Les Mis Shipping Showdown QUARTER FINALS: The Results!!!!

Phew! While not as chaotic as the Round of 16, we still saw some frantic last minute stealing action in this round.

Please remember that said last minute stealing is all perfectly within the bounds of the rules. People are allowed to post steals at any point in the submission period, and saving up steals to post after the exit polls if your ship looks to be in trouble is a perfectly legitimate way of playing the game. We received an anon at the end of the round on this topic that is NOT in keeping with the spirit of the Shipping Showdown. You know who you are. If you're reading this, don't do that again. Thanks!

Our first swing of the Quarter Finals - and of course it's Montparnasse doing some stealing. Very in character. Congrats to Jehanparnasse nation for pulling some excellent steals out of the bag over the past 48 hours. And farewell to Eposette, a beloved ship and (up till now) our highest remaining seed in the competition. The Giant Killing theme of the 2026 Shipping Showdown continues...

There's always one match up this round where I have to quadruple check my maths, and this was that battle for the Quarter Finals. Bahorel/Feuilly (I hear you're calling yourselves Riot World now?) nation put up a tremendous fight over the past 48 hours, and we received some very high scoring steals! But in the end Team Gyriel held strong with some last minute submissions of their own, and the two sides, as in our exit poll, pretty much matched each other steal for steal!

Okay I know I already made the Jonas Brothers "oh how the tables have turned" joke in the Exit Poll but I'm going to make it again here because this is FRYING ME. What a fickle bunch you are (affectionate). Enjolras/Marius absolutely wiped the floor with Enjoltaire last round, and this round they received a whopping two (2) steals and got completely obliterated by our late Easter miracle resurrected ship Fanplice. Absolutely hilarious. Marjolras, you'll be forever remembered for randomly destroying the most popular ship in Les Mis fandom history, and for introducing Labubus as a running gag in this tournament. Hospital Wives... well, I can't wait to see what's going to happen when you go up against Gyriel in the Semi-Finals. This is going to be the greatest Church-based battle since the other week at my organist job when I watched a guy have a go at another member of the congregation for sitting in his favourite pew at Mass.

Reading the brick part 2

I have more thoughts to share :) - Spoilers

I know the book is called Les Miserables, but I wasn't prepared for the level of miserable. It's like 10 times more miserable than the musical

Marius researching who his father was after he had passed was so beautiful and sad, I just want to give him a hug

Marius standing up for his father against his grandfather was amazing and I love him for it

Also fuck his grandfather

The line "There was in him a headstrong little man who hated Napoleon" made me cackle

I reached Book 4: The Friends of the A B C and the way I smiled so much my cheeks hurt, I know I will be a mess when I lose these boys

The introductions are perfection. You don't just learn who they are, but also understand why they are there and how their dynamic works with each other within the group

"Enjolras was a charming young man, who was capable of being terrible" is such a good line and so fitting for Enjolras. Immediately sets the tone for the rest of the story

"He did not seem as though he was aware there was on earth a thing called woman" oh he's going to be so oblivious to how Grantaire truly feels about him until the very end huh

Love that the first thing we find out about Bossuet is that he is bald 😂 They mentioned it twice, very important information

Grantaire’s introduction?? Oh my gosh?? I was not prepared. I thought the line "no one loves the light like the blind man" was made up by shippers, because I thought it so romantic I didn't think it was in the book "Grantaire admired, loved and venerated Enjolras" "That which we lack attracts us" "He had need of Enjolras" I could write down more sentences, but it would end up with me writing half of Grantaire’s introduction

He's obsessed, he's in love, he's down bad, that's all you need to know

But Enjolras is apparently repulsed by him so that's very sad :(

Reading the brick

Am reading the Les Miserables book for the first time, and I have thoughts, and I need to share them somewhere 😅

People are so mean to Cosette, and I feel so terrible for her. The Thénardiers are more comedic characters in the musical (although still terrible), but it surprised me how abusive they are

I love how Jean Valjean is with Cosette, their bond is my favourite (so far)

I skipped most of the Waterloo section

The whole thing with Jean Valjean being buried was really funny

I just got to Volume III Marius, and am very excited to meet the barricade boys
