an overall trend i've witnessed in the community. i am genuinely sorry for the confusion on that part, but yeah that wasn't me speaking only about that discussion because i'll admit from that pov it does seem like i just pulled arguments from thin air.
as for the rest of what i said that did pertain specifically to the face templates post, comments like "you can't tell them what kind of CC they should be making instead", "you can also be criticized for being too lazy to choose different faces", and "instead of being bitchy about the existing templates, how about you make your own?" are clear examples of the dismissive nature of many simmers when the lack of minority representation is pointed out. because it's not just about the presence of this type of cc but also how it reflects the systemic racism that has influence in different spheres within this community, such as the silencing of black simmers' voices and the unwillingness to engage and empathize with non-white experiences. yes, i could make my own custom content based on my own ethnicity, but why should it only be my responsibility? why should i need to work harder and "mix and match" while others get to just slap a single unzipped file in their folder and call it a day? sure, no one is forcing me to download anything and some diverse cc does exist, but how come there is such a clear pattern of content that prefers one group of people?
and it is absolutely not wrong to try to help by offering resources to expand the visibility of diverse content, and genuinely the work done by yourself and other creators is appreciated, but often the way in which this content is being suggested while ignoring the larger issue is yet another reflection of that underlying racism at play. considering the post that inspired mine and how that one was worded, i will say it doesn't foster the best discussion for what i'm trying to convey as it's a heavy generalization of the cc actually available out there, and in that case the cc suggestions by others served a purpose. but when looking at the bigger picture and how this exchange tends to go, it can unknowingly be a way to silence any presented concerns and allow people to get away with not self-reflecting and instead continuing on in their normal fandom-going activities without asking "Hey, why don't I ever create sims with non-European features?" "Why do I only focus on the white(-passing) premades?" "Why do I consider this face template ugly?" etc.
so basically, my post wasn't intended as a response to only simstationdance's and the thread underneath, but to the wider pattern of racism in the simblr community as a whole. i only ask that people not necessarily cater specifically to me and my needs, but analyze why they may present certain biases in their actions when engaging with fandom as opposed to attempting to dismiss it each time it's brought up.
I see, thank you for explaining the wider context you're coming from, it makes perfect sense. And I'm sorry that you constantly have to explain this stuff to white people, as I'm sure you do.
I had a bit of a visceral reaction to the literal wording in simstationdance's post, and in yours too I suppose, and I missed the forest for the trees.
This is not an attack on you but I wanted to add, as the OP of that post, why I made that post - if it helps you to understand the context any further. I feel like f1shart explains things quite well but I am adding my own perspective as the OP of the post being talked about.
I have seen people call face templates like face template 18 - the one based on aboriginal australian features - "shrek face" and "monkey face". I have seen on the default database face template sets that are a majority white features. When I made that post, it was me speaking in a hyperbolic manner out of frustration with racist trends within the sims community that I was noticing even in Current Year.
I was not demanding CC creators slave away working to create something they don't have the skills for or any interest in. I was asking people to consider why they see certain face templates - such as what features are attached to those faces - and think "ughhh so uglyyyy", and to ask themselves why they can only think of a handful of templates that do not have this issue.
It's also important that we don't tokenize the handful of cc that isn't white-centric in order to shut down criticism and discussion, especially when someone is communicating frustration in their experience. Even if there are face templates that don't veer toward predominantly conventionally white that doesn't discount the criticism that face templates are overwhelmingly conventionally white, and being able to find and share that cc should not be used as a tool to absolve the community of that criticism.
What pisses me off the most about there being early access content for paralives is the fact that it’s an INDIE GAME. it’s not a multi million dollar company like EA. It’s an early access indie game and some of you are so fucking greedy for cash that you wanna profit off of it? We already have to deal with this shit in the sims like the community is fucking infested with it and now you wanna do this to paralives when they literally told us that we’d always be getting updates for free???? Loser behaviour. You’re a loser
Well it wasn’t just me, to be fair. I would have never been able to without @fireflowersims help and HugeLunatics trust in both of us. Thank you to both of them for their work and thank you @teaaddictyt for reaching out and doing the more public communication.
I’m super happy I got the chance to work to fix it. It wasn’t an easy undertaking. It seemed like every little thing would cause more errors, I fixed one and another thing broke. But now it seems stable, finally.
A lot of technical stuff below the cut, beware.
Fixing such an old forum is not easy. Documentation is rather sparse because the framework it runs on is old. There is however a more modern version, but updating is difficult. Here was the issue for the forum - upgrading failed.
A website (usually) consists of two different parts: 1 - The files. They contain the code, scripts, designs, images, attachment, profile pictures etc. 2 - The database. The database connects all the different parts and tells the website where to find something. Everything gets stored in tables, assigned IDs and given values. Everything written, each post and topic is also stored in the database. So without the database the whole page would be useless.
It was clear from the beginning that the database was the culprit for the failed upgrades. I got an earlier backup from HL and started working.
I set up a local environment with two versions of XAMPP. One running on php 7.4 (the last version having compatibility for the forum framework version and the upgrade script to the recent version) and the other on a modern 8.3, which was the same as the version the server @fireflowersims set up for GOS.
I ran the upgrade script (which consists of 4 separate parts) on the old backup and ran into errors right away. The script would just outright crash on me, most often without a log or message. The (local) server would just stop responding. My original plan had been to upgrade to version 2.0 first, then 2.1, since it was the recommended order. However the database backup had already been partly upgraded to 2.1. That was the reason my upgrade script failed. Reversing those changes could have been a possibility but extremely time intensive.
(This is the frontpage of the upgrader. I stared at it so much. Like you can see it has a ton of steps)
Instead I asked for the current database and HL provided it to me. This one was already further along on the upgrade and I could see the error HL had run into before handing over. I had to look at the upgrade scripts and source php files to diagnose what the framework was expecting - and failing - to find in the database.
That’s where I found the main culprit for *most* of the errors: Time tables. The framework saves every action that a user does in a log, a long table with the action, an id and a date. This was where everything had gotten wrong. The upgrader expected to see one column for the date, named *day*, while the current table had a different column for day, month and year. I tried fixing the table at first but that didn’t seem to work, so I completely deleted the table and created a new empty one myself. (By now I think the issue stems from forgetting to uninstall certain packages before upgrading, more on that later)
That was possible because the log actually doesn’t hold relevant information for the forum to work. It just records each step, probably for moderation purposes. Once I had done that step the upgrade script was finally able to proceed.
There were a few more errors where I had to look at what the script was doing, find the corresponding code in the sources and edit the database myself. Thankfully the code is relatively well commented and named, so I was able to find what I needed.
Finally I got the upgrade script to run to the end and I was actually able to open the forums (local) page. I hadn’t been able to for now so it was a first. But a lot of stuff was still missing, like all the topics. I could see that the posts were back, but not sorted correctly.
The fix was simple but annoying. The forum framework comes with a repair_setting.php file which I had run several times to fix all the paths, but apparently it didn’t fix *all* of them. So back to the database I went, ran some queries and fixed them myself.
Then the forum finally worked again!
(This is what the forum looked like when I first opened it. It ONLY had recent posts)
(The working local forum, no files yet with the default theme. Seems wrong to look at GOS without the dark theme, right?)
There were still a few things I needed to fix but the database seemed to work fine now. I had never done so many queries in my life. I know SQL, and had to fix databases before but not this intensely. So I guessed I learned something new haha.
Next was the exciting step to upload my clean install to the server. @fireflowersims and I had some directory issues, but I was able to fix them manually once again.
Then I had to take a look at the files which mostly consist of avatars and attachments. They didn’t work at all once moved to the clean install. Once again I took a look at the code and realized that the upgrade script would have changed those files as well, but because I ran it on a clean install it didn’t actually do this step.
I didn’t want to run the upgrade script again, worried that it would mess up a now working database. Instead I wrote a script myself that sorted through all the attachments, looked for the IDs of the avatars from the database so it could move and rename them.
Last were the attachments. This was an easier fix. They just had to be given the ending .dat. @fireflowersims ran a command through the console and then the attachments worked too!
We were getting closer!
Next was the theme. The old theme didn’t work on the modern framework anymore so @fireflowersims looked for a new one which I customized with CSS, trying to get it closer to the way the forum looked before. I think it turned out quite alright, hope you guys think so too!
(Trying to find out what CSS class addresses what? Make everything red and green!)
(All the spider webs)
Next was packages, or mods, to the framework. Fire and I encountered some hiccups here too, since there were some leftovers in the database. The packages hadn’t been properly deinstalled before running the upgrade script, which was another source of the errors. I tried fixing them manually but one of the packages would continue to just break the site no matter what I tried, so we settled for an alternative.
Some more work was put into SSL and making the forum secure. Once again some settings seemed to just break the page and each time I had to go back in the database and manually fix what had gone wrong. It was tedious but by now I knew my way around quite well.
@fireflowersims handled a lot of the server administrative work and DNS settings. I know very little about that part so having @fireflowersims there was great and they made sure the page is reachable at the correct address.
So yeah, I hope the site stays online for a long time now. It’s such a big part of our community and communities history. I used to download so much from there when I was younger. I wanted to give back to the community I love so much. That was the reason I spent many many hours digging through code and old forum threads.
Jules, I cannot emphasize enough just how cool you are for having done all of this work to get GoS back online! I'm glad I was able to provide a good new space for GoS to live from now on and assist with all the DNS. It was a trip alright, and I'm glad we could work together on this!
You are a hero and I (and I bet so many others) am so grateful for your skill and dedication! ♥️
Reminder that Paralives is a FRESH START, so let's make sure that paywallers and early access folks know they are not welcomed. This behavior is not accepted in the vast majority of other gaming communities, they don't tolerate this behavior and we don't have to either. JUST SAY NO.
We will shape the paralives community together, so let's make it a great place to be for everyone.
ps. Here's an avenue to submit your feedback and thoughts on the topic. Reminder to approach with respect. https://www.paralives.com/gamefeedback
When I was posting and sharing CC of my own, I admit, I often kept my mouth shut and skirted the edges of conflict for my own preservation and peace. But the things I've seen just from a single scroll of my feed today are truly, truly awful.
AI generated CC previews, early access CC for Paralives (an indie game IN early access), and low/questionable quality CC for sale in the Sims marketplace.
What the fuck happened where folks think any of this is okay or normal?
If we don't speak up, hold people accountable, and examine why these things are harmful, it's only going to get worse. Keeping the peace is one thing, but staying silent in the wake of the pure bastardization and exploitation of art is another.
Here's one examination of the harm of using fandom spaces as a customer base/turning a fandom into a market place from someone who's been here for a dang while. Fandom spaces are meant to be a community that flourishes from a large group of creatives. We have people who make art, people who write fic, people who make encyclopedias or even video essays of lore, people who make mods (or cc), and many more. These are hobbyists interacting with hobbyists and each benefiting from one another's talents. Everyone is an individual contributor who makes things out of love for the (in this instance) game and shares out of love of the fandom and thus their work builds community.
Once someone starts selling that work they go from a fan sharing their creative work with other fans within the fandom to a salesperson using the fandom as a marketplace. They restructure their relationship within the fandom from that of a fellow fan amongst fans to that of a business amongst potential customers. Their social media posts become advertisements. If there's no push-back or worse if this is encouraged it can transform a fan space into a marketplace. EA has seen this happening within the sims 4 fandom and are finding a way to get in on the profits while exploiting not only the fans who might pay for cc/mods but also the "fans" of the game who would sell their work on ea's marketplace.
Honestly, most of us are exhausted with constantly being sold to with advertisements everywhere. We can at least fight back against it in our fan spaces and communities.
I know Jellypaws, casualsims, leosims and sonyasims use AI for their previews/cc or wtv but I know there’s more people I just don’t know who. Does anyone have a list?
Okay, so I gathered some who either use AI for their previews/meshes. Also please note that this is just a list that I was making for myself so I could avoid these creators. I did not intend for this to be seen as a call out post, bc that was not my intention. If it were a callout post then I would @ these people. This list is only to inform you guys on who to avoid/be wary of!!
Jellypaws - AI previews and meshes
Casualsims - AI previews. Meshes idk
Sonyasims - AI previews. Meshes idk
Pixelvibes - AI previews and meshes

Edit: If you have any evidence/link to a post where the creator has admitted to using AI please link it in the comments or send me a DM, thank you!!!
First of all, she actually advertises it. It’s right on her pinned post.
“Yes that’s pathetic but how do we know she uses AI for her work?”
well, let’s talk about Cuupid’s github (found here). For one, she’s used AI to alter SimRipper code. Not only is she using AI but she’s disrespecting dead on top of that by ruining her legacy with AI.
(she also made shit for a mod created by an alleged pedophile so…)
Its 2026 and summer is here so you know what that means!

Like many of us, I grew up with Garden of Shadows. To me, it was more than just a forum. It was a place I could ask for help, learn new skills and, best of all, find amazing content in any style I could possibly want. I loved the board names, the people, the themes; everything, really.
And I admit I was more than a little heartbroken to find it gone.
After mulling it over, I decided that I wanted to preserve what I possibly could. I spent a few hours yesterday running through strategies and ideas about how to best go about it, and the best I could come up with was, well, exactly the same.
So, here it is: the Garden of Shadows mirror forum.
I've only just started, but I hope to add a little bit to it every day. The primary focus will be on preserving all the knowledge and custom content. I'm tackling it myself, but if you feel so inclined, you're more than welcome to join in.

PS. I am not here to offend, break Terms of Use, or to step on any toes. This is simply an effort to preserve content and knowledge for a game I have played and loved for over twenty years. Thank you ♥
