New update to the THE LAST COURT remake (demake?) is out. It fixes a few issues and adds some cool little features, hope you enjoy it!
You are the ruler of Serault, an eccentric fiefdom at the farthest ends of Orlais.
Colors of the Serault heraldy mentioned in this passage:
"Your guards draw their swords, a narrow line of Serault green-and-silver against the pressing tide. Your chevalier-commander spurs her horse forward. The sea turns. Parts. You follow her between the crush of faces, twisted as the gargoyles perching on the chantry, and up to the Chateau."
Today marks exactly 5 years since The Last Court was taken from us. To commemorate the occasion, I made an update to the remake. Hopefully it's the final one...
* Update 16 Added separate event descriptions in the Chronicle to ALL Happenstances. Tweaked and added new event descriptions for the Flames
MENR2: DATING TIME - Nearly get to fourth base (death)
To seduce Morinth, I first have to find her. She's attracted to violence, so I go around picking fights with people. One of the dancers is being harassed by a creepy turian who assumes she's sexually available just because of the stripper outfit. Not everyone who wears a stripper outfit is always down to fuck! Just me.
He says he'd be happy to show either of us a good time, which he does by allowing me to beat the shit out of him.
Then I see some people planning to mug someone, so I threaten them too. They aren't threatened, because they still get to wear their fancy armour whereas I'm only wearing a little dress. But I'm a cybernetically enhanced zombie girl, so I toss them to the floor.
Seeing that I'm an unhinged woman with a passion for hurting people coupled with a healthy respect for sex workers, Morinth is intrigued and flirts with me from the shadows.
We sit together, and I bring up the topic of art. She says it stirs something dark in her, but asks me my favourite art, which is whatever this baddie is interested in. The Elcor artist, Forta? Love him. Vaenia? That's like my favourite holovid.
She then says there are ways to...enhance...the experience of art. I tell her I used to do drugs back on Earth, but I don't anymore because my military dads don't let me do the good stuff, just combat stimulants. Unimpressed, she asks what else I've 'outgrown.' This is trouble - you can't bore Morinth for long or she'll "go to get drinks" and then never come back, just like my Earth parents.
Rallying all my bad girl points, I say the real question is not "what have I outgrown?" but "how have I gotten even worse?" My military career has given me all kinds of new depraved interests, including a fetish for telepathic women recently awakened when I needed to repeatedly have sex with my coworker to save the universe. It's a long story.
Morinth's interest perks up again - we are so fucking back! I then bring up "travel," saying dangerous places are my favourite because I get to be violent. She says violence is the purest expression of power. I say it's more a means to the end of power. The fact that I respond to her villain talk with this ridiculous nitpicking instead of running away like a sensible person fills out her love meter, and she invites me to her apartment.
Despite being overcome with lust, she politely offers me a chance to look around the place before we fuck, instead of letting me look around the morning after. This would be suspicious, except I already know she's going to murder me, so I take the time to ransack her apartment for loot. But she doesn't have anything, except...an assault rifle upgrade? FUCK YES. I love assault rifles. They're great at enacting violence, which is a means to the end of power! The only thing better than an assault rifle is an upgraded assault rifle. And she lets me keep it. Damn this date is going well.
There's other stuff there, but it just prompts dialogue instead of letting you take it, which is a shame because I really wanted that cool sword. She reminisces about that sword - she loves dueling, especially the part where you see in your opponent's eyes that you're better and he's going to die. You mean lose right?
Apparently she plays chess, too. She loves any game where your opponent can believe he is about to win...just before you kill him. You mean checkmate right? I grew up on the streets but I'm at least 60% sure that's not how chess works.
I see a sculpture of a krogan, made by one of her lovers. She tells me he was a bit boring, but made this to impress her so they could have sex. It...didn't end the way he hoped...
With Morinth having plied me with an assault rifle and telling me sinister anecdotes that imply she murdered a bunch of people, I'm turned on. She tells me I'm safe, but I know I'm not, and with all my bad girl points, I have the strength to say so.
She turns up the charm, talking about how we both prefer independence over submission, to which the default option is Yes, Morinth. Fortunately, I have enough bad girl points to resist her powers, telling her I'm out of her league. This isn't really true, Morinth is awesome, but being a bratty sub is better than having my nervous system fried.
Seeing that I'm such a bad girl, Morinth wants to punish me, but the punishment is sex, but the sex is murder. She makes slutty eyes at me by making them solid black. Oh my god. She's so evil. It's hot. But I reach deep down inside myself and recall Sha'ira's words of affirmation that I'm a very bad girl and my enemies are afraid of me. One last time, my will overcomes her.
Seeing that my force of will is too strong for a regular mark, Morinth realizes that she's been set up, just in time for Samara to T-pose her against a window. Samara is angry Morinth even calls her mother.
This sounds pretty harsh, but Samara doubles down, saying Morinth's kind is a disease to be purged, nothing more. This hits home, since my Earth parents abandoned me to live on the streets with the Tenth Street Reds. Are we the baddies?
Morinth begs for her life, saying she's every bit as strong as her mother and pledging to help. Samara reminds me that she's already sworn to me, so let me do a bit of filicide and let's save the world.
All three of us are vicious killers, but Morinth is a vicious killer like me. She understands me. She's happy to use that understanding to kill me, but in her defence, that's kind of hot. Samara says she's a monster, and maybe she is...but she never had a chance to be anything else. She deserves a chance to be a hero for once. I tell Samara I'm going out with her daughter. She's against the idea, but I manage to twist her arm.
Samara's last words are that I will regret my choice, not knowing that I've never had a regret in my life. Morinth blasts her away with a mass effect field, then finishes her off with a punch. I shield myself from the shower of blood, which is really just a single drop on my arm.
Morinth thanks me for saving her, saying her mother was as powerful as she was hateful as she was unfashionable. Unfortunately for her, she needs to lay low again, so she has to pretend she died, switching her cool bondage outfit with her mother's awful strawberry armour. This is moderately better than being slain by your own mother, so she rolls with it.
This is going to be fun.
I think this is the funniest thing I ever read all year.
New update out for the remake of THE LAST COURT. I just can't rest for two weeks straight and this damn game brings me back to it, please send help.

You may have already answered but I didn't see it mentioned in your pinned post, so I hope you don't mind;
What medium is this project? Are we talking CRPG, Indie-RPG Maker thing, or a whole different medium than video games entirely like TTRPG, Solo/Journaling game? I'm desperate to find out!
Also, this is an amazing project, much respect!
It's an IF (interactive fiction) game made in Twine! IF games are closer to a choose-your-own-adventure novel than a traditional video game, and they're not really RPGs or (solo) TTRPGs. There's a lot of reading involved, and they can vary on the amount of player input and intractability: some are almost straight-up novels while others have more videogame/RPG elements like dice rolls and skill stats. In the case of Small Fires, I'd describe it as a interactive DA fanfic with a linear story and a focus on companion relationships.
But now that we're on the subject, it's occurred to me that some of ya'll might not be familiar with IF as a genre based a few of the asks I've been getting. If you're not, I'd really encourage you to check some out! Itch.io is a good place to start. Not only are they really fun, but it'll also give you an idea on what you can expect with Small Fires. The last thing I want is for someone to end up disappointed because they had expectations that were never going to be met in the first place.
Here's some IF games I'd recommend checking out:
Wayfarer by @idrellegames: a popular IF game that was actually originally a DA fic! It combines story with more 'gamey' elements like skill stats in a really cool way. She also posts tips about coding in Twine.
The Last Court by @enriador: this is actually a Twine adaption of the original DA browser game published by Bioware, which got shut down in 2020. Also pretty video-gamey.
Trigaea by RynGM: a crazy good IF game that's a cross between a scifi novel and an RPG adventure game. Reminds me a lot of James Cameron's Avatar.
Stillwater by @cosmic-writes-if: a mind bending psychological horror story written in Choicescript, which is another IF programming tool. Mind the content warnings.
The Abyssal Song by @ri-writes-if: an interactive fantasy story with a heavy focus on friendship and romance. Only just started this one but I'm having fun so far! I'd say out of all of these, this one is closest to what you can expect Small Fires to feel like.
There's a ton more ofc, and you can find a lot of dev blogs here on Tumblr.

That's it folks, The Last Court 2.0 is out and alive. This should be the final version of the game, save for eventual bug/typo fixes.
Please, enjoy it and huge thanks to all of you who helped me spread the word about Serault these last few days. I am almost as indebted to you as I am to the Horned Knight!
