I’ve watched humans destroy each other when I could stop it all in a heartbeat. Do you know what that does to someone after centuries? Could our mission have been a mistake? Are we really helping these people build a better world? We’re just like the soldiers down there: pawns to their leaders, blinded by loyalty.

I find it interesting that people used to tell Wyatt to take action packed roles cause he's a big guy but he didn't want to get stereotyped went for more softer roles with deep characterization. Wyatt really tries to give depths to his characters instead of playing one dimensional jock type dudebro. I think that's why he was hesitant about playing John cause people would stereotype him as jerk dudebro and John could have come out exactly like that if it wasn't for Wyatt. He gave emotional complexity to John, he did his research albeit being confused. I'm pretty sure the reason I love John is because Wyatt played him so beautifully. He made him a three dimensional character and breathed life into him. Marvel really hit Jackpot with this one.
I totally agree🔥

we don’t talk enough about how John and Lemar would put themselves in danger to protect each other
in episode 2, we see Lemar in trouble and calling for John
who puts himself in a vulnerable position in the middle of the fight to save Lemar,
thereby opening himself up to attack from Karli
and is nearly knocked off the edge of the truck, which could have killed him
and then in episode 4, when Lemar joins the fight after breaking free of his restraints, he sees that Karli is about to stab John
and willfully charges into the path of danger
and makes a very clear and willing decision to tackle Karli to save his friend
thus directing Karli’s rage towards himself in that moment, which ended with Karli actually killing him
these two are always willing to put their lives on the line to defend each other, Lemar protects John as much as John protects him, a true bond of battle brothers
I really need flashbacks with them!
I feel like we need to talk about how often John Walker does that fake “everything is totally cool and I’m so happy” smile when he’s out in public or interacting with anyone who isn’t his best friend or wife
and how much that looks like this meme
like seriously this man is just nervous and uncomfortable as hell with the publicity and public persona
I still see posts where John is attributed a variety of sins, come up with all sorts of nonsense (racist, sexist, homophobic 🤦🏻♀️where did they see all this) and other fantasies.
And who he really is, just the facts.
he's a loving husband💜
he's a loyal friend
He's really friendly
They expect him to be a doormat. Sam and Bucky could say anything to him and he'd just have to except it without protesting
That's why they can't stand him, cause he bites back too. He's not a wimp. That's why they make up those bs about him. Remember they also called Steve a Nazi after endgame.
I think a lot of the dislike for John Walker comes from the POV we’re seeing the show through, especially for those of us that never followed the Captain America comics very closely. We were here for Sam and Bucky, two men we’ve gotten to know and become fond of over the course of the MCU. Because of that, it’s natural to lean a bit more on their side when the animosity is kicked up due to an incredibly emotional situation of the government appointing a new Captain America as if there’s been a whole line of them at this point. There haven’t been. It’s just been Steve, and Steve himself wanted Sam to take up the mantel.
I don’t blame Bucky and Sam for being prickly with him, even if he may not have deserved the full force of it. All in all, Walker struck me as a good man that ended up making an equally emotional (and wrong) choice after his best friend was murdered. Saying that, just being a decent human being doesn’t make you a candidate for the super soldier serum. WWII was filled with good men who were physically qualified for the serum, but Erskine was looking for a very, very specific individual. That was Steve, and that was a high bar. Not reaching that high bar doesn’t automatically make you a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, or [insert negative attribute here]. It makes you human.
All that, I don’t really consider myself a Walker fan. I found myself aligning with the irritation Sam and Bucky felt, but that doesn’t make him evil incarnate either. He was, like every character that graced the screen, a complicated human being with a mixture of good and bad qualities trying to do what he thought was right.
As I told my roommate - I don’t think Walker’s a bad guy, in-universe, but I kinda wish he had been worse, given how he represents established power and how Cap has always subverted established power as soon as he finds corruption. I think a lot of people are angry with the John Walker they were expecting, and I’m still trying to decide whether it was a bad writing choice to give us this one instead.
the whole point is that he was never a negative character. It was only because of Sam and Bucky's childish attitude towards him that the audience felt they had to do the same, hence the confusion of many or the open anger at John. You just need to not give in to manipulation, and think with your own head.
where is the villain ?
He's been through the death of his best friend and lost everything, but he's still friendly with Sam and Bucky, and really wants to help and be useful.
