Fatima | 27 [Orion] | Engineer | TAKEN |Mindy Kaling
☆ Optimistic, Diligent, Amicable
★ Worrying, Over-trusting, Stubborn
Being an Orion in her prime is difficult, especially with Starfleet in mind. Computer games, fantasies, and a smidgen of accuracy paints the green-skinned race as sexually voracious airheads. Orion, in fact, see sex (and to some extent, love) as natural as drinking water. It’s said no human can resist an Orion woman’s dancing, and while the powerful pheromones play into the attraction, many of them would rather be treated like everyone else. Few have been successful because of the stereotypes holding them down. Fatima always intended to be one of the first.
She and most Starfleet Orion are often ex-slaves coming out of an uprising. In her case, she was separated from her sisters at thirteen, and rescued by a human family in San Francisco not long after. Although she was homeschooled at first, she devoured what she could learn, and attended high school. Although she was somewhat separated from her peers, she took it as an opportunity to focus on her studies and develop her passion for engineering and robotics, which she brought with her to the Academy.
It was a rough four years, due to anything from misunderstanding to harassment from her fellow cadets. Although Fatima has grown more jaded towards her fellow human officers, she’s still a brilliant engineer, and spent the past years serving aboard a handful of ships until she was assigned to the Enterprise.
Since Nyota Uhura’s ex-roommate was Orion, she understands their nature to some extent; because of that, she and Fatima sometimes spend time together. She respects her chief Montgomery Scott, but keeps her distance from most of the male crew; she and Ariel Debussy have bonded over this alone. Unlike Ariel, her distaste is merely discomfort; to make matters worse, she finds herself suffering hapless crushes on both Jabilo M’Benga and Joaquin Rayes.
